Me making a sourdough...

I did research on how to make a bread for my story "Rising Terror" (included with "Cryovacked")... in that tale, a sourdough nearly brings about the end of the universe!

A sourdough's no ordinary bread, by the way. It requires you to make your own starter culture... rather than buying commercial yeast. So, it's pretty tricky. You could say it's the elite of break-making.

Now you can see my first (and possibly only) attempt at making my own sourdough. Anyhow, I’m a writer darn it, not a baker!

The John Smistad Show, ep 7

If you’re curious to see me blabber on about apparently unrelated topics such as sourdough baking, Andy Weir, Einstein’s theory of Relativity, Steve McQueen, and the Inuit… take a look at The John Smistad Show, episode 7:

My thanks go out to John Smistad, Daniel Scott White and the whole Mythaxis gang, which is an amazing hub of artists.

Cryovacked

The newest book from The Galactic Culinary Society is finally here!

This is a stand-alone story, so if you’re still unfamiliar with the GCS (the first book reached #4 on Amazon), it’s the perfect time to jump in.

In Cryovacked, the stakes have never been higher. Chef Hunter Jeane Oberon, with her alien pal Xstersi, become captives on an ancient starship they’re sent to explore—when it turns into a deep space death-trap. If they don’t escape in time? They’ll be slowly cooked alive over the next five hundred years! What's the mystery behind Cryovacked? You'll have to read it to find out!

Plus, it includes the bonus story Rising Terror. I spoke at length to Andy Weir, author of the Martian, about the science in this story, and also Seamus Blackley, inventor of the Xbox… AND sourdough expert (in this tale, a sourdough just might bring about the end of the universe). Seamus was kind enough to read it and consult on the details. He said it’s VERY entertaining!

And you can get it FREE Sept 14-18. So don’t miss out!

Rapid Transmission: Q & A about the Galactic Culinary Society

Here's a fun Q & A I did with Joseph Hurtgen, Editor-in-Chief of Rapid Transmission which, to quote: "provides analysis and critique of science fiction and other cultural texts". Soya milk is also mentioned!

GCS contest: guess who!

We used a model for the covers in the Galactic Culinary Society… but she isn’t real! It’s a mash-up of two celebrities.

Anyone who guesses correctly (both celebrities) will win a free copy of Song of the Golden Brew. The only hint I’ll give is that one of them is Canadian.

I’ll post the answer on June 23rd, so you have until then!

THE SONG

This is the SONG that inspired my story "Song of the Golden Brew". I recorded it when I visited Xinjiang, the Uighur Autonomous Region in China. You can see the video here:

And the story it led to, here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08VF4PTP1
(yes, it's a satire)
