Question of the Week: Favorite Book?

It’s time for Question of the Week, which is intended to inspire enjoyable discussions of interesting topics!

This week’s question – what is your favorite Jonathan Moeller book?

The reason for this question is that I’m going to record my 250th podcast episode this week, so it seems like a good topic for the milestone.

For my own answer, the question is a bit difficult because I’ve written them all, which meant I thought all of them were a good idea at the time. I suppose the glib answer would be the one that made me the most money (FROSTBORN: THE IRON TOWER), but it really depends on the category. Like, my favorite heist book? My favorite dungeon crawl? My favorite first in series?

So I think I will split it up by male and female protagonists.

My favorite book of mine with a female protagonist would probably be CLOAK GAMES: REBEL FIST, since it’s such a turning point for Nadia and starts the trajectory of the rest of her character arc. It’s the first time she really has to save the day instead of just trying to save herself, and it shows that her brother Russell can also handle himself, which comes up again later.

My favorite book of mine with a male protagonist would probable be DRAGONTIARNA: DEFENDERS, since it has the battle of Shadow Crown Hill, which was one of my favorite sequences to write. Four different characters have plans, and they all crash into each other at the same time. It was fun to write and set up. 🙂

The Pulp Writer Show, Episode 249: Audiobook Sampler Platter, The Third Course!

In this week’s special spring episode, I share samples from four of my audiobooks.

Each audiobook is the third book in its series!

1.) Dragonskull: Blade of the Elves, narrated by Brad Wills.

2.) Cloak of Ashes, narrated by Hollis McCarthy.

3.) Half-Orc Paladin, narrated by Leanne Woodward.

4.) Ghost in the Blood, narrated by Hollis McCarthy.

(The next one is technically the 2nd in its series, but it wasn’t ready in time for the last Sampler Platter episode.)

5.) Stealth & Spells Online: Leveling, narrated by CJ McCallister.

You can listen to the show with transcript at the official Pulp Writer Show site, and you can also listen to it at SpotifyApple Podcasts Amazon Music, and Libsyn.

What’s up next?

Now that SHIELD OF BATTLE is out, what am I working on next?

My next main project is GHOST IN THE CORRUPTION, and I am 27,500 words into it. This will be the fifth book (of six) of the GHOST ARMOR series. Originally I intended to call it GHOST IN THE ASSASSINS, but I decided that was too similar to GHOST IN THE ASSEMBLY.

Also, when GHOST IN THE ASSEMBLY came out and I sent out my newsletter, naturally I used “GHOST IN THE ASSEMBLY now available” as the subject line for the email. Except, as many, many, many people pointed out, numerous email clients shorted that to “GHOST IN THE ASS-“. So that is the second reason I changed the name of GHOST IN THE ASSASSINS to GHOST IN THE CORRUPTION.

My secondary project is SHIELD OF POWER, the final book in THE SHIELD WAR series. I’m about 1,000 words into it, and when GHOST IN THE CORRUPTION is done, SHIELD OF POWER will switch to be my main project.

I’m also 83,000 words into STEALTH & SPELLS ONLINE: FINAL QUEST, the last book of STEALTH & SPELLS. In all honesty, I’m probably going to lose money on it, so I want to schedule it right after a book that will probably do well. So FINAL QUEST will be out sometime this summer.

In audiobook news, SHIELD OF DECEPTION (as excellently narrated by Brad Wills) is finished, and should be showing up on various audiobook stores before too much longer. Recording of GHOST IN THE ASSEMBLY (as excellently narrated by Hollis McCarthy) is underway.

For Nadia and Rivah books, I will get back to CLOAK MAGE and HALF-ELVEN THIEF after SHIELD WAR and GHOST ARMOR are done. Remember, I decided this year that I have too many unfinished series underway, and I wanted to focus up and get some of them done. Since I’m on the second-to-last book of GHOST ARMOR and the last book of THE SHIELD WAR, I think I’m making good progress on that front.

So that is what I am working on right now.

On a totally unrelated topic, I was very impressed by the OBLIVION remaster! I wasn’t expecting much. I really enjoyed OBLIVION back in the day. In fact, back in 2007, I spent several months saving up for a desktop PC that could run the game on anything above the Ultra Low graphic quality settings.

But the remaster is essentially the same game, but with a massive graphical upgrade and quite a few of the rough edges sanded off. Definitely worth trying if you enjoyed the original OBLIVION.
