Ed Peters on Women Priests

My friend and Canon Lawyer Ed Peters writes:

Care to see just how many errors one AFP article on "women priests" can contain? Check it out my Dissection of Baloney Journalism, here: http://canonlawblog.blogspot.com/2010/10/dissection-of-baloney-journalism.html.

It's got me seeing red!

Will the Real Jesus Please Stand Up?

Jesus.bmpIf you haven't purchased the United States Bishops' little booklet entitled The Authentic Jesus: Catholic Belief versus Modern Fiction, then I recommend you go to the USCCB website and purchase a few copies along with their DVD.

This booklet takes 20 minutes to read but it is an EXCELLENT short rebuttal to the DaVinci Code and a nice review of what we believe about Jesus and the Gospels. Click on the image of the book.

Granddaughter Bella Says Good-bye

IMG_1780It is always hard to leave home, our four kids and our eight grandchildren.

We just left for over five weeks to lead two groups through the Holy Land and another along the footprints of St. Paul on a Mediterranean cruise.

Click here for more info, and watch this blog for daily videos.

So here Bella and I say "Good-bye" to each other. I hope she remembers me when I get home!

Bishop Refuses Eucharist to Gay Activists

screen-captureSupport Archbishop John Nienstedt who is now under attack for doing the right thing.

Just a few days ago, homosexual activists wearing rainbow sashes and buttons attempted to receive Holy Communion from him during Mass. The activists even bragged: "We were making a statement during the Eucharist."

His Excellency stood firm, blessed them, but charitably denied them the Eucharist.

I Voted Today

We had to vote today since we will be leading a bunch of pilgrims on a cruise following St. Paul (still a few cabins left :-)

Our vote was intended to emphasize Nobama! and to eliminate all those who think like him.

Less government, less taxes, pro-Life, pro-marriage, good national defense, less entitlements.

Make sure to vote. My whole family is anxious to vote Nobama, no big spending, no abortion, etc.

Award for Downhill…

American Lindsey Vonn has to Forfeit her Gold Medal

The International Olympic Committee announced today that it has taken back the gold medal previously awarded to American skier Lindsey Vonn and given it to U.S. President Barack Obama.

Olympic officials said Obama deserved the medal more than Vonn because no one has ever gone downhill faster than he has.

Catholic Answers Live – "Are You Saved?"

Tonight I was on Catholic Answers Live. The topic was "Brother, Are You Saved?" Listen at www.Catholic.com. For more info, click here. The link to listen to the archived show on line is here.

One comment on my Facebook.com/JerusalemJones page:

"Good stuff on CA's. But Steve….I don't know how you do it. If I hear one more Protestant claim a patent on the blood of Christ, I'm gonna spit…….it's time to stop the madness of accepting man made traditions such as "faith alone", and start actually reading the scriptures……ALL OF THEM."

sray_crossingtiber_lgHere are the questions I answered in this episode of Catholic Answers Live. It was a very lively discussion with some argument, some disagreement but also charity and honest discussion. It was fun! We are talking about "Brother, Are you Saved?" Part II.

Questions answered tonight on Catholic Answers Live

- How do you justify or explain the Bread of Life Discourse, that we much eat the Flesh and Blood of Jesus to have eternal life? If this is true, how can a non-Catholic Christian get to heaven?

- Can anyone know for sure they are saved?

- Arthur said, "I know I am saved because I truly repented of my sins, and because Jesus died for me and compels me to live a holy life. What do you think?

- I rejected the Catholic Church as I was growing up and now I am starting to read the Bible again but find things hard to understand and accept. Can you offer any help?

- Did you have a conversion experience before you became Catholic? How do you explain it and do you think you were saved?

- How did the Old Testament covenants work? How were people saved in the Old Testament before the coming of Jesus Christ?

- How can you say works are involved when we are saved by faith. Do you put too much emphasis on works?

At one point I quoted from page 100 of my book Crossing the Tiber where I provided a list of items necessary for salvation. Below is a copy of that page. To buy the book, visit here.

Fr. Spitzer Debates Atheism on Larry King

screen-capture

On September 10, Fr. Spitzer was invited to appear on Larry King Live to provide an opposing viewpoint to the claim put forth in Stephen Hawking's latest controversial work, The Grand Design, that "no God is required" to explain the creation of the universe. (Click image for article and video)

Dr. Hawking appeared earlier in the same program, while Fr. Spitzer, Hawking's coauthor Leonard Mlodinow, and writer Deepak Chopra were invited to debate the topic, "Did God Create the Universe?"

A video of that portion of the show is embedded below. If you're primarily interested in seeing Fr. Spitzer's comments, you can find them at the very start of the video and at 4:53 … 9:30 … 12:40 … 17:01 … 19:50 … and 22:28. Placing your cursor over the black box at the bottom of the video frame will bring the scroll bar into view.

Obama's Christianity Disconnect

200Obama moved by Jesus, Abortion

President says Christ is behind his public policy

President Obama invoked the teachings of Christ last week as the inspiration for his public agenda, which he called part of an "effort to express my Christian faith," and in his next breath defended the legalized killing of unborn children. Read more.

Obama omits "Creator" again in Declaration.
