Party Like It's 1999
The first week of May is a week of holidays. First you have May Day, on May 1, in which we celebrate…planes crashing, I think. I've never been sure on that one. I don't think May 2 and May 3 are anything special, but then you have Star Wars Day on May 4 ("May the fourth be with you") (My son was really upset to learn that Star Wars Day was just "people making fun of jedis"). May 5 is Cinco de Mayo, which is a big deal in the US, but which nobody in Mexico actually cares about; it's like if a ...

My Trip to England, part 2
It should be noted that my publisher's building is just a few blocks away from Baker's Street, where I took the following picture:
I always imagined his house a little...wider.
Yes, I know that the odd numbers are all on the other side of the street, so I was facing the wrong direction. But the other side of the street contains not only a very new building, but a very empty new building. Nothing relevant to the address or its history whatsoever. There's a museum, but it's around the corner...

How Big is Your Game Group?
I'll talk more about England tomorrow; today I'm thinking about games, and specifically about game scalability.
As I've mentioned before, I am a big raging game geek, who loves playing games of all kinds (mostly boardgames, but I'll play anything). I have a good group of friends who are also game players, and we get together as often as we can, but here's the catch–the size of the group is variable from day to day depending on who can come. Some of our favorite games play great with X number ...

My Trip to England, part 1
Hey, remember like a month ago when I wrote about my trip to Germany, and I said I'd write about the rest of my European tour later? Well, now it's later.
I flew from Leipzig to Paris, and then Paris to London, on March 20. It was raining the entire time, over (as far as I could tell) the ntirety of Europe, though we were above the clouds for most of it and everything was sunny. I don't have a picture, because my camera was in my checked luggage, but on the way to Paris I saw one of the...

The Whitney Awards, and the power of Horror
As I said yesterday, I recently won an award. Specifically, I won the Whitney Award for Best New Author of 2009, which is an award for LDS authors–not for LDS fiction, but for fiction of any kind that happens to be written by LDS people. A lot of people don't know that the LDS community has a very large, very healthy publishing market, covering everything from Romance to Thrillers; there are also a ton of "mainstream" authors who are LDS, including people like Tracy Hickman, Brandon...

Yes, I intend to start blogging again.
Wow, it has been a loooong time. In my defense, I am lazy and easily distracted. Speaking of which….
Just kidding. Seriously, though, I have a lot of stuff to write. I was blogging every day before my tour started, and I think I've only blogged twice in the last six weeks. I WILL get back to the every day schedule, starting today, but if the first few posts aren't the photo-laden retrospectives of my trip to England, don't kill me.
The good news is, things are going awesome. Since last we...

The US tour begins!
In just a few minutes I leave for Seattle, commencing my 11-day tour of the West Coast for the US launch of I Am Not a Serial Killer. Things have gone really well so far, and I'm very excited for the tour. I'm trying to arrange a couple of extra authors to sit in on a few of the signings, so watch my twitter feed for news on that.
For full info on the tour, check out the calendar in the left sidebar. If I'm signing anywhere near you, please drop by and say hi!
