Excerpt:

Take some time to look at your traps and what’s limiting you. Maybe there are certain ways that you talk to your spouse, parent your kids, or spend your money simply because that’s the way you’ve always done it—because you believe that’s how it should be done. Here’s the question you need to ask yourself: What would the payoff be if I changed the way I do something? There’s always a payoff—and if it’s attractive enough, if it’s important enough to you, if it means enough to you—you can push through the pain to the reward. And it starts with a decision.

No Stone Unturned book cover image

Her new book is entitled:

No Stone Unturned: How My Special Needs Child and I Transformed Against All Odds

Description:

ATTENTION: Parents of Special Needs Children

Imagine if you could help your special needs child discover his/her highest potential while healing your own frustration, burnout, and fear of the future.

No Stone Unturned: How My Special Needs Child and I Transformed Against All Odds is a 35-year odyssey exploring a multitude of health and healing modalities. When Debra was given a severe prognosis of her son’s future, she quickly discovered that combining both conventional and non-conventional methods from other cultures, centuries, and belief systems were the answers that held the key to unlocking the unused portion of his brain.

In the process, her son discovered his purpose for surviving and healed in miraculous ways. His mom Debra also changed in the process and discovered her purpose as well. Together they moved from fear and impossibility to freedom. This is more than just a story of transformation. It is a memoir of a regular mom and her special needs kid who shares her intimate story of struggle and triumph in order to teach others how they did it.

This is an invitation to explore another way of coping and interpreting your experience. If you are ready to learn that your mind, thoughts, and intention are more powerful than you could ever imagine and that you truly do hold all your answers within, then this book is for you. It will hopefully provide hope and encouragement to explore the ocean of possibilities waiting to be discovered and experienced.

My Top Five Christmas Carols of All Time

I’m sitting here at my desk, listening to Christmas music as I write this. The music fills me with precious Christmas memories from my childhood. Here are my top five favorite carols.

Number 1: “Away in A Manger”. My reasons for picking this Carol as one of my all-time favorites are as follows: It tells the story of the birth of Jesus. I have fond memories of singing this carol in church and in school Christmas programs during my childhood. I also love this carol, because many of the children’s Christmas books and toys have a recording of it. For example, Mama bought a book for the kids that had a recording of a kid singing Away in a Manger that played when you pressed the button on the upper right-hand corner. Another place I heard this was on a stuffed bear that had an ink pen sized scanner in one hand and a board book in the other. As you slid the scanner across each page, the Christmas story was read in a British child’s voice. On the last page, after the story was read, the voice invited you to sing along as she sang Away in a Manger.

Number 2: “What Child is This”. This carol is another beautiful song about the birth of Jesus. On a side note, I’ll be singing this as a solo in our church Christmas program next Sunday morning. One of my favorite childhood memories of this carol is of me rocking one of my many dolls or stuffed animals while singing along with the Christmas tape I nearly wore out, before I received my first transistor radio. I also used to listen to a couple of Christmas records my mother had and rocked my dolls to many of the carols. If I remember correctly, “What Child is This” was on that record also.

Number 3: “Sleigh Ride” is another carol with fun memories, like the unforgettable time I went with my roommate and a lady who taught her Sunday School to a performance of the Living Christmas Tree at the church near my school. We were seated in the pews listening to the beautiful music, when the orchestra started playing “Sleigh Ride”. I felt as though I were on a sleigh riding through the snow. This was my first experience of being able to feel music. When I hear that song on the radio, I sit back and close my eyes, to try to capture that feeling again.

Number 4: “White Christmas”. I live in an area where we don’t see much snow, so the song makes me always dream of having a white Christmas of my own, even if I have to use my imagination to see it for myself. The song also takes me back to times when my family went into town to see the Christmas lights around the stores.

Number 5: This is not a traditional Christmas song that I’ve ever sung in church or school, but there’s a song on a cassette tape my parents got me years ago, which is more of a winter song, but I’ve heard it played at Christmas time, throughout my life. The song is called “Suzie Snowflake”. I loved this song as a kid, because it made me imagine going out in the snow, playing and having fun with a magical snowflake. I was actually inspired to write a Christmas fantasy story based on this carol. I think this song is the perfect inspiration for a Children’s Christmas picture book.

