Let’s Listen To FROSTBORN: THE DARK WARDEN!

Back in 2017, the first five FROSTBORN books came out in audio from March to June. Shortly after FROSTBORN: THE IRON TOWER came out in audio in June 2017, I received an email asking when the next FROSTBORN book was going to come out in audiobook.

This has been a common question ever since. Sometimes with robustly colorful profanity included!

SEVENFOLD SWORD: TOWER update

6 chapters down, 18 to go. 1/4 of the way through the rough draft! Hopefully I can pick up the pace a bit this week.

I should mention that SEVENFOLD SWORD: TOWER and GHOST IN THE TOWER have no connection whatsoever. No crossovers or anything like that. It’s just a coincidence. Originally, SEVENFOLD SWORD: TOWER and GHOST IN THE TOWER were supposed to come out several months apart, not right after each other in November and December, but then I decided to write CLOAK GAMES: MAGE FALL in July, which threw off the schedule.

It was worth it, because people really liked MAGE FALL and it sold a lot of copies, but now I have two similarly named novels coming out close together.

CHILD OF THE GHOSTS audiobook preview!

Apropos of my earlier post, Hollis McCarthy sent along the 1st fifteen minutes of CHILD OF THE GHOSTS as a preview!

So, what better way to kick off the weekend than by listening to the 1st fifteen minutes of CHILD OF THE GHOSTS? Listen below!

Let’s Listen To CHILD OF THE GHOSTS!

When I published GHOST IN THE AMULET earlier this week, a few people mentioned on Facebook that they re-read the entire GHOSTS/GHOST EXILE/GHOST NIGHT series in preparation (20 books!), and how much they enjoyed returning to CHILD OF THE GHOSTS.

That was a nice thing to say! As it happens, that was a very convenient lead-in to my next topic!

Now that the check has cleared (so to speak) I can mention this – CHILD OF THE GHOSTS will soon be available in audiobook format, as read by Hollis McCarthy.

It should be available soon-ish. I just have to finish listening to it and then approve it, and then it’s gotta grind through the ACX approval process. So if all goes well, it should be out by Thanksgiving, hopefully sooner. Fortunately, the “final approval listen” part is easy because Hollis McCarthy did an excellent job with the book. (You can listen to samples of her previous work on Audible.)

So, if you enjoyed 1.) CHILD OF THE GHOSTS, and 2.) audiobooks, you’re gonna love this. Be sure to sign up for my newsletter, since I’m going to give away some bonus stuff when the CHILD OF THE GHOSTS comes out in audiobook.

CONFESS!

I am pleased to report that I have started on SEVENFOLD SWORD: TOWER. If all goes well, I want to have it out sometime in November, though it might slip to December.

I’ve been looking forward to this one, because after eight SEVENFOLD SWORD books, we’re finally going to meet the Confessor, the current lord of Urd Maelwyn and the bearer of the Sword of Water. We’ll find out that while the Confessor isn’t quite as clever as he thinks he is, he is nonetheless much smarter than all his enemies (with the exception of Selene) assume him to be.

Because he’s got some nasty tricks up his sleeve.

We’ll also find out why he’s called the Confessor.

It’s really creepy.

Why write about Linux?

After I mentioned my new Linux book THE UBUNTU DESKTOP BEGINNER’S GUIDE: GNOME SHELL EDITION, long-time super-reader Bret commented:

“Linux help and documentation is extensively available and searchable on the web. It would’ve never even occurred to me to buy a such book. I don’t think I’ve bought a book for Linux or a programming language for decades at this point.”

Shortly after that, David Clinton (author of Linux In Action, available on October 7th) commented:

“This is actually exactly how I just came across your books for the first time: Manning recently published my Linux in Action and I was wondering how on earth your Ubuntu book made it to #2 on Amazon (I guess I just missed its moment at #1). At first, the fact that you didn’t seem to have physical books and your low pricing made me wonder if you weren’t one of those scammers who steals documentation from internet sites and quickly pastes it into shoddy eBooks. But a quick look at a page or two of your book tells me that you’re completely legit.

But that doesn’t explain how your book is ranked so much better than mine – despite the enormous production and marketing investment behind it. Whatever the back story is, I’m not jealous: you deserve it.”

Nah, if it was a scam, it would be in Kindle Unlimited!

#1 in Linux! Sort Of!

Today I have a funny story for you.

A long time ago, technical writing used to be my main focus, but these days it’s really more of a hobby. Over the past few months, I wrote a new book about Ubuntu Linux since the desktop environment changed from Unity to GNOME Shell, and I published it yesterday.

So far, the only copy it’s sold has been the copy I bought myself on Amazon US to check that all the formatting was working correctly.

But! That was apparently enough to make it the #1 New Release in Linux books.

I’m guessing there haven’t been too many new books about Linux published recently.

GHOST IN THE AMULET Table of Contents

I am far enough along in editing that I can share the Table of Contents for GHOST IN THE AMULET, which you can see below.

I am also far enough along that I think I’m confident, barring unexpected developments, that the book will be available in the first week of October.
