It’s Medieval Monday! We are featuring author’s choice this time around. Please follow along with the excerpt each week for your chance to win prizes and read exciting romances.
For this week, please help me welcome Jenna Jaxon! The continuing excerpt is from her novel, Betrayal.
Excerpt –
“I am going to kiss you, Alyse,” he whispered in her ear then sucked on her earlobe. She moaned and wriggled. “Do that a bit louder, sweet, and when I kiss you as I did the day we were betrothed, moan even louder in your throat. Can you do that?”
“Uhh,” came the loud, low, guttural cry.
Thomas seized her lips, pressing them open easily. He slipped his tongue inside the warm depths, and moaned along with her. Damn, but she was sweet. His groan deepened as his cock strained toward her, bumping into her hip insistently. Oh, but this would be true torture soon.
What her novel is about –
The worst betrayals come from within.
After a night of passion with her betrothed, Sir Geoffrey Longford, Lady Alyse de Courcy is eagerly looking forward to her wedding. But when Geoffrey is forced to marry another, a heartbroken and possibly pregnant Alyse finds herself in her own private hell. She must either gamble with her reputation or marry someone she does not love.
A reputed connoisseur of women, Thomas, Lord Braeton, has dallied with many ladies of King Edward’s court, although he has favored none. However, as Geoffrey’s best friend, Thomas has sworn to serve and protect Alyse, an oath now sorely tested when he agrees to marry her—in name only—to guard her reputation. Yet, as they grow closer, and Thomas discovers Alyse’s sweet but spirited nature, he comes to desire a marriage in truth.
Can he overcome her memory of Geoffrey, or is Thomas doomed to burn with passion for a woman he can never possess?

‘Does it have personal value?’ He reached for the blade instead, weighing it in one hand as he waited for his blood to cool again.
‘The dagger? No, it’s just a—’ She stopped mid-sentence, gaping in shock as he tossed it over the ramparts.
‘Now take off your headdress.’ He curled his fingers to stop himself from doing it. The urge to touch her seemed to be getting stronger every moment. ‘You need to signal your surrender.’
She nodded and took it off at once, waving the material like a flag at the soldiers below.

Marguerite stomped her foot. Katherine was afraid to see what disgusting objects went flying onto their clothes. “Would someone tell me just what is going on here? Riorden, you have much to explain. Who is this woman?”
Katherine gave him a small smile of understanding and watched him turn back to the woman he once proclaimed to love.
“I have been remiss in introductions it seems, although you hardly gave me the chance,” Riorden began. “Marguerite, may I present my wife. This is Katherine.”
“Wife?” she screamed.
“Aye, we wed at Berwyck over three fortnights ago.”
“But the king promised me that we would wed,” Marguerite pouted and began wringing her hands. “He gave me his word.”
“’Tis clear His Majesty spoke his intentions afore he was informed of my wedding, but that is of no consequence now,” Riorden said, and Katherine observed Marguerite’s face turn red with rage.
“Of no consequence?” Marguerite gasped.

Medieval Monday! Shadow of the Swan by Judith Sterling!
It’s Medieval Monday on Tuesday! Sorry for the delay in posting this week. The WordPress gremlins were actively disrupting my attempts. But I have them caged for now. So, without further ado, here is Medieval Monday!
Please follow along with the excerpt each week for your chance to win prizes and read exciting romances.
For this week, please help me welcome Judith Sterling! The continuing excerpt is from her novel, Shadow of the Swan!
Excerpt –
The lively fireplace greeted them as they entered the chamber. Already, the space was warmer than before. Two stools stood in front of the fire. A table lined one wall; above it hung another fine tapestry, whose threads wove the image of a swan on a secluded, tree-lined pond. Directly opposite sat the bed. Its canopy was suspended from the ceiling, and rich green curtains spilled down around the carved, wooden headboard and frame. The inner sanctum, with its turned-down linen and coverlets, waited in shadow.
She stared. A person could lose herself in a bed like that. And in eyes as infinite as her husband’s.

What her novel is about –
Lady Constance de Bret was determined to be a nun, until shadows from the past eclipsed her present. Marriage is the safest option, but she insists on a spiritual union, in which physical intimacy is forbidden. Not so easy with a bridegroom who wields unparalleled charm! But a long-buried secret could taint his affection and cloak her in shadow forever.
Back from the Crusades, Sir Robert le Donjon craves a home of his own and children to inherit it. From the moment he meets Constance, he feels a mysterious bond between them. When she’s threatened, he vows to protect her and agrees to the spiritual marriage, with the hope of one day persuading her to enjoy a “real” one. She captivates him but opens old wounds and challenges everything he thought he believed.
Two souls in need of healing. Two hearts destined to beat as one.

Excerpt –
The ruthless miscreants would not recognize her. They wouldn’t have given the young lass who’d escaped their brutality another thought. But she had thought of them.
Every day.
Every night.
She raked her teeth across her lip. De Seabrooke would journey to Edinburgh soon. She’d better come up with a plan quickly lest she lose her chance to destroy him. Perhaps she would seek the aid of Scottish rebels. It wasn’t the first time she’d considered searching for them, offering information in exchange for their help in removing the vermin.
Although her views didn’t exactly match the rebels’ beliefs, their cause could work to her advantage. They fought for Scotland’s freedom and would jump at any chance to thwart the king. Perhaps a mutual agreement could be reached to benefit them both.
The idea had merit. It would reduce the chance of getting caught.

Scottish lass Katherine Mackenzie Armstrong targets three of King Edward’s officers who brutally raped and murdered her mother. Disguised as one of Queen Margaret’s attendants, she sets a course to destroy the men.
The acts of treason both Drake and Katherine commit are punishable by death in The Tower of London but their determination pushes dangerous limits. Considered enemies, they use each other to gain vital information. Neither expect their overwhelming attraction to one another, the staggering emotions stirred. But the closer they become, the more they jeopardize their pledges of vengeance.
Will the weight of retaliation crush them, see them beheaded? Or will Katherine and Drake form an alliance and learn to live and love again?

Excerpt –
“Why so afraid?” he asked. His continued stroking of her arms only increased her discomfort. He glanced around the room. “It does not seem so bad.”
His flippant dismissal of her distress infuriated her. Was he so daft as to think she had forgotten the abuse he meted out? She had survived more in three days that most women suffered in a lifetime, had lived through the suffering and pain and come out stronger. Kenna was struck with the sudden realization that she was no longer the weakling he left broken and battered five years ago. His brutal treatment of her body, and her survival of it, had given her a strength she had not realized she possessed until perhaps this very moment.

Must she and the clan learn to endure his cruelty once more?

But when his father embroils both them in a deadly plot, can the couple find a way to prevent war between the clans?

“What do you want from me?”
Perhaps it was ridiculous, Ryen thought. Men never seemed to have a problem with taking what, or who, they wanted. Maybe I’m making it more complicated than it should be. He is my prisoner.
She raised a hand to touch his thick mane. Bryce pulled back instantly. Ryen wrapped her fingers tightly in his hair, leaning into his strong chest. “You fear my touch?” she wondered in a soft whisper.
“Loathe is more like it,” he said.
She could feel the lie through his leggings and smiled. “Your body betrays you.”
“Step away from me, witch,” he snarled.
Ryen stood on the tips of her toes and pressed her lips against his. At first they were immovable, but suddenly they parted and the hot passion he was trying to hide was released. His tongue slipped into her mouth, warring with hers.
