My Gal, the Zombie is really taking off! In the short time which I’ve had this property, it has been one of the most successful in my over ten year career in comics! I was asked to submit something to the Red Headed Zombie Award Show, an art and concert show promoter run by CJ Hacket in Colorado Springs, at the end of 2012. I submitted a zombie drawing of Chelsea from Heaven Forbid, in a style influenced by Dan DeCarlo. It especially fit, since Chelsea is a redhead. It ended up winning one of their awards in January 2013 and they also used the art for one of their fliers. I was quite happy!

Unless otherwise noted, comics were published by Lamp Post, Inc. or independently by Crazy Good Comics.

My Gal, the Zombie Film

MGTZTara

A somewhat “open secret” is that I have spoken with a number of studios about putting Heaven Forbid in a motion picture since the very first volume was released.  Most of this was in regards to animation, but when a local Denver movie studio with a nice resume, approached me about doing a live action MGTZ film, I was completely on board.

We discussed casting, story, and other elements for a few months before that studio admitted they needed to back out of the project at that time.  Thankfully, I had not sold the rights and still own them completely.  I was excited about the momentum we were gaining, especially the very positive response, and decided to shift gears to another project about which I had been thinking.

You may know that I am a very big fan of pre-1970′s B-Movies, especially of the horror genre.  I thought about how we could use our zombie gal as a horror host for these films (think Elvira, Vampira, Svengoolie, and to some degree MST3K).  After running this by our collaborators, we have decided that this is the mode we want to take at present.  Having these films may also get us closer to doing an actual MGTZ narrative feature.  I am willing to wait for that; there is no rush.

As you can see in the image above, Tara Piehl, who has gained quite some acclaim as a popular cosplay model, will have the role of our zombie gal. Here are a few samples of her modeling in comic centric costumes:

This project, titled “My Gal the Zombie: Tragedy Travesty” will be released by Stay Sick Pictures, the film division of our collaborators at HairBall8 Records.  They released “The Psychobilly Sickness” feature to great success a few years ago.  I think this project feels right at home for all of us and I can’t wait to debut it!

Meanwhile, I’ve decided to try my hand at animation, just to see if I could do it.  I’ve only done a very short test, but I think I could do it in a way which meets my needs.  Here is that minimal test.  I think I would like to use animation in the intro for Tragedy Travesty.

Post by Heaven Forbid is not the worst comic.
