I have been teaching and holding a series of conferences abroad : Cambridge, Oxford, Rome, Turin, Naples, Milan, Padua, Pisa, Florence, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Berlin, Boston, Chicago, Baltimore (Johns Hopkins University), New Brunswick (Rutgers University), Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Kaslik ( Lebanon); Tunis, Brussels, Cork, Dublin, etc.

As far as editorial matters go, I direct four important university presses within France; the first one is « policy foundations » related to political philosophy. It includes a series of essays and texts (60 published volumes). The second one develops the topical issues « the philosophical intervention » (35 published volumes). The third one intends to revive « philosophical debates » of the past and present ( 50 volumes published) and the fourth one « The great interviews » plans to produce historical or political analysis of societies, the conflicts and problems relating to contemporary geopolitical configurations (published 1 volume). Furthermore, under the aegis of PUF, I also founded the journal of Cités (4 issues per year, since January 2000, or 44 issues published and four Special Editions), which has emerged as one of France’s main intellectual journals. Its constitutive principle involves a return to the state and an opening to the city as it is possible to be. (website of Cités : http://www.revue-cites.net).

In 2007 and 2008, the Cités journal was also accompanied by an additional supplement entitled the Right of the Cities, which was a journal covering intellectual life in France. With the publisher, Armand Colin, I established a collection « Emergences » (two volumes published in 2010, 5 volumes in 2011). This collection is directly related to research programs pertaining to « the emerging world ». It includes collective work and long-term individual publications of academics and researchers.

With the publisher, Vrin, I am a general director of the critical edition of the complete works of Hobbes. I am also a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Archives of Philosophy and the Scientific Committee of the journal Rights (Paris), British Journal for the History of Philosophy (London), and the Journal of Science and Spirit (Ottawa) and the Derochos y Libertades (Madrid).

In the area of institutional responsibilities, I was a member of the National Committee for Scientific Research(1995-1999) and the National Council of Universities 5 1994-1995 and 2000-2003) and co-chair of the committee that prepared the Report on Philosophical research in France, the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, during 1996 and 1997. My earliest work earned me the award of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences and received the bronze medal of the CNRS in 1988.
