Collin Reviews:
Ready Player One by Ernest Clive
A world at stake.
A quest for the ultimate prize.
Are you ready?
It’s the year 2044, and the real world is an ugly place.
Like most of humanity, Wade Watts escapes his grim surroundings by spending his waking hours jacked into the OASIS, a sprawling virtual utopia that lets you be anything you want to be, a place where you can live and play and fall in love on any of ten thousand planets.
And like most of humanity, Wade dreams of being the one to discover the ultimate lottery ticket that lies concealed within this virtual world. For somewhere inside this giant networked playground, OASIS creator James Halliday has hidden a series of fiendish puzzles that will yield massive fortune—and remarkable power—to whoever can unlock them.
For years, millions have struggled fruitlessly to attain this prize, knowing only that Halliday’s riddles are based in the pop culture he loved—that of the late twentieth century. And for years, millions have found in this quest another means of escape, retreating into happy, obsessive study of Halliday’s icons. Like many of his contemporaries, Wade is as comfortable debating the finer points of John Hughes’s oeuvre, playing Pac-Man, or reciting Devo lyrics as he is scrounging power to run his OASIS rig.
And then Wade stumbles upon the first puzzle.
Suddenly the whole world is watching, and thousands of competitors join the hunt—among them certain powerful players who are willing to commit very real murder to beat Wade to this prize. Now the only way for Wade to survive and preserve everything he knows is to win. But to do so, he may have to leave behind his oh-so-perfect virtual existence and face up to life—and love—in the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.
At once wildly original and stuffed with irresistible nostalgia, Ready Player One is a spectacularly genre-busting, ambitious, and charming debut—part quest novel, part love story, and part virtual space opera set in a universe where spell-slinging mages battle giant Japanese robots, entire planets are inspired by Blade Runner, and flying DeLoreans achieve light speed.

Featured Author on the Collin Earl YA Twitter List – The Call of the Hearld by Brian Rathbone.

Its time for another book from the Collin Earl Twitter List – This is one I’ve personally read from an author I personally know. Read. You’ll dig. Then go to his site and listen because he is crazy smart. Enjoy.
Collin
DESCRIPTION – Book One of The Dawning of Power trilogy. Echoes of the ancients’ power are distant memories, tattered and faded by the passage of eons, but that is about to change. A new dawn has arrived. Latent abilities, harbored in mankind’s deepest fibers, wait to be unleashed. Ancient evils awaken, and old fears ignite the fires of war.
AMAZON RATING 4 stars
MOST HELPFUL REVIEW – The Dawning of Power – another great fantasy! By Linda Weaver Clarke
Legend says that a Herald will be born who will save the land of Godfist from invaders. This Herald will fight for their freedom. To some it is only a legend but to others it is a prophecy, waiting to be fulfilled. The Zjhon are ancient enemies and are planning an attack but no one takes heed of these warnings until it is too late. Now it is up to the Herald to save them. The question is… will the Herald realize her destiny in time to save Godfist?
But that’s not all…the Zjhon believe in the prophecy and have given the order to search for the Herald and do away with her. This is an intriguing fantasy and is hard to put down. The description of scenery is so well written that I could imagine it in my mind. The characters are believable and well developed. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The Dawning of Power is a trilogy, which includes Call of the Herald, Inherited Danger, and Dragon Ore. I would recommend this book for all ages.
My Thoughts: I love classic Tolken fantasy and Rathbone has a way with words in these books. Nothing ground breaking, but wonderful classic fantasy that is executed well. What more can you ask for?
Brian is not only an awesome author but wicked good at this ebook/online marketing stuff. My advice. Listen to what he has to say. @brianrathbone** –

Collin Earl Romance Writer List Feature – The Ruby Brooch by Katherine Logan

The First Featured Author from the Collin Earl Romance Twitter List Enjoy:)
DESCRIPTIONS: And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. ~Anaïs Nin
Can a 21st century paramedic find her heart’s desire on the other side of time?
From the white-plank fenced pastures of Lexington, Kentucky, to the beautiful Bay of San Francisco, The Ruby Brooch, a saga steeped in family tradition and mystery, follows a young woman’s journey as she searches for the truth on the other side of the heather-scented mist.
As the lone survivor of a car crash that killed her parents, paramedic Kit MacKlenna makes a startling discovery that further alters her life. A faded letter and a well-worn journal reveal that she was abandoned as a baby and the only clues to her identity are a blood-splattered shawl, a locket that bears a portrait of a nineteenth-century man, and a Celtic brooch with mystical powers.
After studying the journal, she decides to continue her father’s twenty-year search for her identity and solve her birth parents’ murders. For safety reasons, she adopts the persona of the Widow MacKlenna. Although a perfect cover for her eccentric behavior, she will be forced to lie and MacKlennas don’t lie, or so she thought. Finally, dressed and packed, she utters the incantation inscribed on the ancient stone and is swept back to Independence, Missouri, in the year 1852.
Upon arriving in the past, she meets Cullen Montgomery, an egotistical Scotsman with a penchant for seducing widows. The San Francisco-bound lawyer happens to resemble the ghost who has haunted Kit since childhood. She quickly finds the Bach-humming, Shakespeare-quoting man to be over-bearing and his intolerance for liars threatens her quest.
If she can survive his accusations and resist his tempting embrace for seventy-three days, she might be able to find the answers she seeks, and return home to a new life without changing history or leaving her heart on the other side of time.

