Cher on Russia
With so many disillusioning things happening in PA this week regarding same sex marriage, when I read this piece about Cher turning down an invitation to perform at the Russian Olympics I had to admit that it felt nice to see that some people are still willing to challenge unfair laws...on principle, not black and white laws. She also clearly knows hate from personal experience.
“I can’t name names but my friend called who is a big oligarch over there, and asked me if...

Free Weekend Excerpt: Small Town Romance Writer
I just submitted the ms for Small Town Romance Writer to the publisher and while it's all still fresh I thought I'd post another raw, unpublished version here. This book ran over 113,000 words by the time I sent it off, and so far I haven't heard any screams from the publisher. The average e-book romance novel runs about 60,000 words, and I'm usually contracted to only write 50,000 words. I thought this book needed more depth, and I couldn't...

The Passive Voice: Blog Tours Waste of Time?
You know how I'm always saying that every author has different experiences. Well this is a good example of that. There's a post at The Passive Voice Blog today where author, Elene Sallinger, talks about how blog tours (I've always known them as blog hops, so that's how I'll refer to them from now on in this post.) haven't worked out very well for her. She also talks about how she's been disappointed with a PR firm she hired. This is one experie...

Judge Rules Against PA Clerk and Gay Marriage Licenses
Judge Rules Against PA Clerk and Gay Marriage Licenses
In a follow up to previous posts about PA Montgomery County clerk, Bruce Hanes, Judge Dan Pellegrini has ordered Hanes to stop issuing gay marriage licenses. This is no surprise.
A Pennsylvania judge is stopping a suburban Philadelphia court clerk from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, saying it was a clear violation of his legal authority.
Commonwealth court judge Dan Pellegrini on Thursday issued an order that said the M...

Trans Man Has Baby
A transgender man in Germany has given birth, and it's started an uproar. It's interesting to see how little so many know about transgender lifestyles, or what being a transgender is all about.
Though the Berlin man welcomed his child to the world in March, news of the remarkable birth did not make headlines in German media until this week. Now, the new parent is in court petitioning for the right to be called the baby's father , Germany's The Local reports.

Jeff Baker Psychic
I have to shamelessly admit that I have always been a strong believer in anything spiritual...or of a metaphysical nature like this. In fact, I have been going to mediums and psychics (for lack of better words) for many years and I've found some that blew me away. I don't go on a regular basis; just when I feel the need to learn something that I can't learn any other way. At various times, when the psychic is good and the energy is just right, I've even contacted o...

9/11 Hero Stories; Garden of Reflection Bucks County, PA
Every year I post something about the September 11, 2001 attacks, and so I won't repeat myself this year I decided to link to a few unusual stories of heroism some people may or may not know. That day changed the world. There was life before 9/11 and life after 9/11, and many things were never the same again.
This article talks about the unrecognized heroism of a young man, Salman Hamdani, who was found with his medical kit at Groun...

Author Focus: David Russell; eXtasy Books
Sometimes I like to post about authors I've read before and love. In this case it's David Russell, and he has two projects I think look interesting. I haven't read either of them yet, but I have posted about things of his I've enjoyed before, here. His books are sexy, emotional, and always tasteful. I find that I like his voice most of all. He writes in an intimate way that draws the reader into the story quietly.

Small Town Romance Writer: The 113,000 Word Version
This is one of those posts I do every now and then when I'm getting ready to submit a book to the publisher. It helps me see what the book description looks like in print, it helps me check out the first few pages, and readers tell me they like reading these things.
This particular book is the final novel in the eight book series I've been working on for the last year for Ravenous Romance. And this time, with this final book, for so...

White Writers Get Away With It
Before I get into this, I think the title should be more like "White Straight Writers Get Away With It." But the focus of the article is how white writers seem to get a free pass when it comes to writing about minorities, and yet minority writers don't have the same freedom to write about the same topics. In this case, Asian American author, Bill Cheng, wrote a novel about rural black Mississippi and you should see how the readers have received it. Not what I wo...
