“What do you want?” I rasped. “Who are you?” “My only purpose right now is to make you feel better. I don’t like seeing you cry,” he answered hoarsely. “You’re not alone, Kate.” I was momentarily stunned that he knew my name.
Had this man been at the party going on at the mansion? I assumed he had been since he knew who I was. Who else would know my name? Other than old friends, nobody knew me here in Florida anymore. I shivered as his hands traveled up the material of my plain black dress and came to rest on my very average-sized breasts. I knew I shouldn’t be letting a stranger feel me up, but God, his touch was like magic. “You’re not wearing anything under this dress,” the voice said disapprovingly.
Okay, I kind of found it humorous that some unknown male didn’t like the fact that I wasn’t sporting a bra. “I don’t need to. It’s not like I have that much to hold up.”
Actually, I’d hesitated to shuck my bra when I’d gotten ready for the funeral services, but the dress had patches of lace at the shoulders, and I hadn’t had a black bra to wear under it. In the end, I’d taken it off.
It’s not like anybody would notice that I wasn’t wearing anything underneath.
Or so I’d thought…

Schwesternschülerin und Teilzeitkellnerin Kara Foster ist vom Glück verlassen, denn ihre ohnehin schon aussichtslose finanzielle Lage erfährt einen massiven Schlag, der sie garantiert obdachlos machen wird. Da kann nur noch ein Wunder helfen, und das naht von unbekannter, unwahrscheinlicher und überwältigender Seite. Milliardär Simon Hudson macht Kara ein Angebot, das sie unmöglich ablehnen kann. Andererseits macht es ihr Angst, ein solches Entgegenkommen von einem Mann anzunehmen, den sie nicht kennt. Wird der attraktive, aber dominante Milliardär wirklich die Lösung ihrer Probleme sein oder wird er letztendlich ihr Leben drastisch verkomplizieren und eine Bedrohung ihres seelischen Gleichgewichts werden?
Der zurückgezogen lebende Milliardär Simon Hudson vergräbt sich lieber hinter einem Rechner, um Computerspiele zu programmieren, als mit der Oberschicht zu verkehren, und er weiß genau, was er will ... bis er auf Kara Foster trifft. Irgendetwas an Kara berührt Simon auf eine Art und Weise, die er noch nie erlebt hat und zweifellos nicht mag. Mehr als ein Jahr wacht Simon über Kara, weigert sich jedoch hartnäckig, einzugestehen, auch sich selbst gegenüber, dass er nichts lieber möchte, als sie sein Eigen zu nennen. Doch als sich Kara in einer Situation befindet, die sehr wohl ihr Untergang sein könnte, schreitet Simon ein, um ihr zu helfen, und merkt nicht, dass er mit der Rettung Karas seine eigene Seele heilen kann.
