Behavioral Genetics

Over the years I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of people ranging across the spectrum from the bluest of blue-collar workers to the wheelers and dealers of the world, from the depressed and lonely, to the energetic and optimistic, from the sports enthusiast to the elite athlete, from the pious of pious to the incarcerated, and in so doing I have observed many things. The first, and probably most important, is that we judge people by their behavior. Think about this, the man who strikes his ...

The Stagnation: Margins in Belief

Compare the history and evolution of science to the descriptions of the universe as offered by religion. The evolution of religion lacked the same dynamic self-examination that led to so many scientific discoveries. Religion stagnated as culture changed and education levels increased.

Succumbing to Feelings of Ennui and Despair?

More and more people today are reporting feelings of listlessness, tedium, boredom, and general dissatisfaction with life. This at a time when the available choice of stimulation in our world has never been higher. With all this stimulation, why would so many people feel ennui?

Choosing the Right Thinking

In a recent conversation, it became clear to me that many people believe the way they think is the only way they can think. In other words, their mind provides them with not just what they are thinking, but the way they think. Now, stop and think about that (pun intended). We all know the old saying, “There is more than one way to skin a cat,” Well, there is also more than one way to think. The mind is literally a story machine and the stories it tells us ...

Refuting Science’s View Regarding the Irrationality of Faith

It is not what a book says that matters, but rather what it does. Questioning Spirituality is not about proving or disproving the presence of a Divine power, but only about the rationality of believing that such a thing could exist. The beauty of this book is that it delivers—opening doors that many believe should be kept tightly closed.

What Would You Like Going Through Your Mind?

I have had the good fortune to work with a variety of people during my career ranging from CEOs to elite athletes, but one of my favorite experiences was working with a young teen dealing with school phobia. I want to share this story with you because it is tutorial for all of us. Self-Sabotaging Self-Talk Everyone I have ever communicated with has, from time to time, experienced self-sabotaging inner chatter. Thoughts of doubt, unworthiness, incapability, and so forth are not uncommon. In fact, I would venture to say that ...

A Modern Theistic Existential View

For years now, our higher educational system has sought to separate church from state. Unfortunately, in their efforts to sanitize education from religious or spiritual beliefs, they have become secular indoctrination machines. The result is that the majority of young people graduating from college know better than to believe in anything like a so-called higher power. My own two sons came away from University with their science degrees and a conviction that Freud was correct, “Religion is a sugar-coated neurotic crutch.” Indeed, young people, for the most part, are convinced ...

The Four Views

Excerpted from Mind Programming by Eldon Taylor Once a wise master had four students who exceeded all others in ability. One day the five gathered, and the master spoke to the first student, “Tell me what you see when you look into the world.” “I see savagery. The planet is raped. The world hides from the truth. Contaminating material is released everywhere. There is particulate matter in the heavens and acid rain. The rain forests are being destroyed, and so is the ozone. There is such ignorance and selfishness. The ...

Investments

We live in a world full of investment opportunities and experts ready to guide the use of our resources. There are stocks, bonds, commodities, mutual funds, currency exchanges, real estate, collectibles, etc., and so forth (redundancy intended). The planning required for our retirement, our first home, our children’s college education, along with so much more, is not something easily dismissed. When you give serious thought to your future, do you also plan your own health, education, and welfare? Many people do not. Indeed, they seem to take for granted that they are stagnant beings. That is, matters such as diet ...
