Questions
Goodreads has a feature. Ask the author a question. No one has asked me a question. I would probably answer it. Actually, of course, it would answer it.

Bring Your Daughter To Your Reading
I had a reading last night at the bookstore near where I live. My daughter Nina wanted to go and I thought, yes, let's try this. Let's have Nina see her Mom be a successful writer.
Which is nerve wracking for many reasons. One -- what if people don't come to your reading.
What if you read a scene that is too grown up for your daughter? Which scene isn't too grown up for your daughter.
What if she misbehaves?
And possibility that I had not considered.
What if she wants to make fresh lemonade for everyone to drink before the reading?
So. I found myself making lemonade with her an hour before the event. Sticky fingers, sugar everywhere. That. Two friends came over before the reading and watched, amused, I think, and we drank the prosecco I had bought for the reading.
And, I am not surprised I ended up buying her the hardcover Bad Kitty book she had been craving for weeks.
Two friends from her school came with their parents and so right before I started to read, she took off. I could hear her talking and laughing in another part of the bookstore while I read and answered questions.
I think it was a successful experiment, still.

Out Now (And Two Profiles)
THE RED CAR is now a book that you can buy or take out of the library.
That seems worthy of mention.
Lot's of stuff about the book this first week out.
Two profiles of me.
One with drawing at Buzzfeed:
https://www.buzzfeed.com/doree/marcy-...
One without in Kirkus
https://www.kirkusreviews.com/feature...
I am posting links to reviews on my web page (have to keep up...)
http://www.marcydermansky.com/
And there is a feature on Goodreads, ask the author a question, so feel free. I ask myself questions all the time.
xox,
Marcy

The Today Show!
Here is a first for me in my life as an author. Emma Straub praised my novel on The Today Show! That deserves an exclamation point.
She described The Red Car as "twisted, sexy, and mysterious." She did such an amazing job talking about how much she loved my novel that the host Savannah Guthrie grabbed the book from Emma's hands.
You can watch it here:

Books in the front of the store
It was Nina, my seven-year old daughter who noticed a stack of my books on the front table in the Watchung Bookstore. Bad Marie and Twins. And notecard with my name and the date of my reading and the title of my new book. Which was wasn't on the pile because it isn't out yet. Soon.
This is now our bookstore. We live a block away.
I was surprised by how happy I felt. It was such a surprise. It has been a long time since I have seen one of my books in an actual bookstore and I felt hopeful and good.

Another Marcy
Checked my Goodreads page today. Another Marcy selected The Red Car as a book to be read. Okay, this genuinely pleases me. My name is not that common anymore. Too often, people don't spell it correctly. I hope Marcy likes my book.

Impenetrable Beginning
I recently bought a new book on an impulse. I liked the cover. I like the author, as much as I know her on Facebook. Somehow though, I have read the first four pages of this novel over and over and over again. I can never find the story. Every time I reread the beginning it is if it brand new. None of it has stuck. I don't know what I am reading.
Does that ever happen to anyone else? Cleaning up tonight, I put the book on my bookshelf. I am going to start to read something else.

Bad Marie sighting.
Stepped out onto apartment balcony. I was so thrilled to see my next door neighbor on her balcony reading Bad Marie. Then I remembered I gave her a copy.
I think it still counts.

THE GREAT BOOKSELLERS FALL 2016 PREVIEW
I have been looking forward to fall for awhile now. Nina goes back to school. My book comes out. My book comes out. And, yes, I wanted that sentence twice. Three times would be too many or I would type it again. I obviously considered it.
The Red Car was included in THE GREAT BOOKSELLERS FALL 2016 PREVIEW over at Lithub.

Maybe this is a quote I would tattoo on my body if I were ever to get a tattoo:
Dermansky is acerbic salvation.

Events
Finalizing some events.
It is not enough to have a reading any more either. They really are events. When I went to Irina Reyn's launch party, there was this terrific little band playing Russian songs. Finalizing some events.

There was vodka, Russian food, a friend in the role of bartender. It was a party. I had such a good time and I put a chocolate egg in my knapsack which I ate on the subway ride home. Irina also read and was interviewed. Or, perhaps it is better say, was in conversation with...
I will be in conversation with some incredible writers. Emily St John Mandel, Megan Abbott, Robin Black, Lizzie Skurnick, Pamela Erens, It seems sort of nuts, typing this list, but it is true.
