We entered a conference room where a bunch of pictures had been laid out for me to inspect. At least I assumed they were for me, otherwise why else would I be here? I leaned over and started perusing the selections.            “Can I get you anything before we get started? We have a soda machine, water or if you’d prefer I could make you a cup of what serves as coffee around here.”            I smiled, “Tempting offer Detective but seeing as how I come from a generation that has been spoiled by Starbucks I think I’ll have to pass on your imitation coffee. I would, however, accept your offer of a non-alcoholic bubbly.”            He smirked, “And what can I get you?            “What are my options?”            “We carry Coke products.”            I held my hand over my heart with feigned disappointment “You’re killing me! I’m a total Pepsi girl!”            He tried looking contrite. It really didn’t work for him. He was too smolderingly sexy, “I could run out and get you a Pepsi.”            I dropped down into the closet chair and waved my hand in the air, “Nah, Coke’s fine but I think I should warn you Detective that I’m not always this easy.”                       He walked over to the door and stopped before leaving. Looking over his shoulder, he gave me the hottest look I’ve ever seen, “I should hope not.”My eyes rounded in shock as I watched him disappear through the door. If I wasn’t mistaken I would swear the good Detective had just flirted with me. I mean, I know I’m new at this and all but come on – that couldn’t be any more blatant unless he tattooed it across my ass.            The question now becomes, do I flirt back or pretend it didn’t happen?             The good Catholic girl in me says to behave and pretend it didn’t happen, I do have my sweet Larry at home after all. But, the devil on my shoulder says what’s the harm in a little casual flirting? It’s not like I’m going to go home with the good Detective and screw his brains out. Oh, decisions, decisions.            I looked up as the man in question walked back in with soda in hand. He placed it down in front of me, “Let me know if you get hungry and we can break for some food.”            I popped open the soda and took a sip, “Do you always entice the ladies with canned soda, take out and mug shots?” Ok, the flirting won out.            He stared at me across the table with those dark soulful eyes, his lip twitched into a sly smile before he replied, “Always.”            I took another sip before placing the can of soda down on the table, “You might wanna work on your strategy Detective. I’m not sure mug shots are the way to go.”            He nodded thoughtfully and leaned back in his chair, “Got it. Mug shots are out from this point forward but what about the canned soda and take out?”            I smiled, “Depends on the takeout.”

Charlie Daye began writing at the tender age of thirteen. With an obsession for romance, happy endings and the supernatural she delves into your greatest fantasies and worst nightmares. She will have you laughing, crying, falling in love and getting angry. She will always give you a HEA but getting there is the journey worth taking.
Charlie Daye was born in Lynwood, California. Her greatest passions are music and writing. Her first short story was written at the age of thirteen. At the time her entire class was asked to write a short story for Halloween as part of a homework assignment. Most of the kids in the class wrote one to two page stories... Charlie wrote eight. The short story titled The Haunted House went on to win her district wide awards and was published locally. From their she began writing poetry as means of expression.
Since her writing career began she's has published several titles... The House, The Colonial, The Reservation, The Portrait, The Gypsy's Dance, Mistaken for a Call Girl, Her Last Request and Breeders. Four of which have been nominated for the RONE Award.

