Elijah fell through the portal and slammed into something cold and hard.Air exploded from his chest, leaving his lungs sucking in nothing. He was pretty sure the entire St. Margaret's defensive line just smashed into him—either that or a freight train. Where was he?He coughed and managed to lurch to his hands and knees. He'd landed in a snowdrift. Enormous mountains reared around him, trees wearing the mantle of winter.  One second he was standing on the roof of Gray Cliffs. The next he was...Somewhere far away. "Headmaster Auster?" he called. If you're out there, I solemnly swear I shall never call you the Grauster again. "Headmistress Lalane?"Nothing. Maybe he was concussed from the fall? Or maybe he was dreaming? His fingers were freezing, and he was starting to shiver, but he still pinched his forearm, just to make sure. Ouch. Not dreaming. Elijah could see little more than the stark line of mountains around him, wearing their snowy cloaks. His breath steamed in the crisp air as he slowly lowered the phone and caught a flash of something moving out of the corner of his eye.Elijah froze, his gaze darting over the landscape. Nothing moved. Just a slow veil of snowflakes drifting through the air, like some sort of winter wonderland. But something hadcaught his attention, hadn't it?What if he wasn't alone? The man stared back. That was definitely a spear, though the point of it looked like it was carved crudely out of black glass...or maybe obsidian. What was going on here? For a second he thought his girlfriend, Zoe, was playing a trick on him. She was obsessed with Live Action Role Playing, and spent the last weekend—presumably—on one of her LARP quests. Had she coerced some of her new friends into paying him back for the not-so-kind comments he made about her gaming? She dumped him over those stupid words, so it was a possibility. Except for one small fact: Zoe had nothing to do with the scene on the roof and the storm plucking him up and sending him spinning into this snowy plane.And Zoe wasn't mean."Who are you?" the stranger demanded.Another man waded through the snow behind him, clad in what looked like polar bear fur. "Elijah Davies," he said. "Elijor of House Davies?""No. Eli-jah," he emphasized. "Of Vancouver." No sign of recognition flared in the man's coal-black eyes.He was starting to shake from the cold and the aftereffects of adrenaline, but he didn't know what to think. Because these guys looked like Lord of the Rings wannabes. And despite the spear, they wouldn't hurt him, would they? There still had to be police here, didn't there?"Do you know where I am?" He lifted his phone. "You can call my mom or my school if you want, and speak to them as soon as I get service—"The man with the spear whirled and brought it down upon Elijah's hand. 25 years of Anita Blake!
How many series have that kind of staying power?  Not many that I've seen.
I confess I haven't been a fan the entire time. I didn't discover Anita's world until I stumbled on a copy of Cerulean Sins at my local library about 12-13 years ago. I brought it home and fell instantly in love. I ordered every book in the series and started from the beginning. So I read 12-13 of the books back to back, one after another...talk about being immersed in a world. 
Wow. 
And the changes in Anita over the years- she goes from being very sexually uptight and seeing the world in black and white to loving all the sex and seeing that the world is full of shades of gray.
Sometimes it has been hard to keep track of her lovers, of who is who and how they are connected to her (I need a chart, I bet a fan has made one, if they haven't someone needs to LOL) but I'll go back figure it and then jump back into the story if necessary.
I really love the books featuring Edward/Ted. Her relationship with Edward is very unique. He's one man that has never been her lover and probably never will be but they have something solid, real, and incredibly beautiful. A true friendship.
Serpentine focuses on that relationship, in all of its weird glory. Anita, Micah, Nathaniel, and a few of her bodyguards are in the Florida keys on vacation for Edward's wedding.
It should be relaxing, but Micah has a case he's dealing with there, a unique breed of shifter no one has any information about. Snakes. A very creepy case of shifting that is beyond problematic for the family.
Nathaniel is unhappy because for Micah and Anita everything is work. Work, work, work. He wants fun in the sun, like normal couples.
Resentful feelings, mistrust and casual flirting all become sinister as unseen forces play with people's emotions turning loved ones against each other and friends into enemies.
This vacation isn't relaxing at all. Things go from bad to worse when women start disappearing, then showing up dead. Then one of the wedding party disappears and the local police have their eye on Nathaniel as a suspect.
To make matters even more tense, Olaf shows up. Anita is already stressed and now she has to worry about a crazy killer who happens to have a crush on her.
Will the wedding go on as planned? Will they even make it out of this island paradise alive? Things aren't looking good.
A deliciously dark roller coaster of sinister and sexy drama that will keep you turning the pages. Your stomach will tremble and clench with every twist and turn. Murder, mayhem, love, and fear. It's all there on the page for your reading enjoyment.

