Spring!
Springtime is at hand. When will you ever bloom if not here and now?
-- Angelus Silesius
So, this past weekend I saw the first buds breaking out of some tree branches on a sunny day. I can't come close to expressing how happy this made me. This was a day or two after this picture was taken. I took this shot right outside my door while willing Spring to come come come come come and hurry up!
Yes, the dreaded snow fatigue had indeed set in firmly by last week. Then this past weekend: a gift. New...

Not So Fast (I agree.)
...
Given that our days are limited, our hours precious, we have to decide what we want to do, what we want to say, what and who we care about, and how we want to allocate our time to these things within the limits that do not and cannot change. In short, we need to slow down. Our society does not often tell us this. Progress, since the dawn of the Industrial Age, is...

Learning to relax ...
THE IMPORTANCE OF LEARNING TO RELAX:So after nearly a decade of running running running (invoke all necessary "rat race," "hamster wheel," and "workaholic" analogies here) I have finally been redirecting my energy toward the things most important to me. The poem describes an amputation performed on a baby girl born with twelve fingers and toes, but these lines make me think, of course, about the pressure so many women feel to alter our bodies: how the "image of [the...

Empire State of Mind
Case in point: tonight. Yeah. Today was a good day. How did it end? UK Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy + Jay Z ( Jigga What? ). Jay Z was not in person (although, really, what's the meta argument here).
The...

Good food, Good folks!
Hey! Detroit!
Get your good old fashioned grub on!
My latest 5-star (according to me, and probably you if you head on out there) dining experience was at Detroit's newest, yummiest eatery: 1917 American Bistro (on Livernois @ Outer Drive). Here's what I had to share on Yelp after the best dinner I've had in weeks:
O.M.G. This place was an incredible find. I headed into Detroit to take my grandmother out to dinner. Was trying to find someplace that was going to be good food, reasonably price...
