by Robin Bielman
Their love was ancient history…until their paths crossed again.
Samantha Bennett put Dean Malloy out of her mind five years ago, when he broke her heart after a summer fling. But now he’s back in her life, and ready to steal a heritage protection contract that could make or break her career–if he doesn’t steal her heart first. Samantha’s vowed to hate him, but it’s more than anger heating the competition between them.
With sparks flying across the conference table and sizzling in every touch, Dean proposes a weekend liaison. Anything to have Sam again; anything to get her out of his system. But the unresolved feelings between them complicate both their personal and professional lives, and one wild weekend could turn into a disaster that would destroy the one job that means more to Samantha than anything. For a shot at love…is it worth the risk?

Taking care of business may cost him his heart.
In addition to overseeing the financial affairs of the wealthy Kristoff family, Nicholas Demetrious specializes in hauling its rambunctious members out of trouble. Especially his distant cousin, Raven Rutledge.
The tabloids love her bad-girl antics, sexy pout, and body made for sin. Nicholas would love to spank the bejesus out of her, but this time the situation is too serious to entertain such a fantasy. A lucrative business deal with the Exeters is in jeopardy, and Jackson Exeter Sr.'s ultimatum is clear: Remove this man-eater from my country house, or the deal is off.
Raven is in way over her head. She accepted the invitation to the Exeters' Adirondack house party as a refreshing change from her jet-setting lifestyle—until she learns the guest list includes his entire family. His ex-girlfriend. And the junior Exeter's intention to propose.
If ever she needed suave, sophisticated Nicholas's persuasive powers, it's now. Then he's there with a plan to get her out of this tangle: sweep her off her feet. But their pretend passion turns all too real. And what started out as a weekend of fun threatens to shatter into betrayal and heartbreak.
Warning: Contains a tabloid sweetheart who loves to be bad, a sexy hero with little patience for mind games, and a game of strip pool that will make you rethink your weekend plans.

Shelby Morgen
Award winning author Shelby Morgen loves writing off-beat tales that defy as many rules as possible. She likes chocolate with her peanut butter, Suspense with her Romance, and kink with her sex. She's always had a hard time keeping Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Paranormal from mixing with her kink. Fortunately for Shelby, electronic publishing has opened many new doors for cross-genre authors and artists.
Shelby shares her belief in electronic publishing with her longtime friend and partner, Bill, her husband of 30 plus years.
When you can catch her awake and not buried up to her eyebrows in work, Shelby will assure you this is the best job in the world -- she's the keeper of dreams.
Shelby's got a Facebook page, but she doesn't hang out there much -- the Vampire Wars will suck her in.

It’s Party Time in the Regency!
One of the fun things about writing historical romance is that you get to do some pretty cool research. For my new book, His Mistletoe Bride , I spent quite a bit of time researching Christmas and holiday traditions of the Regency era. Of course, many of the traditions that we now observe developed during Queen Victoria’s reign—thanks, in part, to Charles Dickens—but that doesn’t mean there weren’t some very festive holiday traditions celebrated during the Regency.

