thread that can alter the tapestry of her life and heart.

“My goodness. It’s beautiful,” observed Gwen, leaning against him. “And look, they’ve

brought Meggie’s tapestry back inside the hall. The MacKays surely know how to celebrate.”

Within that moment, Patrick made a silent vow that one day he would see the same light

enter his home. His heart soared at the possibility. With ye by my side, Gwen, I shall give ye this

beauty.

“Why is there no fire in the giant hearth?” asked Gwen.

“’Tis a custom to wait for the procession of the druids to bring forth the Yule log and

light the first spark. I pray our ways do not offend ye.”

Medieval Monday! Cameron by Lane McFarland!

Laurel O'Donnell

Today, I’m featuring the talented Lane McFarland and her novel Cameron.

What’s it about?

Determined to band Scots together against English tyranny, Laird Robert Graham seals a

truce with his feuding neighbor, the MacDougalls. But after his brother is nearly killed in a

treacherous attack, Graham kidnaps the laird’s daughter in an act of revenge.

Cameron MacDougall has devoted her life to the healing arts. She’s long rebelled against her

father’s feuding ways, but when Robert Graham abducts her, she’s finds herself at the center

of the dispute between their families. She expects the anger she feels, not the simmering

attraction to the powerful warrior, or the love she develops for his clan.

Can she stop further violence between the clans with her escape? Or will she find her surrender leads to a lasting peace and her own heart’s desire?

Here’s the continuing excerpt from Cameron

He stood from the trestle table and patted Lachlan on the back. When he turned, his gaze

captured hers, and her pulse thumped wildly. He started toward her. His broad shoulders and

chest tapered to a lean waist and hips. His white shirt hung open exposing dark curls. Powerful

legs, encased in brown trews, fit snugly in his black boots. He limped, favoring his injured leg.

She realized she was staring, but she couldn’t seem to help herself. His shaggy hair hung

to his shoulders. Dark stubble lined his cheeks and strong jaw. His smoldering eyes made her

stomach flutter and her hands shake.

Medieval Monday! Daughter of the Overking by Ashley York!

Laurel O'Donnell

Today, I’m featuring the amazing Ashley York and her novel Daughter of the Overking.

What’s it about?

A mistaken identity. A gruesome murder. The uniting of two powerful clans.

Trained as a warrior…

Brighit of Clonascra is the only daughter of the fearsome overking, Sean, but despises the trappings and demands of womanhood. She’s far more comfortable training for battle than preparing a meal. Long held alliances require she set aside selfish dreams and take Darragh as her husband. The union intended to promote peace between the clans is interrupted by the shocking murder of a neighboring king and she quickly discovers there are far worse things than being wed.

Trained to be king…

Darragh of Drogheda has no wish to follow in the path of his father, Tadhg, but he is an obedient son and supports his father’s plans. His marriage to Brighit, however, will be no hardship at all since he finds her most intriguing especially when she fights him at every turn. A she-warrior indeed. Her persistent dismissal of him merely blows the fire aflame and sets him down the path to discovery of all her most tightly held secrets.

When she stands accused of the murder, can they finally come to an agreement that will give them each what they truly desire?

Here’s the continuing excerpt from Daughter of the Overking

That flash of a smile disappeared just as quickly, replaced by dread when Thomasina took her by the

shoulders to again turn her away. This time the ladies surrounded her in an impenetrable shield and moved ahead

of the crowd toward the castle. The look of irritation Darragh gave the priest had the older man raising his hands

and backing away in a show of surrender.

Darragh proceeded with the crowd of well-wishers, keeping his eye on the women ahead. When they reached

the great hall decorated for the festivities with leaves and wild flowers, he watched helplessly as the women

continued up the stairs at the far wall that led to the chambers above.

The ridiculousness of the situation grated on him, as did the ever-growing number of people Darragh did not

recognize, all offering best wishes and slaps on the back for a job well done. Job well done? He’d not even been

able to speak to Brighit, let alone see any job done.

Medieval Monday! For This Knight Only by Barbara Bettis

Laurel O'Donnell

Today, I’m featuring the very talented Barbara Bettis and her novel For This Knight Only.

