Viking Reading Challenge
WELCOME ABOARD!
Take to your bench, get a grip on an oar and ready yourself for a journey that will blow the froth off your mead and fill your mind’s sea chest with plunder! Together, we will take the sea road to strange lands, stand shoulder to shoulder in the shield wall, enjoy the fellowship of the brave and earn such glory that the gods themselves will grow envious. We will experience a time when men were men and honour was everything. At the end of each adventure – and if you are still standing – you will share your findings with your oarmates and those who have yet to come aboard.
Then, with the gods’ laughter yet ringing in our ears we shall set sail again…
I wrote the RAVEN saga because it is in my blood. I live with a burden; an overwhelming sense of the past that haunts me. The good news is that it’s this same fascination that makes me write historical novels. They are my portal to other times and places, and in the writing of them I find some measure of satisfaction – a draft of cool ale on a hot day. It’s the best I can do. What really thrills and inspires me is that it seems there are others who are willing to place their trust in my tales and join me on my adventures. To those of you who read my books I want to say a huge thank you! I’m very aware that yours are the imaginations that weave images of my simple words. Each and every one of you invests your own vision to make the stories work.
After all, unlike a movie, with a book the tale ‘looks’ different for each of you. In a way, you do most of the work!
But now, with the forthcoming release of Odin’s Wolves, the adventure draws to an end. This reading challenge is a way by which we can celebrate together and perhaps spread the RAVEN saga’s wings a little wider still. It is my honour to have you join us. I sincerely hope you enjoy reading the saga as much as I enjoyed writing it.
So…what are you waiting for? Put your shoulders into it or by Odin’s beard I’ll gut you and feed you to the fish.
