"There was a wall in him that no one reached. Not even Clara, though she assumed it had deformed him. A tiny stone swallowed years back that had grown with him and which he carried around because he could not shed it. His motive for hiding it had probably extinguished itself years earlier. . . . Patrick and his small unimportant stone. It had entered him at the wrong time in his life. Then it had been a flint of terror. He could have easily turned aside at the age of seven or twenty, and just spat it out and kept on walking, and forgotten it by the next street corner.
"So we are built."

They're sellin you shit in multispheres now, and they are...
They're sellin you shit in multispheres now, and they are people
They have hands and sit around there and click and say the things
It's cold in Atlanta again tonight from some weird shit of wind
We didn't get hit by shit, we were supposed to get hit again like hits come
There are ten books on my desk I want to read virally, I bought the biggest bottle of gin I've ever had to myself
I keep just saying "books" out loud in little rooms where I'm around with me
They're selling you things, and when they're not you have to assume they are because they probably are whether they mean to be or not because things get sold and you live with it and food keeps happening and music these days is free is you want, the rest is to come
My neighbor hates me because she asked if her dog makes noise and it does and I said it did and she went home and bought a machine that squirts the dog in the face when it tries to do noise and it stopped making noise and now she doesn't either
I think about her hearing my own junk when I watch porn on my laptop out loud
It comes and goes
There isn't a lot of bass to be heard through macbook speakers, they are tinny and small
Music is free, I keep thinking about thinking about when the phrase "remember when people made music?" will be a thing that is said
What is happening to the internet
Things change faster than there is to see the changing
I have a a new rug and an old coffee table that I hadn't had here for a while and the house feels new, the cup is sweating on the black surface, I have no idea where the cup came from
The laptop heats up so hot when it's plugged in it's like you can't even hold it
Books are everywhere, kids are going to learn not to hold them and they will hold the computer, we will be old or dead by then, what's the difference
I think you got younger last week
I had a feeling when I started typing and now I just want to eat
They have hands and sit around there and click and say the things

There is No Year drops today
Seems wild to already be at April 5 2011, but here we are.
There is No Year is available widely, including online at several places found here.
Amazon has it for like less than $9, and there are the brick stores that are alive.

An immense honor to have blurbs from two of my favorite writers of all time:
"If there's a more thoroughly brilliant and exciting new writer than Blake Butler, . . . well, there just isn't. I've literally lost sleep imagining the fallout when There Is No Year drops and American fiction shifts its axis."
— Dennis Cooper
"Blake Butler, mastermind and visionary, has sneaked up and drugged the American novel. What stumbles awake in the aftermath is feral and awesome in its power, a fairy tale of an ordinary family subjected to the strange, lonesome agony known as daily life. There is No Year is a merciless novel cleansed of joy, pumped full of fear and awe."
— Ben Marcus
Thanks again to all who've done so much for me and continue to do so much. I couldn't feel happier.
I hope you'll check out the book if you feel it.