What’s it about?

He’ll do anything for land, even marry her; she’ll do anything for her people, except marry him.

If only either had a choice. It’s a marriage only love can save.

Sir Roark will do anything to gain land, even beguile an unwilling lady into marriage. He knows

she’s much better off with a man to take control of her besieged castle, to say nothing of her

desirable person. But it isn’t long before he discovers that, although her eyes sparkle like

sunlight on sea waves, her stubbornness alone could have defeated Saladin.

Lady Alyss is determined to hold her family’s castle, protect her people, and preserve her

freedom— until her brother’s dying wish binds her to a stranger. Still, she’ll allow no rugged,

over-confident, appealing knight to usurp her authority, even if she must wed him. Especially

since he thinks a lady’s duties begin and end with directing servants. Alyss has a few surprises

for her new all-too-tempting lord.

But when a common enemy threatens everything, Roark and Alyss face a startling revelation.

Without love, neither land nor freedom matters.

Here’s the continuing excerpt from For This Knight Only

Alyss stood by the window, mouth tight, face flushed, eyes wide. “There was no need to

bully your way in. The door wasn’t barred.”

Roark clenched his teeth, and the cords in his neck tightened. He deserved the reprimand,

but he couldn’t allow the lady to keep the upper hand. He took one step, then another, toward

her. “I sent word for you to join me in the hall. You ignored me. Never again ignore my

summons.”

He almost winced. He never spoke so harshly to any woman. His mother would have

boxed his ears. And he didn’t want to be angry. He wanted to scoop her into his arms, to promise

he meant no harm. Only good. Only protection.

Only she refused to cooperate.

Medieval Monday! A Knight Before Christmas

Laurel O'Donnell

It’s time for Medieval Monday! Follow along every week to read the excerpt from A Knight Before Christmas at different author’s website and leave a comment at each site for your chance to win a $10 Amazon Gift Card!

I am featuring an excerpt from my medieval holiday novella, A Knight Before Christmas. What’s the story about?

Will the Yuletide bring a miracle or spell doom for their love?

Blamed by her father for her twin sister’s death on Christmas Eve, Lady Eve Chandos agrees to marry a man she does not love to please him and appease his years of wrath. Betrayed by his brother at an early age, Sir Gabriel Bedford decides it is time to make amends and attends his brother’s marriage, but he is unprepared for the beauty Lady Eve has grown into and the attraction that quickly sparks between them.

As Christmas approaches, can Eve and Gabriel find the happiness they seek, or will the secrets of their past doom them to remain apart forever?

Here’s the beginning of the excerpt

“And a beautiful angel appeared to Mary,” Eve said to the circle of wide-eyed children sitting on the stone floor before her. “The angel said to her, ‘do not be afraid’.”

“Was she afraid?” a small girl with dark brown hair asked.

“No. It was an angel of God. There was nothing to be afraid of.”

“Where you afraid when you saw the angel?” another child with freckles asked.

Caught off guard, Eve glanced over the small group of children collected before her. The children were silent, staring raptly at her, waiting for an answer. “I never saw an angel and even if I did, I would not be afraid,” she admitted honestly.

The children exploded with questions and talking. “I would have been afraid.” “Was the angel flying?” “Did she have wings?”

“Eve.” The voice boomed through the small room.

Eve saw her father standing in the doorway. She quickly stood, apologizing to the groaning children, and made her way to her father. He was a tall, battle hardened man. His dark hair was graying at the sides and his mustache was completely gray. “I’m sorry, Father,” she said softly. “I promised them a tale and –”

“You should not speak of the incident.”

Eve stuttered for a moment, knowing how he disliked when she spoke of it. “They asked. I couldn’t –”

“You fill their heads with fancy and the next thing you know they will all be out looking for angels.”

Eve bowed her head. “I’m sorry, Father.”

“They should be preparing for their station in life. Many of them will not survive winter if we do not have enough food.”

“We were granted fields full of healthy crops this year. We have more than enough food.”

He stopped and faced her. “You misunderstand. They are children from lesser families. You should not be wasting your time with them.”