Now it’s your turn. What are your top five favorite Christmas carols and why do you love them so much? Feel free to let me know in the comments below, or share them in your own blog post. If you use this post is inspiration for one of your own, please be sure to tag me, so I can hear the stories behind your favorite Christmas songs. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy, safe and prosperous New Year.

Blessings,

Ann

MORE ABOUT GUEST NARRATORS Lillian Yves and Vincent Lee Grayson…

LEEANNE ROWE/ LILLIAN YVES  Originally from Oklahoma, and a graduate of AMDA in NYC, LeeAnne eventually made her way to SoCal. She likes to say she is from the East, West, and somewhere in the middle. She is a #1 best selling narrator on Amazon, an after school Drama teacher for the LAUSD and has been performing around California for over 15 years. She is a published author, co-writing novels under the name LeeAnne Hansen and a children’s book, All Things I can do under Lilly Rowe.

GRAYDON SCHLICHTER/VINCENT LEE GRAYSON  Graydon boldly declared at the age of five that he would “make Books on Tape” someday.  Five year old Graydon would be very pleased to see that grown up(ish) Graydon has made good on the vow.  Partnering with Lilly might be a bit more distressing to the lad since the younger version knew for a fact that “girls have cooties!” Still, a sacrifice worth making in the name of art! Although a stage actor and sound designer, for now those passions are on hold, all the better to focus on audiobooks.

Today’s featured book is entitled:

The Spirit of Creativity: Inspirational Poems for the Creative at Heart

Written by Ann Harrison

Description:

Ann Harrison’s first book of poems delve into her creative journey, given to her by the Holy Spirit. The first section, entitled A Writers Life, covers her journey from writer to creative dreamer, until she blooms into a published author.

The second section, entitled Seaside Poems, will take you on a walk along the seashore, where the Holy Spirit and your muse awaits to fill your heart and mind with inspiration, pulling you out of your creative slump. Allow the Holy Spirit to help you fill page after page with words, pictures or fill your hands with whatever creative task you strive to undertake, as you read these verses, which come straight from the author’s heart.

The third and final section entitled Poems from the Heart, describes the journey of a lost soul as he gives his heart to Jesus and finds a new beginning. Others describe a narrator’s sorrowful tears melting into joyful music and singing. Some of these verses touch on the author’s spiritual walk with the Lord and the music God has placed within her soul. Open your heart and let your mind wander as the Holy Spirit speaks to you through each verse within these pages.

An update and a poem for your enjoyment

Hello everyone in the blogosphere, I know it’s been awhile since I last posted, so I wanted to check in with everyone and update you on my writing progress.

First of all, let me say that I’ve had a very busy NaNoWriMo this month. Although I started drafting the story, I originally called Inner Vision, which is now The Body in the Dorm Advisor’s office, I went back and started planning my novel using the Snowflake method. If you haven’t heard of this book, I encourage you to at least read it for the story Randy Ingermanson tells, whether the method works for you or not. If you’re unable to afford the book or find it in your local library, yet you’d like to try this method to plot your novel, you can download Chapters 19 and 20 of How to Write a Novel Using the Snowflake Method as a free PDF file. I’ve also started doing a series on my YouTube channel and my podcast, where I walk you through each step of the Snowflake Method, giving you examples of my own work along the way. Please note, no spoilers!

As a way to say thanks for hanging in there with me as I plan and restructure my novel, I’ve included a poem I wrote a few weeks ago entitled Storm Winds. If you like this poem, you’ll love the poems I’ve written in my book entitled The Spirit of Creativity: Inspirational Poems for the creative at heart. You can get the eBook at your favorite online retailor by visiting this Universal Link. I’ll let you know as soon as the audiobook comes out. Before I share my poem with you, I’d like to remind you to sign up for my newsletter so you can receive updates on my author journey and be notified of new releases. I’ll also send you a free short story or a free code for my book on Audible when it becomes available. Happy reading and God bless.

Hugs,

Ann

Storm Winds

Storm winds blow

On a windy Saturday morning

Storm winds blow

As a new day is dawning.

Will the storm clouds hide the sunshine we seek

Or will the bright sunshine through the storm clouds peek?

On this beautiful windy day.

Even though the storm winds blow,

The sunshine drives the clouds away.
