It's 🍂cover reveal time🍂
I was planning to type up some sort of exciting introduction but might as well let the reveal speak for itself: the cover for my second contemporary romance is here!!

LOOK AT IT.
Fall is my favorite season, so I think I was destined to love this cover, but the artist (Camila Gray) and the cover designer (Olga Grlic) absolutely nailed the cozy vibes and the university setting.
This book has:
🧡 second-chance romance
☕ history nerds
🏛️ university setting
🍂 flashbacks to sleepaway camp in the Blue Ridge Mountains
🎃 Halloween gala
💿 mixed CDs and emo throwbacks
You can add Given Our History on Goodreads here. It’s also now available for pre-order through most websites where books are sold. Pre-orders can seriously impact first-week sales, which are extremely important in determining a book’s success (I always feel like a broken record here, sorry). And on that note…
I’m very excited to share that signed copies are available for pre-order through Oliver & Friends Bookshop in Belgrade, ME. Last year, a good number of people asked me where they could order signed copies of Seven Rules for Breaking Hearts and, being as it was my first time going through the whole publishing process, I had no clue who was supposed to set that up.
It’s me. I was supposed to set that up.
This time around, I wanted to make sure to plan ahead. I met Renee—the owner of Oliver & Friends—at the start of the summer and strongly felt that she was someone I would want to coordinate this sort of thing with. Pre-orders through the Oliver & Friends website will be signed and shipped right around pub day next year, and they’ll include pre-order goodies (still to be revealed 👀).
And of course, you’ll be supporting a small business!
That’s all for now!

Cough medicine, #DarkAcademiaSummer, and gearing up for GIVEN OUR HISTORY
So I figure I should start by explaining that I’ve finally accepted that it’s 2023 and moved my newsletter to Substack. I tend to put this sort of thing off for as long as possible, not because I hate change, but because I’m horrible about keeping up with my social media as it is, so the idea of learning a new platform is daunting.
But I’m excited to have a more streamlined way of keeping in touch with everyone! I plan to take full advantage of all these new features to share more interesting content. More on that later.
Upcoming EventsI’ve got a few in-person events lined up for August. I’m really looking forward to meeting readers and booksellers at the brand-new Barnes & Noble in Brunswick, ME this weekend. I’ll be signing copies of Seven Rules for Breaking Hearts starting around 3PM and would love to see you there, if you’re in the area.
I’ll also be down in Cape Cod for the Beach Read Weekend event at the Barnes & Noble in Hyannis, both August 12th & August 13th. I sat on a panel with Jenny L. Howe, Lauren H. Mae, and KJ Micciche back in June and am looking forward to another event with them.
Other NewsI’m very excited to start talking more about my second novel, GIVEN OUR HISTORY. The finished cover landed in my inbox yesterday and I am in love. 🤩🍂🦀 It’s got all the cozy fall semester vibes I was hoping for. Keep an eye out for a reveal in the near future! Pre-order links should go live within the next month or so.
Here’s a little moodboard that I previously shared on my website:
My Reading ListSince early June, I’ve been having what I’m calling a #DarkAcademiaSummer. It’s one of my favorite subgenres and I need to romanticize academia if I’m going to make it through this last semester of grad school. Some of my favorites so far include Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo, The Likeness by Tana French, and Vicious by VE Schwab. I’m currently reading Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross.
Life, Etc.Currently gearing up for a trip to nothern Germany and Denmark in a couple weeks for thesis research. But while I’m there, I’m also going to meet up with A.R. Frederiksen, who was my very first friend on writing Twitter! If you’re a fan of fantasy and spec fic, definitely check out her short stories.
Oh, yeah, and I’ve been sick twice this summer? I’ve gone through five bottles of cough medicine. That’s got to be bad for my liver, but more importantly, it’s completly thrown off my drafting schedule. Here’s hoping my immune system gets a grip.
Anyway, that’s all for now—I say that like this newsletter wasn’t already twice as long as it needed be. If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading.
Cheers,
Kristyn