The metallic squeal in the distance indicated the train was arriving. A light in the tunnel swept across the concrete wall as it rounded a curve and the brakes continued to shriek. People began to crowd the yellow line, jostling for position, trying to determine where the doors would open so they could leap on and get a seat, a premium on the Metro.By now the train was visible, moving at a rate that didn’t seem normal. His experience with the Washington Metro was limited, but the tube in London would have been slowing by now.Awareness flowed through the air, and there was a shift in the commuters as they began to understand that something wasn’t right. Ian released Maya and shoved her behind him. People scattered as the train started screaming into the station at too high a speed. “Bugger all,” Ian said and reached out with his talent. Without warning, Maya was yanked from behind him and hurtled toward the moving train before he could halt her. He split his mind, one focusing on the subway cars and one on her. People were flowing around her, one or two pausing to try and help the woman jerking past them. Maya careered forward, out of their grasp. Sparks lit the tracks as the wheels lifted off the rails, the engineer no doubt applying the brakes in an effort to make the cars stop.Ian’s talent blazed through him, starting in his belly and moving up his body. Energy drained from him but all that mattered was Maya, safe. The train doors opened, and frightened passengers disembarked rapidly. The tourists had wide eyes and open mouths while the regulars seemed more sanguine. They were used to the vagaries of the subway and to them it was nothing more than a bad stop. A very bad stop, to be sure, but just a random day on the Washington Metro.“Ian?” Maya asked, and he tasted the acrid, metallic scent of fear. It had been a long time since anyone had mattered.“What did you sense? Anything?”“I . . . it was so brief. Someone surfaced and before I could react to his mind—it felt like a he— I was being shoved forward. I reached out and tried to stop him, but I didn’t know how. The oath on Ian’s lips was savage. “I don’t know who it was, but they won’t get away with this. Blast. Yin was right. You’re in danger.”
About the Author:

Claire can’t remember a time when writing wasn’t part of her life. Growing up, she used to write stories with her friends. As a teenager she started reading fantasy and science fiction, but her diet quickly changed to romance and happily-ever-after’s.
A native of Massachusetts and cold weather, she left all that behind to move to the sun and fun of California, but has always lived no more than twenty miles from the ocean.
In college she studied acting with a minor in creative writing. In hindsight she should have flipped course studies. Before she was published, she sold books on eBay and discovered some of her favorite authors by sampling the goods, which was the perfect solution. Claire has many book-irons in the fire, most notably her urban fantasy series, The Elementals’ Challenge series, but writes contemporary and shifter romances as well as.
While she’s not a movie mogul or actor, she does work in the film industry with her office firmly situated in the 90210 district of Hollywood. Prone to breaking into song, she is quick on her feet and just as quick with snappy dialogue. In addition to writing she enjoys animal rescue, reading, and movies. This special tour package offers authors individual tours combined with the cross promotion of an overall Halloween event, a group Rafflecopter, and a group facebook party. 

Yes, each author receives their own Halloween themed tour during Bewitching Book Tours’ Haunted Halloween Spooktacular from September 17- October 31.

Each participating author will receive:

This is Bewitching Book Tours third annual Halloween Spooktacular. 
To participate you’ll need to provide details for one book you wish to promote including a high resolution jpeg of your cover and an excerpt. 

You’ll also need to provide a Halloween theme guest blog (which can be recipes, music playlists, costume ideas or DIY tutorial, etc- anything Halloween related), short Halloween flash fiction story, or a Halloween poem. (you may submit 2-3 of these items)

For the Facebook Party you’ll need quizzes, games and a few small prizes for your author party block (ebooks, $5 gift cards, etc).

The fee for this promotion is $100 per author for one book. If you wish to promote additional books each additional book is $50.

Wild Hunger Book One Heirs of Chicagoland Series by Chloe Neill

I was so sad when The Chicagoland Vampires Series ended with Blade Bound. Saying goodbye to Ethan and Merit was hard.  This series is in my top ten favorites of all time.
But now the next generation is here, their daughter, Elisa, in the spin off series Heirs of Chicagoland. I have this is my must read stack, I hope I can get to it soon.
