Alabama Angel

Here's a link to a story about Randy Owen, lead singer of the country music group Alabama.  I interviewed Randy for this article and was so impressed with what a fine person he is.  Randy gives credit to his junior high school principal for inspiring him to finish his education, and Randy himself has, in turn, inspired so many people with his music and good works.  He does a lot of wonderful things for the state of Alabama, from disaster relief to helping with educational efforts statewide.  But I'm sure his most important accomplishment is that they play one of his songs at every one of the Crimson Tide's home football games!  That's got to be as good as it gets!

JUMP in Hawaii

Shamefully exploiting K's beauty for my own advertising purposes!

This is my lovely friend, whom I shall refer to simply as "K," sporting her JUMP shirt in Hawaii.

Ebullient Helio Castroneves

I look dreadful in this pic, but it's the only one I have of me with Helio Castroneves!

Check out this month's Guideposts magazine for a story by Indy Car driver Helio Castroneves…as told to Ginger Rue!  Confession:  I am not a racing fan, but after this interview, I'm a big fan of Helio's.  He's amazingly fun to be around–maybe the friendliest, most positive person you could ever meet.  Dwight (see below) and I were just blown away with how much we liked Helio. I so appreciate his taking the time to chat with us and share his inspiring story about his family.  Thanks again to Chris Hagan of Fox News Indianapolis, who helped me score this interview!

Dwight, with Helio's car

Helio was on a tight schedule, and after he said goodbye to us, I realized I'd forgotten to get a pic of him with Dwight. Not wanting to take up any more of his time, I had Dwight stand in front of where Helio was talking with a member of his pit crew!

Windy day!

What Do Emma Stone and I Have in Common?

The September 2011 issue of Teen Vogue!

OK, so her pic is on the cover, and my name is a little byline on page 98…but still!  This magazine is always so well put-together–both the photography/art and the content.  I'm really thrilled to have this clip.  And it was a fascinating article to research; I interviewed some outstanding experts as well as some very intelligent young women.  You can read the article by clicking here.  Feel free to leave a comment, of course.  The editors are great and would love to hear from you.

I Heart Emily

A reader named Emily emailed me to tell me how much she enjoyed my books, so I sent her a JUMP t-shirt.  She returned the favor by sending me this cute pic!  Thanks, Emily, for making my day!

Soundtrack of High School

During my senior year of high school, I played my cassette tape (your what? what's that?) of Def Leppard's HYSTERIA until it broke.  So it was very cool to get to interview their drummer recently for a story for guideposts.org.  Rick Allen lost his arm in a car crash when he was 21, and now he works with wounded veterans to help them learn to cope with their injuries.  Pretty awesome.

Daisy Fuentes

Daisy Fuentes is on the May cover of Guideposts, telling about her mom's breast cancer and how that experience inspired her to work with the kids at St. Jude's.  We did the interview at the photo shoot, and when the hair stylist commented that she liked Daisy's sunglasses, Daisy took them off and gave them to her.  Wasn't that nice?
