Hugo awards?

I noticed that Hugo Award nominations are open (until March I believe), is anyone out there part of the nomination group? If so I guess I'm just reminding you that Zoey Punches the Future in the Dick exists, though now that I think about it I have trouble imagining a book with that title winning a Hugo. Maybe just forget I said anything.

A year-end summary for Jason "David Wong" Pargin

Here's a summary of where we are:

* I'm about 88,000 words into the fourth John and Dave book, tentatively titled "David Wong Dies in This One", it's due at the end of next year and will be out in 2022.

* It will be published under my own name instead of the David Wong pseudonym.

* No additional news on the Zoey TV series, other than that the studio renewed the rights so that would imply they're still working on it or planning to (everything stopped for COVID this year).

* No news I can share about a new JDATE show/movie, either, it's always out there and I do believe there'll be something eventually, just a ton of moving parts.

* I have a long line of requests lined up for me to do podcasts, a nonfiction book of essays, more guest appearances and columns and many other things, but I have to buckle down and get JDATE 4 written, 2020 really dragged down progress and I don't want there to be a crunch at the end of 2021. I need to block everything else out.

* The new Zoey book that just came out is the most acclaimed of all of the books I've written, from critics and fans alike (I think the 4.8 average across nearly 800 reviews on Amazon is the most impressive) so if you haven't jumped on that series, it's a pretty safe bet: http://www.futuristicviolence.com

Retiring David Wong

If you missed the announcement, my next book (and the ones after) will just be published with Jason Pargin on the cover instead of the David Wong pseudonym, a name I came up with 22 years ago to keep my office co-workers from running into articles making fun of them. But I haven't had that job since 2007 and I think they've gone out of business since then so that's probably not a concern now.

Other news: Titan books (my UK publisher) has featured both Zoey books on their 2020 Christmas gift list, check out the cool UK version of the covers!

We're holding a $250 20-second video contest

We're doing a fairly ridiculous contest that does come with a decent prize, $250 and some books signed by me for the winner, the top 10 all get signed books.

All you have to do is make a 20-second (or less) video performing some lines out of either Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits or from the new book's excerpt (https://read.macmillan.com/lp/zoey-punches-excerpt/). Be creative! Use puppets or Legos or your own face, whatever, have fun with it.
