Audiobook results 2024

Since we are proceeding into 2025, let’s see how my audiobooks did in 2024!

First, here are my top ten bestselling audiobooks of 2024. It’s nice to note that audio, at least for me, was slightly up in 2024 over 2023.

1. The Ghosts: Omnibus One
2. Frostborn: The Gorgon Spirit
3. Frostborn: The Dark Warden
4. Frostborn: The Broken Mage
5. Frostborn: The World Gate
6. Frostborn: The False King
7. Frostborn: Excalibur
8. Frostborn: The Dwarven Prince
9. Dragonskull: Omnibus One
10. Frostborn: The High Lords

Next, let’s see how it broke down by vendor.

1. ACX (Audible, Amazon, Apple): 76.54%
2. Google Play: 9.84%
3. Storytel: 5.08%
4. Hoopla: 2.73%
5. Spotify: 2.27%
6. Chirp: 1.05%
7. Under 1%: Kobo, Scribd, Audiobooks.com, Overdrive, TuneIn, Bibliotheca, Nook, and Anyplay

So we can see that Audible is still pretty dominant, but there is growth on the other platforms, especially Google Play.

As always, thanks for listening and reading!

Question of the Week: Special DVD Features

It’s time for Question of the Week, which is intended to inspire enjoyable discussions of interesting subjects.

This week’s topic – do you watch the “Special Features” on the DVD? The “Making Of” and so forth.

The inspiration for this question was that I couldn’t think of anything else to watch so I was watching the Special Features on THE LORD OF THE RINGS EXTENDED ADDITIONS box set. I think those are really the gold standard for DVD special features. Not too many special features have middle-aged British literature professors discussing the origins of the book that inspired the movie!

SHIELD OF DECEPTION Table of Contents

I am finally far enough along with editing to share the Table of Contents for SHIELD OF DECEPTION, which you can see below!

If all goes well I hope the book will be out in early February.

What is it about? I suspect a quote from the previous book, SHIELD OF CONQUEST, will provide a preview:

Calliande hesitated. “The truth? This wasn’t a hard fight. Everything went well. Nothing went wrong…I’m afraid the hard fighting is still ahead. Rejoice in our victory today, yes…but you should still brace yourself for what is to come.”

Book Marketing Ask Me Anything

By amusing coincidence, several similar questions about book marketing landed in my inbox close together.

So, if you have a question about book marketing, leave it in the comments here or on social. If we get enough questions, I’ll do a blog post and a podcast episode with the answers.

Question of the Week: Italian Food

It’s time for Question of the Week, which is intended for enjoyable discussions of interesting topics!

This week’s question – what is your favorite kind of Italian food? No wrong answers, obviously, including not liking Italian food.

(Usual disclaimer about how “Italian food” as a definition is very broad.)

For myself, the answer would be pizza, which I think would be true of many people. But pizza is kind of a category all on its own. For non-pizza, I would say lasagna and spaghetti carbonara.
