Capital Public Radio - Insight
Back in December I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Jeffrey Callison, the sultry voiced host of Capital Public Radio's show, Insight. It was a lot of nervous fun. The whole time I was being interviewed I thought my voice was shaking! (My knees sure were!) But when I gave it a listen, I was surprised to hear that all sounded smooth and oddly professional... except for when I cussed a little. :)

Back from LA...
My trip to LA was phenomenal! I was invited down to join a writers group filled with the most amazing, accomplished writers- my head is still spinning!
Now that I'm home I feel like I left a part of myself there. It's almost like I found my "tribe", warm, sincere people who center their lives around what they create... and I had to turn around and leave them. :( It's agonizing really!
I got the best guidance of my whole writer's existence in a matter of one meeting! "Guera" and "Cherryland" are the same book! I've been writing two books for months not realizing I'd been writing one! The clouds have parted and light is shining through... and I can finally get back to work! There is nothing more valuable than honest criticism.
I wish I could go every month! These women are MUSES!
Oh, the perils (& joys) of being a broke & starving artist!

YAY HotLanta!
Today I was thrilled to find out "Sweet Charlotte's Seventh Mistake" not only made the "New & Notable" list at the Forest Park Public Library, IL... It also got picked by writer Suzanne Van Atten of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as "Quirky Book of the Week"!
"Cori Crooks' graphic memoir about her mom (a pill-popping stripper with an endless parade of loser boyfriends) and the unknown identity of her birth father is fashioned like a scrapbook filled with faded black-and-white photos, diary entries and handwritten letters on lined notebook paper. Her six older siblings (yes, that makes the author her mother's seventh mistake) are scattered to live in foster homes or with various birth dads, and her mother fakes cancer twice before actually dying. It's grim stuff, but the scrapbook treatment keeps it from getting too heavy while echoing the spotty, disjointed nature of memory."
