Hmmph

OK, so kind of a bummer start to the tour, but no doubt sunnier parts of the Internet await. Looking forward to some of the interviews.

So, I guess if you are sitting at home tomorrow night and are completely bored, and all your TV channels are out (except one) and your iPad has run down and your dog has wandered off, you might want to watch this.

Or, you could perhaps spend your time much more wisely and read this instead. Seriously, the Discovery Channel has become one of the slackest things on TV. They once hosted a "documentary" about vampires vs. werewolves that was, of course, tied to the release of one of those Underworld movies. Sad.

I think the same company owns Discovery Channel, what used to be called The Learning Channel and History Channel, all of which mostly air junk, especially now that History seems to have run out of things to say about World War II.

This little cartoon says it best, I think. Anyway, don't watch zombie crap on TV. Read about zombies instead, particularly sexy ones such as featured in "Mama Lona's Man!"

This study is shocking, shocking, I say.

Basically, James Bond movies have gotten more violent over time, although it's not quite as linear as you might think, and apparently Pierce Brosnan was the most violent of all.

I remember the earlier movies as being travelogues to exotic places as much as they were about action, maybe more so. Jamaica had a starring role in "Dr. No," and I have been to Udaipur, India, the setting for "Octopussy," and if you go to the right bar they play the movie every night.

So why I am rattling on about James Bond on a zombie romance blog? More about that in the next post.

Somewhat excited by the season finale of The Walking Dead ... best to get shambling, flesh-eating zombies out of the way before Christmas really kicks in.

Also, wanted to note this book I came across, which I think is similar in tone to "Mama Lona's Man" ...

These logos are pretty funny ... although, honestly, the sidebar ads are even funnier, and I don't think they're supposed to be.

This is another book that kinda sorta includes the type of zombie in my novel ... not really, but closer than the body-eating types on "The Walking Dead" and similar shows and movies.

But, I have a confession to make ... I haven't read it. I should, though. Haven't seem the movie, either, although it strikes me as being a bit less scholarly than the book.

Anyway, the book I'm jabbering about is here.

OK, here's another ancestor of Mama Lona's Man, one that I probably haven't seen since I was nine years old (trust me, that has been a while). It's the "Zombie" episode of "The Night Stalker," which I loved as a kid even though it ran out of steam pretty quickly. However, it did go on to inspire "The X Files," so that's good.

The interesting thing, for me, is that this show dates to 1974, meaning it came out after Romero's "Night of the Living Dead," but it wasn't based on his flesh-eating creatures. It was instead a reference to the classical Haitian zombie.

According to TV.com, in this episode, "A voodoo priestess animates her dead son to take revenge on the gangsters that killed him." Now, that's not what happens in my book, but the plotline is not entirely dissimilar ... it just took a while for that idea to percolate through my brain and into the storyline, I guess.

Anyway, you can watch the whole thing here.
