In What FROSTBORN Book Does Third First Get Mentioned?
Third is a popular character, because my website keeps getting searches for “which book does Third first appear” and related queries. So let’s answer that question here!
Third first appears in FROSTBORN: THE FALSE KING (the tenth book in the series) and is a recurring character in the rest of FROSTBORN. Later, she returns in SEVENFOLD SWORD: WARLORD and is a point-of-view character for the first time in SEVENFOLD SWORD: SHADOW.
The SHIELD KNIGHT novellas SHIELD KNIGHT: THIRD’S TALE and SHIELD KNIGHT: RIDMARK’S TALE contain accounts of her origin story from differing perspectives.

Interesting Links #18: Sherlock Holmes, the GIMP, and bad publishers
In this week’s Interesting Links, we talk about bad publishers, Sherlock Holmes and the Book of Proverbs, and the GIMP!
-“This indie author gig is great if you can find a niche that works for you and that you love to write. If so, who needs traditional publishing?” Six-Figure Backlist Write to Market Strategy.
-I do think writers need to train themselves not to rely on outside validation. “The amateur continuously rates himself in relation to others, becoming self-inflated if his fortunes rise, and desperately anxious if his star should fall. The amateur craves third-party validation.” Steven Pressfield, Turning Pro: Comparisonitis Or “Everyone Else Is Better Than Me”
-Publishers are, in general, bad, but romance publishers often behave the worst: Do Romance Authors Receive Worse Treatment from Publishers Than Anyone Else?
-Jeff Bezos’s annual letter to Amazon shareholders has many interesting insights into how the company operates: If you want to Sell More Books on Amazon, then you should probably read this…
-If you use Canva for graphic design, this is a useful post: How To Make Killer Promo Graphics In Canva.
-Speaking of graphic design, I have done a lot of my book covers in GIMP: GIMP 2.10 Is Finally Here!
-I prefer Android over iOS, but both have their strong points: An Android User’s Take on the iPhone.
-The Adventure Of The Speckled Band is my favorite Sherlock Holmes story, and this fascinating article discusses the influence the Book of Proverbs had on the story: The Proverbial Sherlock Holmes.
-Given how badly many publishers act, I cannot help but regard the decline of traditional publishing and the rise of indie as a good thing: Cultural Change And The Traditional Writer.

SILENT ORDER update
Today I’m doing a bit of work on SILENT ORDER: IMAGE HAND. If all goes well, I hope to have that book come out in the second half of June, about two weeks after CLOAK GAMES: SKY HAMMER.
Meanwhile, here’s a short excerpt from the book!

“What are you thinking?” Adelaide said with a smile. “I can hear you thinking, you know.”
Sometimes it seemed like she could. Certainly, she had a knack for guessing when his mood was starting to darken.
“Societies,” said March.
“Now that’s a depressing topic,” said Adelaide. “People are fine on our own, but put us together and we do some nasty things.”
“There’s a concise history of humanity,” said March.

demographics
I have to admit I have always wondered whether I have more male or more female readers.
Then I found that Facebook has this traffic analytics thing that will tell you the gender breakdown of page views.
So I went and looked, and I was highly amused to see that my Facebook page views were an exact 50/50 split between men and women.
Still, when it comes to reader demographics, I think of a quote from Quark on the DEEP SPACE NINE show:
“I have a dream – a dream that one day all people, Human, Jem’Hadar, Ferengi, Cardassians will stand together in peace… around my dabo tables.”
(“Dabo”, I think, is “Space Blackjack.”)
Now, replace “Space Blackjack tables” with “my books” and I understand his view.
SILENT ORDER: MASTER HAND now available on all platforms!
SILENT ORDER: MASTER HAND was originally only available on Amazon, but it’s now on all ebook stores!
You can get it at Amazon US, Amazon UK, Amazon Canada, Amazon Germany, Amazon Australia, Barnes & Noble, iTunes, Kobo, Google Play, and Smashwords.
The galaxy is at war, and the raids of pirates can bring empires crashing down.
When Jack March interrupts a raid of the brutal Agotanni Pirates, he soon realizes that the pirates have stolen an ancient superweapon of lethal power.
Unless they are stopped, the pirates will auction off the weapon to the highest bidder.
And whoever holds the weapon can slaughter billions at a whim…

FROSTBORN/DEMONSOULED crossover thoughts
Thanks for all the opinions on crossovers, both pro and con! It was interesting to hear so many different perspectives on it, including some I’d never considered before.
I’m not actively planning to do a crossover at the moment. But, then, I do have at least another 750,000 words of SEVENFOLD SWORD and probably as much of GHOST NIGHT to write before I decide what to do next, so I have some work to do first before deciding on my next series.
