The final, brilliant word on passive voice.

“She was killed [by zombies.]”

“Zombies killed [by zombies] her.”

This is legit one of the best ways to identify passive voice.

“Let me be a builder of

gargoyles.

Let me learn to create

guardian monsters,

let me hew grotesque

words from rough,

savage stone.

Let me give up perfection,

let each unique, imbalanced

form I shape

be a true

reflection of my soul.

Let my works fly

and let them be grounded

in the earth.

Let my words

be more than decoration,

let them

provide protection

and imperfection

and a place for the rain

to overflow.

Let me reveal a heart

savage and flawed

and generous,

let me spark and share

light in the soul.”

-

Gargoyles

John Ruskin’s “The Nature of Gothic”)
