Dear Theresa,

Thank you for the kind inquiry. There is a new Nick LaBounty book coming out in the August / September timeframe. A teaser for the forthcoming Black Tides:

A quest to solve the secret of a legendary lost colony, a search for a fabled pirate treasure. Two mysteries that intertwine with shocking revelations for those seeking to uncover the truth…

In 1717 a young boy cast his lot with the marauding crew of an infamous pirate on the rise. He bears witness and comes of age in a time that will be known to history as The Golden Age of Piracy. His mentor is none other than Edward Teach, more infamously known as Blackbeard. He is a cruel and unforgiving man who recognizes no flag but his own, who will go to any length to plunder and wreak vengeance upon his enemies. Both real and perceived. He leaves behind rumors of a priceless treasure, never proven nor found. But the boy knows, if only he can survive to tell the tale.

While vacationing on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, renowned archeologist Nick LaBounty finds himself inexorably drawn to the enigma of the Lost Colony of Roanoke. Left to fend for themselves in 1587, 120 colonists, including Virginia Dare, the first English child born in the New World, disappear with only a single clue left behind. The word Croatoan, carved into a post of the deserted stockade, will be found in 1590 by her supposed rescuers and grieving grandfather.

Investigating the oldest missing persons case ever in the United States, Nick finds the fate of the Lost Colony inextricably linked to another unsolved mystery that took place nearby. To only a day’s sail from the stockade of the colonists, to where Blackbeard and his brethren hid among the barrier islands and inlets to pillage upon unsuspecting prey. To where the feared pirate ultimately met his demise, taking the mystery of his fabulous treasure to the grave with him. To a place that would forever be shrouded in mystery and lore. To Ocracoke Island.

Caught up in the rapidly converging mysteries, Nick, with the help of his brother and Native American muse, along with an unlikely ally in the person of a bitter old sailor, seeks to bring the secrets of the past to light. To uncover the fate of both the lost colonists and of Blackbeard’s legendary lost treasure.

I enjoy seeing how other cultures live, love to learn about their history, and especially like to experience their people, food, art and music. There are so many interesting tales of things that have really happened in each culture, it doesn’t take much to inspire me to put a spin on it to craft an interesting tale.(less)
