And, dudes, show off your hair while you've still got it!
Finding a guy's sunglasses that got tossed into the crowd, landing at my feet, at the Modest Mouse concert. Aren't they a cute couple?

Baking...

World Cup Fever!

World Cup fever has struck my house--with both my husband and daughter getting up early in the morning to watch the games. Now, I've been to my share of soccer matches, but I'm usually related to one of the players. Last night I went to my first pro game: The Real Salt Lake vs. The New England Revolution. I loved it!

First, the people watching was spectacular, the stadium beautiful, the burritos delicious.

Pro soccer players, unlike 4th graders, pass that ball around in amazing ways which is...

Body Image Month

I'm really excited to be participating in Once Upon A Bookshelf's Body Image Month. If you've read My Big Nose And Other Natural Disasters, you already know how much I care about these issues. I try really, really hard to feel good about my own body (after years of hating my nose). But now I have daughters and I know that I have to be a good role model.
Popular teen radio stations in Utah regularly play ads for a liposuction company that promises to deliver the "body you've always wanted" in t...

Breaking Up with Saundra Mitchell

Today I'm excited to host Saundra Mitchell, author of Shadowed Summer (now in paperback). To win a copy of your own, please leave a comment. Here's Saundra:
I've always wanted to be a real drama queen, but I never worked up the nerve. Sure, I might think about throwing myself on somebody's casket, or standing up to be the one who speaks now at the wedding, instead of forever holding my peace. But the sheepish, shyish weight of my personality made sure those thoughts stayed in my head--or on...

My Own Relationship Advice

My husband and I are in San Francisco this weekend celebrating our 18th anniversary. He really wanted to see the Giants play, but knowing that I'm not a huge sports fan, he didn't want to go on our actual anniversary. I said, please buy the tickets.
After 18 years of marriage, I've learned that successful relationships aren't about manufactured romantic moments (or else all those couples who meet on the Bachelor would stay together). So here's my advice:
1. Laugh together every day. It's...

Relationship Advice from Holly Cupala

I think I'll always remember Holly's smile at the summer SCBWI conference when she found out that she'd sold her first novel--and I won't forget the gorgeous roses her husband sent her either. So today I'm especially happy to welcome Holly Cupala whose debut novel Tell Me A Secret just hit the shelves. My teen snatched up my copy and read it in one sitting, and I loved it too. If you'd like to win your own copy of this addictive read, please leave a comment. Here's Holly's relationship...
