Signing at ALA Midwinter!
And here are a few photos of my signing at ALA Midwinter. What a blast! The Blink, Zondervan team were rock stars. Seriously. I have no pics of me actually signing because I was too busy signing! Ha! 300 ARCS flew out of the booth. Plus there was an interview with the ALA Videographer and a snapshot taken for Librarian Wardrobe.
It was fabulous seeing all the YALSA Teens, librarians, and bloggers and their enthusiasm for Firstborn. I'm so thankful for the opportunity, and that I was blessed with health!

Gorgeous, yes? Take flight, Firstborn!

Living with Lupus: Traveling to ALA Midwinter!

So I haven't run a lupus update for a bit. After the 8 month flare of 2013, I seem to only be having 3 day experiences now. They still take me by surprise when they hit. When they do, I try to gather words to describe the sensation, but it's hard to convey. Yet, when it's here, there's no doubt. Here goes: it feels like the flu, with a migraine, as if I weigh 500 lbs, and I'm moving through quicksand. The light hurts, and basically I want to get to the dark. Like a bat. Or a mole. Or a naked mole rat. :~)
Those are the facts as I prepare to hit ALA Midwinter tomorrow through Sunday. For non-librarian types, this is the winter gathering of librarians from around the country to network, inspire, and celebrate books. My signing is in the Blink booth, #737, on Saturday morning at 9:30. Please stop in and say hey! There will be ARCs of Firstborn and rgz frippery, while they last. I hope to see you, and that lupus doesn't make an appearance. Look for my hat!

Family Fiction: The idea for FIRSTBORN

So happy to share the interview about Firstborn that Family Fiction ran through the month of December. The questions were awesome. Here's just one, otherwise follow the link...
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA?
Firstborn sprang from a news article I read concerning gendercide. I was horrified to learn that over 37 million girls are missing in China alone, due to the One Child Policy enacted in 1980. The work of All Girls Allowed and the Global Gendercide Advocacy and Alliance Group provided further chilling information regarding the killing of females at birth. My anger brought my novel to form. I wanted to write a fiction work to bring light to gendercide while declaring the value of our daughters. The dedication of my book is: To firstborn females, may they all be allowed to live.
