In search of awesome

TourGraphic_Sullivan Today I was hoping to welcome author AshleyRose Sullivan to my blog. She's touring the internet with her novel, Lona Chang, and I'm eager to read it, having thoroughly enjoyed her earlier superhero novel Awesome Jones - find my review of Awesome Jones on Goodreads by clicking here.

But AshleyRose hasn't arrived...

AshleyRose...

Is there an author out there in need of help from the amazing Awesome Jones?

AshleyRose, if Awesome or Lona should find you, please drop by. I really was looking forw...

Should Children Love Books?

Today I'm delighted to welcome author Jennifer Chase to my blog. She's touring the internet with Pump-up-your-book... and with a Body of the Crime. But what body? What crime? And why? What leads a child to grow up and write a novel? Welcome to my blog Jennifer.

Obsessed with Books at an Early Age      By Jennifer Chase
Many of my early childhood memories involve all of the great books that I had the opportunity to read. I was a typical kid who loved to be outdoors whene...

Think you know where fictional characters come from?

EChrisGarrisonTourGraphic1 Today I'm delighted to welcome author E. Chris Garrison to my blog with her zanily scary Road Ghosts... thought actually, she seems to be meeting them at Heath's Brewpub downtown, so maybe you'll just have to leave your coffee on the table and follow me there. Here goes... Heading your way Chrissy... and I'm really looking forward to learning what inspired these amazing characters.

Any era, any location, any lifestyle... what would you choose?

Today I'm delighted to welcome Diana Forbes, author of Mistress Suffragette, to my blog. I've been reading quite a few books set in Victorian England recently, so it's intriguing to be given opportunity to meet an author who writes about women in the US. Please join us, draw up a chair, fill your mug with coffee, and read on...

My first question Diana, since you're writing about a very different America from the one I know, is this: if you could live in any era, any location, any lifestyle... w...

Is Length the only Difference between a Short Story and a Novel?

TourGraphic
Today I'm delighted to welcome author Carl R. Moore to my blog. He's touring the internet with his book, filled with the music of intoxicating, scary things. Pondering whether those many things were stories or novellas, I asked him what form of writing he prefers, and here's his answer.

Short Story, Novella, or Novelby Carl Moore
I think the novel is the form I love the most, and although Slash of Crimson and Other Tales is a collection and my first published paperback, with most of my wr...

How real is real?

I've just finished reading Subliminal by Leonard Mlodinow, and now I'm turned upside down. Are the decisions I make based on real analysis, or do they bubble up from a biased subconscious? Do I dream of being a writer because I'm any good, or just because I want to be one? Are any of the judgments I make about myself worthwhile, or are they all just a product of inner desires?

Ah, but then he points out that none of us would persist without our subconscious prodding and praising us. Great writ...

Why Can't She Stay?

Today I'm delighted to introduce Annette K. Larsen with an excerpt from her just-released new novel, If I Could Stay, and a great giveaway!

Hi Annette. Please would you introduce yourself and your book:

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: I was born in Utah, but migrated to Arizona, Missouri, and Virginia before settling in Idaho. Though I dabbled in writing throughout school, being an author seemed like an unattainable dream. It took me seven years to write my first book, Just Ella. During that time, I taught m...

When did you learn to love mythology?

I had just started high school. We had to borrow books from the school library, but there were rules. We had to borrow one fiction and one non-fiction book every week. And we were meant to read them.

Anyone who knows me knows I love to read. I read quickly, and I'd happily have borrowed way more than two books. But... one non-fiction book! Every week! No way! The trouble was, I really didn't enjoy reading non-fiction. Then I discovered the "mythology" shelf. I couldn't believe my good fortune....

Does Your World keep Spinning Round?

The library's tidy. The books can be found. And the world keeps spinning around. I'm enjoying the delight of a son's bedroom now repurposed as a home for all my books, and the benefits of last year's flood that engendered this repurposing. I'm still regretting the books I lost, and staring anxiously at bottom shelves, four inches above ground level, just hoping that will be enough if the worst comes to worst. But we have water detectors now. As long as we're home when the worst comes to worst...
