Inspiration is Everywhere

Because 2021 had been an especially troubling year for Brian and me on a personal level, we decided at the first feasible opportunity in 2022 to take a much-needed vacation. We had planned to go to London in December 2021, but at the advice of Brian’s doctors we decided to postpone. However, we still had vouchers for both our plane tickets and our Hamilton tickets at the Queen Victoria Theater in...

Review of 2021, and looking forward to 2022

I realize it has been awhile since my latest post, but my life, like that of many of you has been full of ups and downs over the past several months and keeping current on my blog somehow was not a top priority. The year was filled with the biggest highs I have had in my life countered with some of the biggest or scariest lows. It has only been very recently that I have come to truly appreciate...

Auf Wiedersehen, Madame Chancellor

Earlier this week, Merkel boarded a plane for Washington for her final official For the 1 st time in over four years I was actually excited instead of frightened to watch the press conference between Chancellor Merkel and President Biden. In the hours leading up to it, I found myself getting excited and wondering if they would have the same rapport as Merkel had had with President Obama.

2021 G7 SUMMIT IN CORNWALL: THE US IS BACK

I apologize for my absence the past few months things on the home front have been quite chaotic and exciting. I have important news to share since my last post, I have secured a publisher for both the English and German editions of the manuscript as well as a job change for my husband which will result in a move from our small Bavarian city to the international capital of Berlin.

Black History Month: A Perspective by a white woman

As both a social justice advocate and an author, I am continuously looking for ways to both expand my audience as well as to educate them. Because I grew up in a politically active family and one of the first stories I remember both my mother and my grandfather told me was the time an African American saved my grandfather’s life. My grandfather lived in rural Minnesota, and when he was 13 years...

A Sad Day for American Democracy

There are 5 instances in my life that I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when they occurred–the Iran hostage crisis in 1979, the Challenger Space Shuttle Explosion in 1986, the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and now insurgents attempting to overturn American Democracy in 2021. On Wednesday, January 6th, 2021 I watched with horror the...

Our Work Is Not Over on January 20, 2021

Feature on TeachSomebody, 28 October 2020 As a lifelong political activist, I find 99% of Trump’s policies and actions abhorrent. There is no question that both the domestic and foreign policies implemented by the Trump administration over the past four years have challenged the U.S. Constitution and the democratic principles upon which the country had been founded. Nevertheless...

Why this election is so important to me, a first time voter:

Think back to the first time you voted in a presidential election. What was it like? Did you vote in person? What was going on in the world at that time? People argue that the 2020 election is the election of a lifetime. Being eligible to exercise my right to vote for the first time is a big deal to me– especially while being abroad, during a pandemic, and with an administration that seems to be...
