Paris Syndrome launch

August 3, 2019
Updates!
So delighted to be there for @ciarancannon to award the first @CTYI alumni awards to @darylhanberry and @chennessybooks @DublinCityUni today @muirtheimhne @DeloitteIreland pic.twitter.com/BWW8d3B4RW

I got a shiny thing from CTYI, my summer home. As someone who was always ‘ugh, teaching?’ until working here and going ‘oh hello crazy passion for educating’, this is… a thing. For which I am very grateful.
Also: delighted to talk to Rosemary MacCabe on her How To Be Sound podcast. Rosemary is a mad talented writer and also brilliantly honest on social media – and she’s off to America soon, so I was thrilled to squeeze this in before she heads off.
Also also: latest YA fiction reviews for the Irish Times. These are all positive, which you get to do with a column where you pick and choose what gets covered, but I hope it is also still useful commentary on an area of book-land that does not get nearly enough critical attention.

Things!

Look at the pretty!
And the first title from Banshee Press, Paris Syndrome by Lucy Sweeney Byrne (coming in September), can be pre-ordered now. Also check out the very lovely things some fancy writers have said about it.
The autumn schedule for creative writing workshops at the Big Smoke Writing Factory is available now.
And that is it for now!

let me (sort of) explain the photograph above with this piece from the Irish Times… meanwhile, those folks at HeadStuff have been letting me indulge my nerdishness once more: some thoughts on the new Star Trek Deep Space Nine documentary.as ever, doing a fair bit of book-yammering (including picture-book appreciation) over on the social medias: instagram & twitter.

#collegegreenjournal launch at TCD
A post shared by Claire Hennessy (@chennessybooks) on May 3, 2019 at 8:01am PDT
I was very kindly asked to contribute something to College Green , the TCD postgraduate arts journal, which this year had as its theme ‘silence’. And then I read at the launch, which was only slightly intimidating (so many clever people!).
I’ve been reading many gorgeous and wonderful books, but two in particular worth mentioning: Good Enough by Jen Petro-Roy, a middle-grade (9-12s) novel about a twelve-year-old in treatment for an eating disorder, and You Think It, I’ll Say It, an incredible short story collection by Curtis Sittenfeld (ten tales in there and not a single ‘meh’ one, which is a rare thing).
YA book reviews: here’s the April roundup. And here’s May.
