RADIANCE - Part 4
Scrambling to get Part 4 of RADIANCE up last night. My spouse and children have exquisite timing for when it comes to multiple interruptions and small dramas that, for some reason, they think only I can solve.
For those who've kept up with this story, thanks for reading! It's been a lot of fun to write so far.

Free serial read - RADIANCE
My apologies to anyone trying to follow this blog. I'm one of those who consistently scrambles to keep up with social media. Something always falls off the radar. I'm trying to do better with updates - part of my 2014 New Years resolutions.
I am currently posting a serialized free read on the blog section of my website. It's a short story titled RADIANCE. Once it's complete, I'll put it up in its entirety (edited and polished by my awesome editors) on Amazon with a cover and possibly an interior illustration or two, if I can sweet-talk my artist into it. :)
I post chapters/sections of the story every Sunday evening. At the moment Parts One and Two are available. If you're interested in reading, please stop by for a visit:

Best regards,
Grace

The Dark of Noon and other stuff
I just finished Lady Macbeth by Susan Fraser King. I enjoyed it. Her Gruach was an interesting amalgamation of brash young girl with mature young woman well aware of her value as a political pawn in the game of kings. The use of the name Rue was a bit of a stretch but didn't distract me from the story. I found Dunnett's depiction of Gruoch more subtle and more powerful, but King's version is still impressive.
My favorite part of the book was the exploration into the Celtic ideals of Dark Age Scotland and the complexities of tanistry.
I'd recommend Lady Macbeth to anyone wanting another, more sympathetic viewpoint on this mysterious historical figure beyond the tortured, manipulative creature as portrayed in Shakespeare's play.
The Dark of Noon - a short story
A friend once asked me how I came up with book ideas. The stuff comes from all over the place. A piece of music, a cool sounding title, a documentary on TV. Anything.
My latest work which I'm scheduling to go up by the end of this month (unless something craters in the formatting--gawd, I hate Kindle uploads with the hatred of a thousand fiery suns) is a short story called The Dark of Noon. I got the idea for it from watching a documentary about the Ajanta Caves in India. I encourage anyone with even a smidgen of interest in ancient history to check out articles about Ajanta. It really is amazing.
While my story has nothing to do with these particular caves, they were the spin-off for all the ideas I tied to it - a gold mine of inspiration.
The blurb:
The dark of noon falls on haunted Anjanra, City of the Silent. The mercenary Sula will bring her wounded lover here in a desperate bid to save his life. Gods don't always answer prayers, but they sometimes make bargains, and Sula will trade anything for her beloved's deliverance--even her freedom and the right to die.
A tale of love and sacrifice.
This will also go onthe thing that's eating my brain my website once it finally goes live (hopefully next week).

An introduction
I've been a silent member of GR since 2009 but haven't participated in the community until now. A reader, KarlynP, showed me I was missing out on some great stuff by not jumping into the fray.
So a quick introduction. I'm Grace Draven. I'm currently published with Amber Quill Press and am self publishing both new stuff and a couple of backlist stories in which rights reverted back to me.
I love gamma heroes and antiheroes as well as fantasy romance best of all. I started out writing in the fan fiction arena. Good preparation for writing original work and understanding the nature of reviews. And it's just fun.
I'm twitchy about cover art and can discuss it all day long if provoked.
I'm as fascinated by the production of a book as I am the writing of one.
My editors bust my chops, and I adore them for it.
I'm currently working to get a bona fide website up (I've been lazy and relying on a neglected blog) which lists what's currently out and what's coming up in my book list. I hope to have that up and running in the next week.
Best to all,
Grace
