Spa Day…

Since we got up late that Sunday morning, so we had our church services in our Plieningen apartment. We listened to worship music and three messages: two by our old pastor at Calvary Chapel and one by a pastor from a church in Vacaville, California. Afterward, we prayed for our country, friends, and family.

After church, we had lunch and then went to a spa in Beuren, which was about thirty kilometers away from where we lived.

It was a unique and interesting experience. We found the place with no...

The Ark Encounter

For the past couple of years, my husband has wanted to travel to Kentucky to see the life-size Ark. While I thought it would be fun to do, I hadn’t been able to commit to any time because of my mother’s illness several states away.

When the time finally came, I wasn’t looking forward to the eight plus hour drive after making two eight hour trips every month for the past year to handle my mother’s personal affairs after she passed.

When my husband said it was time and he wanted to go, I recommend...

Good Friday…

Good Friday is the holiest day of the year in the Christian calendar. It is a day of remembrance and… a day of sorrow. But it’s also a day that we, as humans, are reconciled to our Lord and Savior.

From the beginning of the Bible in Genesis through to Revelation, the entire story, His story, is revealed.

God the Father knew man would sin before He created the universe. So, it wasn’t a surprise to Him when man fell in the garden in Genesis 3. Throughout the Bible, we see God’s plan of salvation i...

Disabilities…

Disabilities.

It’s a word that means different things to different people. Some disabilities are seen, and some are unseen. Some are mental and some are physical. Even terrible scars can be a disability.

I first noticed disabilities when I read a romance many years ago and the male character had something wrong with his hand. I don’t really remember the female character, the setting or even the story line, but I vividly remember the male character. The author wrote the character in such a way t...

New Year’s Goals and Resolutions, Anyone?

A look back at 2021

It was a stressful, agonizing year. In March, an ambulance took my mother to the hospital and then later to a rehab facility. Sadly, she could no longer stay in the home she’d been in for seventeen years, so rehab transferred her to a long-term care facility. And we knew it was the final stop.

Life is a vapor. It passes by so quickly. And it was never clearer to me than this year.

From April until September, I traveled to my mother’s condo eight hours away and spent two weeks...

Jesus…

Every year I want to write a Christmas post, but I’ve always had way too much to do to prepare for the holidays… baking, shopping, wrapping, decorating (I LOVE to decorate my entire house) and traveling to visit family.

But this year, I’ve had to forgo two of my favorite things to do at Christmas time: decorating and baking.

My husband convinced me to at least put up the Christmas tree even if I didn’t decorate every room in the house as in previous years. So, I agreed and only put up the tree w...

A Blessing in Disguise…

Sunday. A time of worship and church. And we were late. We were both ready at our usual departure time, but my husband was called on a case for his company. I had resigned myself to watch the service from my living room chair even though I wanted to be there in person.

As luck would have it… well, it really wasn’t luck because God knew both of us needed to be there, so luck wasn’t a factor.

We missed part of the worship segment of the service, but not all of it. And I was truly thankful to have ...

Memorial Day Observance

When we lived in Germany, we took a road trip to Paris. It was Memorial Day weekend. What surprised us was how disconnected we felt from the “holiday” because the Europeans do not celebrate the day. And why would they? It’s an American holiday. We were given the last Monday in May off because my husband worked for an American company in Germany. Since the company did work for the military, they observed the holiday as well.

While in Paris, on that Memorial Day Sunday, we visited the Arc de Triom...

Mother’s Day 2021

Wishing every mother and/or grandmother who reads this blog post a very Happy Mother’s Day.

My mother, who turns 92 in June (exactly one week after my birthday), has been slowly deteriorating.

She has been housebound for several years. With my brother wheelchair bound and me a day’s drive away, we had a caregiver who went to her place twice a day to ensure she ate, got her medication and ensured her physical needs were met. The rest of the time she was all alone. And that bothered me.

But mental...

He is Risen!

This week marks the holiest week of the Christian calendar. Passion week begins with Palm Sunday and ends with Resurrection Sunday.

Over the years, there have been many films depicting the life and crucifixion of Jesus. Two of the most recent films are Franco Zefferelli’s Jesus of Nazareth, which was originally shown on television during Holy Week in the late 1970s, and more recently Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ.

When I first saw Jesus of Nazareth back in the day, I remember how it ...
