updates on SEVENFOLD SWORD, CLOAK GAMES, and SILENT ORDER

Now that CLOAK GAMES: BLOOD CAST is out, here’s what I’m working on next.

First, I’m 59,300 words into SEVENFOLD SWORD: SHADOW. If all goes well that should be out in late March or early April.

The next CLOAK GAMES book will be called CLOAK GAMES: LAST JUDGE. I’m 13,600 words into the rough draft, and that should come out after SEVENFOLD SWORD: SHADOW.

I’m also 1,600 words into the eighth book of my Kindle Unlimited science fiction series, SILENT ORDER: IMAGE HAND. I’m not sure when that will come out, but it will be sometime after CLOAK GAMES: LAST JUDGE.

Thank you!

Tomorrow I want to start publishing CLOAK GAMES: BLOOD CAST to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, iTunes, Google Play, and Smashwords.

CLOAK GAMES: BLOOD CAST is going to be my 76th novel.

That means BLOOD CAST is the 9th novel about Nadia Moran. I’ve also written 10 books about Mazael Cravenlock, 19 about Ridmark Arban, and 20 about Caina Amalas (21 if you count BLADE OF THE GHOSTS).

How many other writers get to write that many books about their characters? Not many, that’s for sure. In fact, today I read several blog posts from traditionally published authors bemoaning the state of their writing careers in 2017.

I definitely could not say that about my 2017. So, thank you, all! Thanks for coming along on Ridmark’s and Mazael’s and Caina’s (and others) journeys. I only have as many books as I do because you keep reading them.

And more to come soon.

Interesting Links #14: Publishing Technology

The information technology revolution has changed all aspects of life, just as the industrial revolution and agricultural revolution did in centuries past. Publishing books is no different.

And boy was there a lot of change in the last two weeks! I think all of Amazon’s competitors woke up and realized that 1.) Amazon makes a river of money from ebooks and audiobooks, and 2.) they want some of that river for themselves!

-On Amazon, 28% of the top 1000 bestselling authors are indie writers: Author Earnings: January 2018 Report.

-But! When pursuing technological change, don’t alienate your constituency.

-Barnes & Noble is upgrading their self-publishing platform: Discover Barnes & Noble Press.

-I don’t want to get involved in cryptocurrency, but it is nonetheless fascinating to watch. Evidently there is a graphics card shortage because so many graphics cards are being used for crytocurrency mining: Here’s why you can’t buy a high-end graphics card at Best Buy.

-I complain about the Surface Pro 4: Surface Pro 4 Keyboard Firmware Problems.

-I do a guest post about writing SILENT ORDER: ECLIPSE HAND in Ubuntu Linux: Create Your Ebook For Free.

-Google Play now offers audiobooks: Audiobooks Arrive In The Play Store With Google Assistant Integration.

-Apple is redesigning the iBooks app: Apple to redesign iBooks app in efforts to accelerate its e-books business.

-Here are five suggestions for Apple’s redesign of its bookstore: Thoughts On Apple Books.

-Looks like you’ll be able to buy ebooks from Wal-Mart soon: Walmart and Rakuten partner on grocery delivery in Japan, Kobo e-books and audiobooks in U.S.

-I was unsurprised to learn that Facebook was designed by people who have no idea how humans actually function on a social level: The Secret History Of Facebook Depression.

paper books vs ebooks

I read a total of 83 books in 2017. 14 of them were paper books, but 69 of them were ebooks.

It’s interesting how much easier ebooks fit into your life if you’re a busy adult. The accepted social convention nowadays is that if you’re a busy adult, you need to keep your phone nearby when you’re out in public. And it’s a lot easier to carry a phone with you than a paperback book or especially a hardback book. You can read a couple of pages on your phone while in line at the post office. A lot harder to do that with a hardcover book!
