New on Curious Fictions!

Share

New this month on Curious Fictions, A Cruel and Unusual Punishment, which is a Twilight Zone-style consideration of the proposition that there are fates worse than death.

As noted in my description of the story on Curious Fictions, the tale has a checkered past. It started life as a 7500 word science fiction story but, when Shawna McCarthy rejected it for Realms of Fantasy, it ended up almost doubling in size and took on a distinct structure—the 14 Stations of the Cross from Catholic theolog...

New Story on Curious Fictions!

Share

New this month on Curious Fictions, my debut Rhys Llewellyn, xeno-anthropologist adventure, “Shaman“. The novella is in two parts subtitled Part 1 and Part 2, for your reading convenience. It was originally published in Analog Science Fiction.

My magical realism novelette, The Nature of Things (originally published in Baen’s Universe) was chosen to be Curious Fictions’ Featured Story for the month of May. The story also appears in a collection of my short fiction entitled Bimbo on the Cover,...

I Am Author GoH at Leprecon 45!

Share

Yes, it’s official. I am the author guest of honor at Leprecon 2019 (aka, Leprecon 45). This is my first Guest of Honor tour of duty as a writer.

In a wild and crazy bit of synchronicity, Leprecon was the very first GoH appearance for Jeff and Maya Bohnhoff as a performing duo. That was in 1999. Exactly 20 years ago.

AND if that isn’t synchronicitous enough for you, Jeff and I are music GoH at Leprecon 2019 too. We’re a two-fer!

The Universe is a strange place.

Other guests of the Con are: Ba...

A Real Character

Share

I just put the final (draft) period on the novelization of ARCHANGEL: ASCENSION, Book One of the Winter Chronicles. The book is based on a movie script written by Dave Di Pietro of ReelCoolEntertainment.

This is a steampunk series and has taken me to a world I have longed to visit. I’ve written steampunk short fiction—notably “The Accumulating Man”, which is the origin story for Book View Cafe’s SHADOW CONSPIRACY anthology series, and “Steel Seraph” which is a ripped from the headlines look...

Found: One Super Villain

Share

Cool news from the producer of the steampunk movie I’m novelizing even as I speak.

He has cast the arch-villain for the movie—a true piece of nasty work named Benton Cross.

Cross will be played by veteran British actor Peter Woodward. If that name sounds familiar to you it may be because he is the son of the marvelous actor Edward Woodward who, memorably, played the towering and jolly Ghost of Christmas Present in the seminal production of Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, and who was also the s...

This is … How a Cancelled Championship Became a Celebration of Perseverance

Amanda & Drum

So, we drove four hours down to Bakersfield Friday night (November 15) for the Western Bands Association State Marching Band Championships. Our daughter, Amanda, is a member of the Oak Grove High School Marching Band. She plays bass drum in the OG battery, as you can see in the photo to the right.

The air quality had been iffy, but within tolerable levels for several days, so we were hopeful. Saturday morning, we awoke in our hotel to a text from Amanda saying the WBA had cancel...

A Huge Thank You!

My son, Alex “Mouse” Bohnhoff was there as well, but seemed to have avoided cameras. Jeff did catch the mysterious Mouse hiding in the back of the room, behind my bestie, Vern, and Joey Shoji.

The Grumpy Book Reviewer Reads Gina

Share

Shelving THE ANTIQUITIES HUNTER under “action adventure/thriller,” the Grumpy Book Reviewer (aka, Maria Logan Montgomery) gives Gina Miyoko’s debut a great review.

Some not-so-grumpy excerpts:

“I thoroughly enjoyed this enthralling mystery, in fact, I was hooked on page one, and quickly found myself engrossed in the search for bad guys and ancient artifacts.”

“The book is full of action and suspense that kept me turning digital pages far into the night.”

You can read the entire review here at...
