BIO REP EN INGLÉS
Miguel Repiso (Rep) is an Argentine artist and cartoonist. He is the author of more than thirty books, among them Bellas Artes, Buenos Aires Dibujada, Postales, Contratapas and 200 años de Peronismo. Rep has created nearly sixty popular characters and series. He has been publishing in the newspaper Página/12 from its very first issue and has also written for magazines and newspapers in various other countries, including Veintitrés in Argentina; Playboy in Mexico, La vanguardia and Orsai in Barcelona, Babelia and EL País in Madrid, El Telégrafo in Ecuador and El Tiempo and Soho in Colombia. He has had exhibitions in Argentina, and in Uruguay, Portugal, Germany, France, Spain, Sweden, Italy, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, and the United States. His work has been recognized with awards in Argentina, Spain, Japan, the United States, and Cuba. In 2008 he was named a Distinguished Cultural Figure by the City of Buenos Aires. Since 2003 he has painted some forty murals in hospitals, book fairs, universities, parks, cultural centers, and museums in Argentina, the United States, Spain, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Chile, Italy, France, Uruguay, Cuba, and Germany. That work includes Mural Treinta (2006); Mural sobre la Transición española (2008); Desconcierto sinfónico (2008) with Luis Felipe Noé, León Ferrari and Adolfo Nigro; Mural del Bicentenario (2010); a mural in the Argentine Pavilion at the Frankfurt Book Fair (2010) and in the Guadalajara Bookfair (2014) and in the Paris Bookfair (2014); Twelve, Human Rights (2012); and Faltan ellos (2012), . In 2011, following his illustration of a new edition of Don Quijote with 260 drawings (first edition 2005, Spanish edition 2009), he painted Murales de Hermanamiento as a tribute to Miguel de Cervantes when Alcalá de Henares (Spain) and Azul (Argentina) became sister cities. More recently he participated in the International Biennale of Architecture in Venice (2012), exploring Argentine architecture on eight canvases. In 2015 he completed 160 illustrations of a new edition of the Divine Comedy, with the first edition in 2015 and the second edition forthcoming in November 2015. A first version of Bellas Artes was exhibited at the Museum .of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires (MALBA) in 2004 (Bellas Artes: Rep & Repiso, curator Laura Batkis ), followed by many exhibitions in Spain, Uruguay, Sweden, and Argentina. In 2014, it was exhibited at the National Museum of Fine Arts (Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, MNBA), curated by Andrea Giunta (Atlas de Bellas Artes). Now the exhibit is traveling to the Argentine Consulate in New York and the Argentine Embassy in London.
