Yes, I am still here …

The Scream by Munch
… you can hear me breathing and no, not in a creepy phonecall kind of way.
Having returned from the whirlwind of Conflux in Canberra, barely escaping mummification by the hotel’s heating system (BTW: if you need somewhere to mummify a body, talk to me), I

THE YEAR’S BEST AUSTRALIAN FANTASY & HORROR 2012
The ToC for the latest YBAF&H (yes, you *should* sing that to the tune of “YMCA”) has been released into the community – on parole, really, with little chance of it respecting its good behaviour bond. With fiction from the likes of Margo Lanagan, Lisa L. Hannett, Alan Baxter, Kathleen Jennings,

Conflux 2013
So, the Conflux program is now live.
This is the NatCon for 2013, so probably the biggest gathering the tribe will see in Oz this year.
I’m doing a late night panel on Old and New Fairy Tales (with Lisa Hannett, Leife Shallcross and Jenny Blackford) on Thursday 24 April at 9pm,

The Night Stair

Dante Gabriel Rossetti
So, with “St Dymphna’s” in the bag for now, I’ve started on a new Bitterwood Bible story. Here is an extract from “The Night Stair”.
The Night Stair
The Steward is a tall man, entirely bald, gaunt in the face, yet rotund in the belly. His legs in

St Dymphna’s – Redux

John Singer Sargent, The Misses Vickers
So, “St Dymphna’s School for Poison Girls” has had a redrafting, which means the beginning is a bit more interesting than the version I posted a few weeks ago. It is also, at 15 112 words, the longest short story I’ve