Here’s a short excerpt from His Mistletoe Bride, featuring my hero and heroine, Lucas and Phoebe, at the Twelfth Night Party at Mistletoe Manor.
The cake’s thick icing gleamed with a brilliant white in the blaze of the candles, and whimsical sugar figurines dotted the polished, two-tiered surface. The round base was elaborately trimmed with sugar flowers in a rainbow of pretty pastels, while a credible representation of the village church and a few of the local shops topped the cake off.
“Good Lord,” Lucas exclaimed. “Is that the village square on top of that monstrosity?”
“Yes,” Phoebe said proudly. “It was Cook’s idea. She did a splendid job, do you not think?”
Her husband laughed. “Actually, yes. It’s got everything but the village drunk.”
“Really, Lucas,” she responded primly. “Come along. It is time to take your seat on the Lord of Misrule’s throne.”
He frowned. “Why do you think I’m going to be Lord of Misrule? That’s a damned big cake, and there’s only one little bean baked into it. Anyone could find it and be appointed lord.”
She glanced over at Mrs. Christmas, who was cutting the first slice. “We decided to do things a bit differently this year. Given certain, ah, mishaps in the past, everyone will be handed slips of paper with their cake. He who receives the slip with the appropriate mark will be designated Lord of Misrule.”
“Hmm. I suppose someone got drunk and almost choked on the bean one year.”
She widened her eyes. “How did you know that?”
“It’s a fairly frequent occurrence. It happened to Robert once, and he wasn’t even in his cups. Almost went to his grave because of the damn thing. He’s only still with us thanks to his grandfather. The General slapped him on the back so hard he nearly knocked the poor lad into the next room.”
Phoebe had to laugh at the image. “Well, we want to avoid that sort of thing. Mrs. Christmas came up with the slips as a substitute.”
“Yes, but that still doesn’t explain why you think I’ll—”
Lucas broke off as Mrs. Christmas trundled toward them, carrying a plate. He directed a baleful look Phoebe’s way. “Tell me you are not doing this.”
She gave him a beatific smile in response.
He groaned. “On top of everything else, I must now be Lord of Misrule?”
“I am afraid so.”
Although many of us may no longer celebrate Twelfth Night, there are still lots of beloved holiday traditions carried over from the Regency and Victorian period. What’s your favorite Christmas or holiday tradition?

When Major Lucas Stanton inherited his earldom, he never dreamed his property would include the previous earl’s granddaughter. Phoebe Linville is a sparkling American beauty, yes, but with a talent for getting into trouble. Witness the compromising position that forced them into wedlock. Whisked away to Mistletoe Manor, his country estate, it isn’t long before she is challenging his rules—and surprising him in and out of bed…
Phoebe has no intention of bowing to Lucas’s stubbornness even though he offers all that she wants. His kisses and unexpected warmth are enticing, but Phoebe is determined to show the Earl of Merritt what real love is all about. And if that takes twelve nights of delicious seduction by a roaring fire, she’s more than willing to reveal her gifts very

Facebook ~ Twitter ~ goodreads Thanks so much for having me! Meeting authors at conferences and signings is an amazing experience, but sadly one many readers don’t get to experience. I love the idea of an Online Reader Retreat!
We all love a good romance, some hot smexing. But today I want to take a minute to celebrate a different kind of relationship—our girlfriends.
Why do we love our besties?
1. Let’s overanalyze
Our best friends are our sounding boards—a way to work through our troubles, especially guy troubles. Our friends are the voice of reason, our conscience, or maybe even the bad girl inside us, waiting for permission.
2. It’s unconditional, baby

3. Share and share alike
And sometimes the pleasure is in the giving, in being a shoulder to cry on or a helping hand for the women in our lives. It’s not just having a best friend, it’s being one.
Allie’s in a tough spot at the beginning of Giving It Up. She’s been betrayed in the past by a man she thought was her friend. And as a result of that pain, she visits the nightclub once a month for a round of rough, anonymous sex. You know, as one does.
Thank goodness for Shelly, though. She is there for Allie 100% percent. Of course, Shelly has troubles of her own, but as a high class escort, she’s able to not only help Allie out financially, as well as babysit Allie’s daughter during the day when Allie works.
Giving It Up is a romance, and so Allie’s romantic and sexual relationship with Colin is front and center; however, I think a sincere friendship can be just as sweet. And though all is not always golden in their friendship, platonic love Allie and Shelly for each other is genuine and lasting.
Let’s hear it for the girls

