On the peaceful gulf coast of Florida, Shimrit Hanes crafts science fiction narratives that weave survival wisdom into a futuristic world. Her characters grow by learning to stand strong through hardship. A lesson she's learned from her own life.

When not immersed in her fictional universe, Shimrit can be found tending to her acre of homestead land, coaxing vegetables from Florida sand, or formatting books for fellow authors. The jewelry she creates, like her stories, combine raw elements into something both beautiful and meaningful.

After chronic fatigue curtailed her music ministry, she found herself adrift, seeking God for purpose. Inspiration struck while encouraging her three eldest daughters in their own writing journeys. What began as

I'm planning to title it The Migration, but the last title changed, so we'll see.
We left our stowaways in book two, reeling at the news of a consequence of their wild and fun adventure. In book three they wake up the morning after this news and their leader, Daxton, is depressed. They have a lot to learn and much to deal with. They must get the training via 3-D vids, that they missed by not participating in the year of colonist training in Oregon. The colonists are people of faith and all the stowaways except Serena, are not. Can they hope to fit in?
I'm having as much fun writing this one as I did the other two. I'm looking forward to their reactions when they land, and have to learn to work with the other colonists. How will four students of computer engineering, A Texas redneck, a consummate gamer, and a girl who loves cos-play adjust to living in a farming, and craftsman/tradesman, and home manufacturing community?(less)

You won't have a feel for good writing if you don't instinctively know what good writing is, and that instinct is built by reading. Then just write. Read what you've written aloud and fix it. Set it aside and then read it to yourself and fix it. Read it aloud to someone else and--you've got it--fix it. Get a good editing program, I use ProWritingAid, and use it to help you refine each chapter. Take out anything that drags or interrupts the storyline.
I did this with my first book for three years. Most authors will tell you, "Never publish your first book." There is some wisdom to that, but everyone is different and if you are willing to take constructive criticism from other authors as I did, and rewrote book 1 yet again. You may be able to release that first book, as I did. But I don't recommend that. It's better to write another one and then go back and read that first one to see if it's really worth rewriting yet again, because you will have to.
The hardest part is launching your book and then doing the follow-up advertising you need to do to get enough readers to make a living. Join a writer's group and search online for ideas, book-swaps (to help you get those reviews you need so badly) and author give-aways that are becoming so popular to get your book out there.
If your book is well-written, engaging, and enjoyable, you'll get readers who become fans. They'll help you get the word out as you release new books.(less)

New Book Release, Training Ground - May 16, 2026

Part two of my updated 'Dreamers' trilogy 'Training Ground' is due to release May 16th!

In this novel, Antonia still hasn't decided whether to go to Terra Nova, or stay on Earth and start a new life in Portland, Oregon. She's terrified of the possibility that this new world might hold horrors she's not willing to face, but she love's the colonists and the longer she stays on the training ground the Read more of this blog post »
