Boarded Windows, Dead Leaves by Michael Jess Alexander
Boarded Windows, Dead Leaves by Michael Jess Alexander
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
A good selection of grisly stories to read before you go to bed.
I like how there is a connected theme throughout this book. I’ve always been a fan of short chronicles, and this group’s brevity is welcome.
My favorites in this collection are Warm and Tender, The Delivery, Accident at the Laboratory, and Vic.
There are some great twists given in these stories, my favorite being The Delivery. After reading it, I found myself thinking about this ghastly tale while devouring my delicious meal. At first, the description of the villain wasn’t frightening to me, but after thinking about it, it dawned on me how creepy it is!
Accident at the Laboratory had me thinking about The Flying Spaghetti Monster, and I enjoyed the different style of this work compared to the others. I relished the transformation given in Vic, and karma is something to watch out for in Warm and Tender.
Only four stars because the selection as a whole has to be fantastic to get a five-star rating. Nonetheless, this is a great fiction assembly; if you don’t mind getting goosebumps, I recommend feasting on this ensemble of grim stories.

The Mice of Dumpler: Jonah’s Adventure by Chris Weld
The Mice of Dumpler: Jonah’s Adventure by Chris Weld
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Entertaining.
Jonah is brave, despite being seven years old. I liked the similarities between an arrog and a creature that I know in real life. The illustrations aided my reading experience, and the book cover is fabulous. That alone lets me overlook the one blemish that I saw in this book, which is mentioned near the end of this review. Props to the illustrator for providing top-notch visuals; they aligned perfectly with the book. The narrative flowed well, and the formatting of this book assisted my reading experience. I would be delighted to read another book from this author.
The only flaw that I saw in this book was spacing errors. However, that did not hamper my reading experience (but it was noticeable).

Hush Little Baby by Ashley Michele
Hush Little Baby by Ashley Michele
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Thrilling.
Do not underestimate this book! The book length is short, but perfect. The characters are raunchy, dirty, sensual, and shocking. It’s amusing and realistic to see the secretive nature of the main character, and her fascination for things that you normally wouldn’t see. My reading engagement was high while reading the entire book, and I managed to complete it in one sitting.
If you’re looking for an erotic short story with a concluding dark twist, I recommend this book.
This book did not receive a five-star rating because it would have benefited from keener editing, and a better book cover.
Please note this book is intended for mature audiences only who are into erotica, and do not mind seeing profanity.

Beautiful illustrations!
I don’t regret reading this picture book one bit. The visuals are great, the text is easy to see, the rhymes are cute, the message is of this book is touching, and the prose matches the visuals well. I recommend this book for children.

Through the Dimension of Nightmares by K. Weikel
Through the Dimension of Nightmares by K. Weikel
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Wow.
This book contains a blend of multiple genres, such as paranormal, suspense, and romance.
While the prose lacks a measure of finesse, I found that my reading engagement was high during most of this novel.
K. Weikel has quite the imagination, creating a nightmarish realm depicting ungodly creatures you would never see in the real world. She was all over the place, and I noticed references to her other works. The book cover is fascinating.
The ending made me cringe because I am not into romance. Also, I wish Kyle spoke his feelings like a man rather than being sheepish about it.
A few times, I found myself desiring for this book to be shorter.
I did not give this book a five-star rating because it is not edited and because I did not like how Kyle was shy at the end about his feelings.

The Ones with Gilded Bones by Nathaniel Luscombe
The Ones with Gilded Bones by Nathaniel Luscombe
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Unique.
The Ones with Gilded Bones by Nathaniel Luscombe is a fantasy-horror, short story that takes you on an adventure through the wetlands to discover the truth about the origin of two young girls and the secrets that surround the people they know, as well as their true nature.
This novella is perfect for book lovers who are looking to feast on a tale that offers high reading engagement, world-building, mystery, and intrigue. I recommend reading this book straight through in one sitting, and I am hoping that the author will create this into a series.
It was cool to see one of the characters become a rider, the transformation was epic, and the descriptions were vivid enough to allow bibliophiles to paint a picture in their head of what is going on in the story.
This book would have benefited from the assistance of a good editor, as I noticed a typographical mistake and a punctuation error. It may have been possible to develop this chronicle more had the author invested more time and money into it.
In the future, I hope this author explores the thought of hiring a cartographer to create a visual of this world, so readers can better imagine it.

Roar of the Soul by Ronnie D. Miller
Roar of the Soul: A Journey to Inner Strength in Africa by Ronny D. Miller
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Wow!
Just the illustrations alone made me want to give this book a five-star rating. But when you count on the easy-to-read text, and good narrative? This book is something to behold. I think that the length of this book is perfect. The author added a little extra dialogue at the end of the book to clear any lose ends; I love it. It is a splendid children’s book that kids and adults will enjoy.

Death and Other Survival Strategies by Carolyn R. Russell
Death and Other Survival Strategies by Carolyn R. Russell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Different.
This was my first-time reading flash fiction, and I enjoyed it. I was able to push through this album because I knew that each story would end in less than ten pages. If you’re thinking about reading this book, I’d say give it a shot. Please note that there is profanity and blaspheming in this book, as this collection is geared towards a mature audience. The book cover makes sense after reading some of the stories in this book.

An enchanting tale that you’ll enjoy.
Detective Buster Cuffs has an attention-grabbing book cover, and the visuals are outstanding. The illustrations helped immerse me into the story. I like how there isn’t too much text on each page, and you can tell that the author worked hard on this book. I highly recommend this book for children and adults who like quick reads.