Buy the Book
Allie prowls the club for a man who will use her hard and then ditch her. Hey, it’s not rape if she wants it. Instead she finds Colin, who looks tough but treats her tenderly, despite her protests.
He tempts her, but kindness and a few mindblowing orgasms aren’t enough to put her back together again. Allie has no hope for a real relationship. Two years ago her best friend betrayed her in the worst possible way – she’d be stupid to trust a man again. Besides, she has her daughter to think of, the only good thing to have come from that dark night.
But when her rapist returns, threatening her sanity and custody of her daughter, Allie turns to Colin. Under his protection and patient touch, Allie begins to heal and learns to hope. Colin’s no saint, though, and his criminal past draws danger of its own. Allie must fight to protect her child and the man she loves, hoping her newfound power will be enough to save them all.
“Giving It Up is an erotic, compelling story that takes us to the shadowy, lonely places but doesn’t leave us there. Amber Lin shows us that romance isn’t just for the rich and shiny. Love can find its way even into the dark corners of the most damaged hearts.”—Tiffany Reisz, author of The Siren

Rick Reed was in law enforcement for 30 years before retiring and becoming the author of the Detective Jack Murphy serial killer fiction series. Reed draws on personal experience as he brings serial killer-fiction to life in the small town of Evansville, Indiana.
His acclaimed true crime book, BLOOD TRAIL, is the account of Reed's capture of serial killer Joseph Weldon Brown in 2000 after Brown claimed his 14th victim.
The Detective Jack Murphy series begins with, The Cruelest Cut, and continues with, The Coldest Fear, available now in all bookstores and as e-books.
He now lives in the San Francisco area with his wife.
[image error] When I saw the Online Reader Retreat advertised I thought it was a great way to connect with readers. I have to admit I was slightly intimidated by the represented genres because I write true crime and fiction---about serial killers.
I suppose my works could be interpreted as romance because all serial killers have a love/hate relationship with their victims and sometimes with the police investigators. Also, serial killers have fantasies about their intended victims and some are only capable of a relationship with someone they have total control over. These killers are both men and women, young and old, of every race and religion, and are out there, among us, and not hiding.
After retiring from almost thirty years in law enforcement, and having the distinction of being one of a handful of detectives to ever catch a serial killer, I became an associate professor of criminal justice at a community college. One of the classes I taught was titled “Serial Killers—A Global Perspective.”
[image error] I was surprised to find that several students from other colleges had signed up for my class. There is a strong interest among segments of the public that I would have never guessed possible. Housewives and factory workers seemed to outnumber the young traditional students. No one missed class or came late.
As a writer, I have read a lot of the research findings of law enforcement profilers and academics, and I have my own beliefs and opinions on the subject of serial killers. But, from listening to my readers likes and dislikes in my books, I have some questions of my own.
So this is my chance to ask you, the readers, why you think murder—particularly serial murder—is such an interesting topic and what expectations do you have of law enforcements investigation and resolving of these types of killings? Also what expectations do you have of the writer?
[image error] Buy the bookLet's chat: I’ve developed a few questions, but please, don’t restrict your comments to this list. One thing I found as a detective was that the best information came from the questions not asked.
1. Do you relate to the victims of serial killers? Do you tend to think, “That could have been me?”
2. Do you think that victims do something or have a lifestyle that brings them to the attention of their slayer?
3. Companion Question to #2: If you answered the above affirmative, do you think there is something the victim could have done to avoid being targeted?
4. Do you think that all victims are targeted by their killer, or are they victims of convenience?
5. Do you read fiction or non-fiction?
6. Do you think serial killing only occurs within the United States? (Acts of war or terrorism or religious jihad’s excluded.)
7. Why do you think a person becomes a serial murderer? Do you think it is a mental or physical phenomenon? For instance, do you think someone is destined to become a serial killer because of his or her genetic makeup or because of a brain injury or illness?
8. What expectations do you have of the writer of fictional serial killings?

