Kristin's In The House

There's a new movie out starring Kristin Scott Thomas - always a cause for celebration in my book.

She recently came up with a really interesting theory about why sub-titled films are gaining in popularity...

Happy Holidays

Sightseers, one of my favourite films of last year, is just out on DVD. This weird tale about caravanning and killing shares a lot with Nuts In May, Mike Leigh's hilarious camping comedy from the 70s - what a great double bill...

Film Club: Sunshine

Danny Boyle's new film Trance is released next week. What better time to revisit his most misunderstood and underrated film - the brilliant Sunshine.

I posted recently asking you for your favourite bad film reviews and why we sometimes laugh out of context during movies. Here are some of my favourite responses.

Teenage Kicks

There's a terrific new movie out later this month called Good Vibrations. It tells the story of Terri Hooley - the man who discovered The Undertones and their single Teenage Kicks -  arguably one of the greatest pop records ever recorded.

No Laughing Matter

Do you ever find yourself laughing during a film when you shouldn't be? When does this happen and why?

Killer Critics

There is an idea that the best film reviews are the ones that stick the knife in pithiliy, wittily and without mercy. What are your favourite deadly one liners and why?

Movie Heaven

Last night I introduced a special screening of the Jean Cocteau classic La Belle et la Bete on 35mm at my favourite cinema in the UK - I was truly in movie heaven.

Slices Of Pi

There was a protest by visual effects artists going on outside this year's Academy Awards ceremony. But what were they demonstrating about and do they have a point?
