Teen Bubbler: Showcasing Art Made by Young Adults

One of the most documented programs on the LAIP is the Bubbler at Madison Public Library. We not only have a personal investment in the maker and creativity programming (Laura, Holly, and Erinn have all worked for Madison Public Library at some point in our careers!); we also view the multifaceted, partnership-based program as an inspiration for other libraries who are looking to get away from the focus on a permanent makerspace and instead embrace maker programming anywhere, at any time, for...

Book to Boogie: “Jonathan and His Mommy”

Book to Boogie is a monthly series that pairs picture books with dance and movement activities for preschool story time. The series is curated by Kerry Aradhya of Picture Books & Pirouettes and written by a different guest writer each month. We hope that children’s librarians, as well as classroom teachers and dance educators, will find these activities useful and fun!

By Jill Randall

Jonathan and His Mommy, by Irene Smalls and Michael Hays, is a sweet and comforting story of a mother and her...

Featuring: Chris Perry

Chris Perry’s extraordinary book art was what made us reach out, but his nuanced articulation of how he interacts with books–and his marvelous concept for an experiential library of artistic techniques– is equally fascinating. Enjoy! ~Erinn

PAGES TO PROJECTS: Color Tamer Face Drawing

In a place where colors ran wild, there lived a girl who was wilder still. Her name was Swatch, and she was a color tamer. She was small, but she was not afraid.

Swatch The Girl Who Loved Color + Face Painting Fun

by Rebecca Dunn

Open Swatch: The Girl Who Loved Color by Julia Denos (public library) and experience a stampede of color. Young Swatch is a collector. Like most kids who are passionate about collecting, they try the best they can to accumulate as much of their desired object as possible. But unlike most kids, Swatch collects colors....

Featuring: Hannah Brown

We love book arts here at the Incubator, including the subtle work of bookbinders, whose art interacts with the content of the book itself. Today, Hannah Brown, an independent bookbinder in the UK, shares her work, her artistic process, and a vision fora lending library of bookbinding tools that is a brilliant take on the library-as-incubator! Enjoy– Erinn

Wild Stainless by Winona Barton-Ballentine at Mid-Manhattan Library

Today’s feature is another wonderful site-specific exhibition that was on at the Mid-Manhattan Library in NYC recently. Curator and Art Librarian Arezoo Moseni introduces us to artist Winona Barton-Ballentine, followed by an interview between the artist and Alessandro Teoldi, a writer for Paper Journal.

I met Winona Barton-Ballentinea few years ago when she and a group of first year MFA students came to the Art Collection for an orientation session. Afterwards I was informed by Deirdre Donohu...

Engaging Student Stakeholders with Google Cardboard at Pearsall Library: Phase One

1

by Ian Boucher

Google Cardboard is a quick and cheap technology to implement in a library, and its implications are just as fascinating. We at North Carolina Wesleyan College’s Pearsall Library ushered in 2016 with a Google Cardboard demo space, reinforcing to our students the part they can play in personally assessing the value of a new tool for their academic community through their library.

This nifty technology is a fusion of a cardboard headset and a wide range of apps—many of which are...
