Special Honor and Remembrance – True Hero, Col Fred Cherry (1928-2016)

Fred Cherry

Colonel Fred V. Cherry USAF (Ret)

This morning, we remember Colonel Fred V. Cherry who flew west this morning, February 16, 2016. Colonel Cherry was a Prisoner of War in North Vietnam from October 1965 to February 1973, and was awarded the Air Force Cross for his heroism as a POW.

He was a great friend, a true hero, and an inspiration to us all. For gallantry in resisting the enemy in the POW camps, he was awarded the Air Force Cross, second only to the Congressional Medal of Honor. We will miss him.

Thank you joining me in honoring his memory –

Leadership Consultant, Peter Chatel

Here’s a great checklist on how to get better results by changing your thinking from friend and consultant, Peter Chatel –

“Thoughts lead to actions and actions to results. So, if you want to change your results, then change your thoughts! Try starting with these ten thought starters”:

Think Big-Picture – look for the wholeness of the situation
Think Focus – reduce your distractions
Think Creative – combine your experiences for a fresh perspective
Think realistic –real versus what is wished for
Think strategic – direction, organization, finances, plan
Think reflective – slow down to speed up
Think unique – find the outliers where new insights reside
Think sharing – two heads are better than one
Think possibility – improbable doesn’t mean impossible
Think generosity – what good am I doing today?

On This Day in Leadership History, February 14, 2016

On this day in leadership history in 2005, the video-sharing website YouTube was activated. The service was created by three former PayPal employees in February 2005. In November 2006, it was bought by Google for US$1.65 billion.

What’s the leadership lesson? They created the platform to solve a problem of video-sharing with friends. What problems are you solving in your work? And how can you personally contribute to new solutions? Pay attention, and be creative!

During this weekend of celebrating love, we’d like to share our love for the Gary Sinise Foundation. Founded by actor, philanthropist, and friend, Gary Sinise, it honors our defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need. They do this by creating and supporting unique programs designed to entertain, educate, inspire, strengthen, and build communities. Lee Ellis and Leading with Honor supports this worthwhile cause—

Advice on Getting Your Dreams to Become a Strategic Reality

goalHere’s quick leadership advice on getting your dreams to become a reality. We like Randy Samelson’s latest book, “Breakthrough: Unleashing the Power of a Proven Plan” because it’s simple, six-step planning model.

Samelson says that “most dreams get stuck along the way to becoming reality. ‘Stuck’ is where dreams go to die.” To get unstuck, he asks leaders to discover a 3,000-year-old template “to help you break through the barriers that will inevitably confront you.”

He believes a credible plan includes three elements:

It is written.
It is measurable.
It is responsive to the unexpected.

Check it out and let us know what you think –

On This Day in Leadership History, February 7, 2016

On this day in leadership history, the E6B computer celebrates 75 Years of flight. Every pilot and navigator trained in the air force for more than 50 years had to be proficient in using this simple device, and it was so fast, tangible, visual, accurate, and easy to learn and simple to use with many different applications that they needed for flight planning.

What’s the leadership lesson? Your great ideas and inventions can contribute and go beyond your expectations in helping and influencing others. Be inventive, be creative, and always be teachable as you grow as a leader!