There was a loud banging on the door behind them. Everyone turned sharply to look at it. Zev waved his hand and for a moment the banging stopped, only to renew with more gusto. He stood and strolled over to the door, purple flames curling around his hands like vines.‘Wait,’ said Tamiel. ‘It’s the Irin.’‘They have no authority in Blood and Bone, Tamiel,’ said Zev before yanking open the door and glaring at the loud intruders. ‘What?’In the doorway stood three very intimidating angels, one male and two females. The Watchers wore black trousers and boots, but no other clothes. Their chests were covered in armour and each had multiple weapons. But it was their wings Octavia stared at, only then understanding the extent of what had been done to Tamiel. Angel wings were stunning. There was nothing birdlike about them. They were nearly reptilian. Sinewy. Feathers like satin and metal, bone like armour made from earth. Weapons and transport, beautiful and deadly. Two of the angels had grey wings, one had white. They were also enormous. A chill went down Octavia’s spine. Zev closed the door behind them, his eyes flashing irritably at this intrusion. Octavia got the feeling that they were only getting as far as they were because he wanted to see exactly what it was they would do, not because he couldn’t make them leave. He seemed to have a good deal of power and she hoped he was on their side.‘Tamiel, you are to come with us,’ said one. ‘You have broken the law.’ Octavia, Caleb and Jack all moved closer to Tamiel. It wasn’t like they could actually do much if the angels decided to take him, but there was strength in solidarity, and Octavia felt more courageous with them beside her. At least they were all equally as screwed. Tamiel regarded the three angels with a look of disappointment. ‘I didn’t think it would take you nearly so long, Hamon.’ The angel nearest them sneered. ‘How’s life without wings?’ Tamiel bristled. ‘I hope you never know.’ ‘Come with us,’ said the second angel. ‘It’s better to go quietly, Tam.’ ‘I thought you were better than this, Peliel,’ said Tamiel softly. ‘Aren’t we friends?’ Peliel looked away, jaw clenched. Hamon, on the other hand, seemed to delight in being there. ‘Take him,’ he said to Peliel and the other. Before they could move, Zev’s eyes flashed, and the very air seemed to shudder. Everyone looked at him. ‘Blood and Bone is a haven for all species from all worlds, from all planes, Watchers, and best you remember it,’ he snapped. ‘Tamiel is under my protection and I will remove you all if you annoy me further.’ ‘Take down the wards, Zev,’ said Hamon. ‘You are interfering in business not of your understanding.’‘Oh,’ mocked Zev, ‘do demons not understand angel business? You do not have authority here. This is my home and I am the law. Blood and Bone is a sanctuary.’ Hamon’s hand shot out, but if he expected that to do anything he was sorely disappointed. He looked at Zev as if he would enjoy nothing more than ripping his spine out through his chest. ‘Remove the wards, filth.’Zev looked at him with unmasked scorn. ‘I am far older than you, Watcher. Don’t test me. I have signatures in blood from your betters which will see you sent back to Parid if you choose to ignore their truce.’ Octavia and Caleb exchanged looks of impressed approval. She wondered what it must be like to have that sort of confidence in one’s own abilities and powers. It didn’t seem like Hamon particularly cared. He raised his sword.Tamiel held up his hands. ‘There are humans amongst us – we must all remember that.’The third angel said, ‘Then best leave with us and avoid bloodshed.’It was impressive how little fear Tamiel showed. His glare ought to have levelled her. ‘I’m going nowhere, Sorush.’ ‘Then you leave us no choice,’ said Hamon. ‘No one will miss one Healer who’s broken the law.’ ‘There are three humans here!’ ‘The ends justify the means, Tamiel. That is our law. You have broken our most sacred!’ Zev’s hands shot out, the tattoos on his fingers shimmering purple before returning to black.

Dexter kept his eyes closed.  The binds at his wrist were cold, unforgiving and rigid chains. He needed to stay calm, take it all in and wait until they’d left him alone. His shirt was loose, and his sleeve covered one of the chains on his wrist while the other was rolled high on his shoulder.  “Doctor Rutherford said to hold him until they come to take him,” a woman who adjusted his head on the pillow mentioned.  “How long has he been like that?” a male asked.  Dexter remained stone still, keeping his breathing even as his eyelid nearly twitched from the man’s breath near his face. He felt the lift of his eyelid. Keeping his eyes still, while the man flashed a light into them was nearly impossible. Dexter forced himself not to focus, but noted the man’s dark skin and brown eyes. He could have sworn the guy winked at him. Still, Dexter didn’t trust it, he didn’t budge. The man let Dexter’s eyelid go. Dexter almost sighed. It was hard to not blink. He had to wait though, for that one chance to get out.  “The others he came with will be taken also. Don’t get in the way of those that come to collect. If you do…” the woman warned.  Dexter forced his fist not to clinch at the mention of his family that was in the car crash with him. He remembered when they sunk into the water. He’d fought to get the door opened and his younger siblings out. Then something hit his head, and he’d drowned in water when everything went black.  “Like you, I just work here for the paycheck. This hospital needs to be condemned anyway. I was there when they bought them in from the emergency room. I wanted to see how he was doing myself. I swear he wasn’t breathing when they pumped his stomach of water from the lake.”  “Nathan, just give him the shot and clear out, you don’t want to be here when they take them. It’s never pleasant. I like you. You’re new here, and if you want to keep your job, you will stop asking questions.”  “Got it.”  Dexter heard footsteps. Light, and sure, it was the female nurse. Nathan remained there though, still, but the heaviness of his presence was over Dexter.  “I can’t help you much, but if you have it in you, get the hell out of here. The hospital is going up in flames. Your father and oldest sister, are on this floor, the others... Sorry we couldn’t help all of you.”
  Dexter didn’t trust it. He remained still as the chains on his feet were removed.