Five Annoying Problems in Books
Recently I was talking to friends who are not in the publishing business and we were discussing some of their pet peeves with books. I work hard on my stories, and while they're not perfect, I really try not to be guilty of any of these writing sins. See if you agree with what my friends said.
1. Head hopping: I think writers especially notice this, but I know readers do too. If I don't see a scene break, an extra line of space, or other indication and the point of view suddenly changes I have to go back and figure out who's talking. That takes me out of the story, as I'm sure it does you.
2. Impossible body positioning: Particularly during either sex scenes or when the characters are cuddling. As a writer, I know how hard it is to keep track of body parts, but if the hero has five hands, it's a problem.
3. Out of character dialogue: Have you ever come across a hero who is, say, a high-school educated cowboy but whose speech makes him sound like a PhD candidate? While I know that too much bad English is annoying, so is going too far the other way.
4. Plot loopholes: Did you ever get to the end of a book and say, "But what happened with [insert plot element]?" This is something all writers are guilty of at one time or another, but according to my friends, it's pretty annoying. Sorry about that, readers. *hangs head*
5. Rapidly switching points of view: Even if there are scene/POV breaks, when an author switches points of view for only a few paragraphs and then goes back to the former one, it makes me and my friends wonder why it was necessary to change the POV.

Jami works in IT for her day job and is a former high school business teacher. In her spare time, Jami rides and shows her dressage horse and grows roses. An avid boater, Jami has spent countless hours in the San Juan Islands, a common setting in her books. In her opinion, it is the most beautiful place on earth.
The Challenge of Creating Bad Boy Heroes
The hero in my recent release, Forward Passes, is Tyler Harris, a Super Bowl winning quarterback, ultimate bad boy, and a self-proclaimed jerk with a fondness for the “F” word. To say writing about Tyler was a challenge would be putting it mildly. I wrote at least six versions of his story until I settled on the current version.
Tyler was initially introduced in Fourth and Goal, as a cousin and teammate to Derek. As one reviewer put it, Tyler came across as the jerk with a heart of gold. In Forward Passes, I needed to stay true to the character I created in the initial book, yet help him grow in this book.
The most difficult thing when writing Forward Passes was balancing Tyler’s jerk persona with the nice guy hiding underneath. I couldn’t make Tyler too soft or too hard. In the beginning, he needed to be a first-class jerk, but the reader also needed to see glimpses of the real Tyler, even if Tyler didn’t see them. So I gave Tyler a cat—an unwanted cat—because “real men don’t like cats” or so they claim (tell that one to my husband). I also added a soft spot for senior citizens. Lastly, I gave Tyler a secret weakness. He actually believes deep down that he’s unworthy of his fame and fortune.
I opened the book with Tyler winning his second Super Bowl in two years, yet feeling oddly distanced and apathetic about the entire thing. I’m hoping that first scene gives readers insight into where his head is at as he struggles with dissatisfaction in his current life.
Regarding setting, I stuck Tyler on an island in Washington’s San Juan Islands in an old run-down mansion, taking him out of his city life of endless parties and instant gratification. Before long, he learns the true meaning of island time, as he copes with workmen who don’t show up, no cell or TV service, a stubborn furnace, and a scaled-back nightlife.
Of course, Tyler meets his match, a woman who challenges him to be the person he wants to be not the person others expect him to be. My goal was to keep Tyler’s essence intact, while having him grow as a person. I hope I accomplished that task.

With two championships in as many years, superstar Tyler Harris is the best quarterback in the league. Gorgeous and rich, he’s at the top of his game. But everyone’s looking to take him down. There’s a building media frenzy around an unfortunate accident, and the only safe place seems a rundown mansion deep in the San Juans and owned by his late great uncle. There, Tyler gets sacked by the sassy redhead next door. It’s more alive than he’s felt in years.
Lavender Mead has a good reason to dislike jocks, namely an absentee father who deserted the family to coach college football. Maybe that explains her penchant for bad boys who play ball for a living and break hearts for a hobby. Her new neighbor seems just the type. Yet, something is different about Tyler, and sometimes love requires a Hail Mary. You draw back your arm, pray…and give it all up to fate. And sometimes you win your ring.

The economic strain hits home, forcing two rival schools to merge on neutral ground. Emanuella "LL" Harvey knows it's only a matter of time before students start dropping like pants on prom night. Her brother and Parkour tribe want her to fall in line and unite behind their claim for top spot, but she's fallen in love with her brother's biggest enemy--because apparently, she's suicidal like that.
Graffiti crew leader Brennan "Haze" Craig claims he has no interest in gang violence or "writer" infamy...he just wants to be with her.