MOST HELPFUL REVIEW:
Fantastic New Voice in the Romance Genre! By Girls *Heart* Books
The Ruby Brooch is the first book in the Celtic Brooch Trilogy by Katherine Lowry Logan. When I was contacted by the author to read this book, I was instantly excited. It combines several of my favorite things; historical romance, time travel and a stubborn woman. I could not wait to read it. From modern day Kentucky to 1852 Independence, Missouri, this book brings you on a woman’s journey through time that defies all the odds.
Kit, our main character is such a strong and determined woman, you can’t help but love her as she tries to learn the truth about her parentage. Her loyalty and bravery are other traits that I really admired. She doesn’t know how not to help people in need. I loved watching her story unfold. All the characters were vibrant and complex; no cardboard cut outs here. Cullen, Kit’s love interest, is beyond swoon-worthy; he quotes Shakespeare, hums Bach and is overprotective in a non-control freak way. I adore him.
This was a fast read for me, probably because I couldn’t put my kindle down. Instead I was carrying it from room to room so I could see what would happen next. It’s fast paced, sweet and sad at times. I felt like I was on an emotional rollercoaster as I read. Laughing one moment and crying the next. It’s an incredible story rich with detail. I could picture the wagon train in my mind so easily from the author’s descriptions. The story is told from the third person perspective which I really love because you get to get inside all the characters’ heads and see what makes them tick.
Amazing characters and great storytelling make this a real page turner. The Ruby Brooch is one of the best books I’ve read this year; it’s a fantastically original and moving book that will make you believe in true love and soul mates. This book was breathtaking from beginning to end. A poignant tale of loss and love and hope. I cannot wait for the next installment! I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good romance.
My Thoughts – Romance is not really my cup of tea my wife seems to be digging it.

Collin Earl’s YA Twitter List Feature – Dark Still: A Novel of Magic Most Foul by Leanna Renee Hieber
Today’s featured Author from the Ya Twitter List
Enjoy
DESCRIPTION: A lush gothic tale that begs for reading…I couldn’t put it down.” —New York Times bestselling author Sarah Maclean
I was obssessed.
It was as if he called to me, demanding I reach out and touch the brushstrokes of color swirled onto the canvas. It was the most exquisite portrait I’d ever seen—everything about Lord Denbury was unbelievable…utterly breathtaking and eerily lifelike.
There was a reason for that. Because despite what everyone said, Denbury never had committed suicide. He was alive. Trapped within his golden frame.
I’ve crossed over into his world within the painting, and I’ve seen what dreams haunt him. They haunt me too. He and I are inextricably linked—bound together to watch the darkness seeping through the gas-lit cobblestone strets of Manhattan. And unless I can free him soon, things will only get Darker Still.
Amazon Rating: 4 Stars
Most Helpful Review: Review from Esther’s Ever After – Okay, first of all, I don’t think anyone can deny that this cover isn’t drop-dead gorgeous. Plus, after reading such a promising description featuring so many allusions to classical literature, I was dying to read this book. DYING. I love mystical magi cand the supernatural set in a Victorian setting; there’s something so dreamy and thrilling about it, don’t you think? And Darker Still lives up to these promises to deliver a captiving gothic horror story.
Reasons to Read:
1.A Victorian Mystery:
Natalie likes to play detective; that is, she’s only playing until she finds herself caught up in something very real, and very frightening. And she’s such the perfect character to play this role, and she was so interesting all on her own. She was nothing like I expected (and I mean this in a good way), because she really stands out among YA female protaganists. Yet all of this is wrapped up nicely in a lovely Victorian setting, filled with magic…
2.Hauntingly creepy:
I mentioned magic: well, a lot of it is dark magic. And some parts were so twisted, that they send shivers up your body. I kind of wish this book had been released earlier because it is an ideal haunted Halloween read…
3.Delicious scandal:
Of course, I wouldn’t mind being haunted if Lord Denbury was doing the haunting… and he definitely doesn’t mind breaking a few society rules for the era! There’s just something about a bona fide gentlemen that gets me all giddy.
Now, I do wish we had gotten to know Lord Denbury a bit more intimately (his character, I mean). And the romance does seem to progress awfully quickly, not quite insta!love, but just bordering on it. But at the same time, I can understand why it would build up suddenly, as both characters recognize something special and unique in each other.
Darker Still is written as diary entires, and I wasn’t particularly taken with this. I’m not a fan of books written as diaries or journals, unless there’s a reason important to the plot for it. And I didn’t see that it was for Darker Still.
BUT I still ended up loving and thoroughly enjoying this book! The characters are delightful, ESPECIALLY Natalie, and I was pleased to have a satisfying ending for one book, with the perfect lead-in to the next one (which I cannot wait for, already. 2012 cannot come soon enough, I mean it doesn’t even have a title and I’m anxious for it)! I just want to gush and rave about how beautiful, yet creepy, this book was but I can’t because I would HATE to give anything away! Anything at all.

Collin Earl’s YA Twitter List Feature – The Emperor’s Edge by Lindsey Buroker
Today’s featured Author from the Ya Twitter List
Description: Imperial law enforcer Amaranthe Lokdon is good at her job: she can deter thieves and pacify thugs, if not with a blade, then by toppling an eight-foot pile of coffee canisters onto their heads. But when ravaged bodies show up on the waterfront, an arson covers up human sacrifices, and a powerful business coalition plots to kill the emperor, she feels a tad overwhelmed.
Worse, Sicarius, the empire’s most notorious assassin, is in town. He’s tied in with the chaos somehow, but Amaranthe would be a fool to cross his path. Unfortunately, her superiors order her to hunt him down. Either they have an unprecedented belief in her skills… or someone wants her dead.
The Emperor’s Edge is approximately 105,000 words.
