Wisteria Witches

Give me a quirky character who says things at inappropriate times, and I’m in like Flynn. That’s what I got with the main character of Wisteria Witches.

I was the kid who’d rather have been a secret agent than do homework. My grandma was the unsung hero who fueled my sugar addiction with those early morning cinnamon roll rescues. Don’t get me wrong, I loved her to pieces, but those cinnamon rolls were like gold. My overactive imagination would turn her late nights into a high-stakes drama, complete with hostage negotiations and a daring rescue. I was the teenage mastermind behind it all, of course, complete with a mental dossier on every suspicious character in town. Yeah, I know, I was a weird kid.

Let’s not forget the obligatory swoon-worthy rescue by a mysterious, brooding stranger. Because, you know, every good rescue needs a love interest.

It’s a gift, this overactive imagination. Or a curse, depending on who you ask. I mean, who else would find the perfect comeback to a boring office meeting while staring at a stapler? My inner monologue is a constant battle between witty and inappropriate.

But hey, weird is the new black, right? And this book? It’s like discovering a kindred spirit. I’m convinced this author and I were separated at birth. So, here’s to embracing the quirky, the strange, and the downright bonkers. Because, as they say, a little weird never hurt nobody.

Wisteria Witches Book Review

Wisteria Witches by Angela Pepper

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is like a cozy spellbinding potion with equal parts Charmed, Gilmore Girls, and a dash of Sabrina the Teenage Witch! I dove into this magical world headfirst, and let me tell you, it’s a delightful adventure.

When I started this book, I had no idea what bewitching brew I was about to sip, but the quirky charm of the main character cast an instant spell on me. Mix in a daughter who’s pure Gilmore Girls magic, and you have a recipe for heartwarming chaos that leaves you craving more.

Shifters, a mysterious town practically begging to be explored, and witty one-liners that had me snorting with laughter—this book has it all! It’s like a warm, fuzzy blanket with a side of intrigue. I couldn’t help but feel all giddy and light-hearted, but the sprinkle of mystery kept me on the edge of my seat.

The author has conjured up a world that’s so captivating, and I can’t wait to see where this enchanting journey takes us next. I’m already hooked, line and sinker!

The Gribble’s gift

As a little girl, I often dreamed of a fantasy land where I could escape and be truly free. In this magical place, I had friends who weren’t human, and every day was an adventure. Looking back, I realize that the world I imagined was remarkably similar to The Gribble’s Gift.

For many kids with challenging childhoods, fantasy lands offer a safe haven. I created these worlds to avoid the harshness of reality—whether it was to escape the yelling or the indifference to my excitement. These perfect worlds in my head provided a solace that reality couldn’t.

Reflecting on it now, I realize my childhood wasn’t all that bad. But living in my head, weaving tales of magic, romance, and friendship, was my way of coping with the parts of life that didn’t feel good to my heart.

Some people called me a daydreamer; others thought I was weird. But they didn’t understand that I was simply tuning out their indifference. Kids who create alternate realities to escape often face two possible futures. Some remain trapped in their fantasies, struggling to succeed in the real world. Others, like me, use their imagination as a powerful coping mechanism, enabling them to navigate hard times and lead fulfilling lives.

So, what about you? Which path has your imagination led you down?

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

To read this book is to fall in love with this world. The characters pull you in and make you want to escape inside the forest! I have wanted to read this book since I found the author, and I can say I am a fan. I am already looking forward to the next book. I have read it on my Kindle, bought it for my daughter, and ordered a signed copy for my great-niece! I recommend reading the book and following Social media to understand the care she takes with these worlds and creating them! Fantastic mind and imagination

When Bible Meets History

From as far back as I can remember, until around the age of ten, we attended church every Sunday and Wednesday. Sometimes, we would even go to people’s houses for Bible study. But when I turned ten, I moved to the city with my biological mother. Church was no more. Reading When Bible Meets History helped me understand more than I had before.

I remember feeling like the church was a burden. No one ever explained why we were going; it was just something we had to do. “Dress right, stand up straight, don’t do this, act like this, you’re going to hell if you do that, you’re not good enough”—that’s all I remember. It felt great when I didn’t have to go to church anymore because I felt judged more there than anywhere else. I felt worse being in church than when I was living my life, minding my own business.

I joined the Air Force in January 1997, and during training, I became a chapel rope, helping out at the church and even singing in the choir. (I’m glad I sang in the background because I can’t sing to save my life.) I felt welcomed, encouraged, loved, and accepted. I loved every Sunday service and the people, especially because we all wore the same clothes—our uniforms. Sunday best wasn’t a thing because it didn’t matter; we all had to wear uniforms.

When training ended and I was in the operational Air Force, I got to choose a church. But I couldn’t find one where I felt comfortable. Once again, it was that uncomfortable feeling of all eyes on you. “Where are you from? Who do you know? What are you wearing? Don’t do this, don’t do that.” The judgment was there all over again.

What did CJ do? I embraced the idea that I don’t need to be in church to be faithful. The problem was I didn’t nurture my faith anymore. I simply lived my life and didn’t pray as much as needed. I thought I had to guide my life, fix my own problems, and figure things out myself. This road was tough and had a lot of bumps I probably didn’t need to go down.

I say all this to make this point: church shouldn’t be a place of judgment but acceptance. You should be able to show up in a towel and pray, and everyone should wrap around you and give you a piece of clothing off their back if you need it.

The more you learn about faith, the less judgmental you are. The more you embrace the concepts of faith and don’t cling strictly to religion, the fuller your life becomes.

People ask me what my religion is, and I say non-denominational. When you look into the origins of religion, it all came from one place: God. I don’t believe God meant for us to fight over whose rules and laws are right. Worshiping one singular divine being offers many paths to reach them. Choose your road, but be a good human.

When Bible Meets History: Ancient Voices Tell Their Version by Stephen Lee Crane

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Have you ever wondered how the context of the Bible fits into our historical construct? How did the words from the Bible not only originate from prophets but also fit into the human world?

Growing up, I knew the Bible was considered gospel. My curiosity about faith led me to question much of what I read. I felt Jesus and God in my heart but wanted a deeper understanding of the scripture.

I drifted away from my faith because I couldn’t find anyone or anything that could teach me what I was seeking. Being told, “That’s the way it is”, and “You have to have blind faith,” didn’t sit right with me. Some might label me a bad person for that, but I see myself as someone who desires such a strong faith that it becomes unshakeable.

As an adult, I embarked on a journey to regain my faith and learn as much as possible. I picked up books, took classes, and surrounded myself with both the faithful and the unfaithful to understand every perspective.

Reading “When Bible Meets History” brought so much into perspective. Faith isn’t an idea from a distant fairytale. The figures of Jesus, Moses, and the prophets in the Bible were real, and historical data supports their existence.

This book was enlightening and poignant, and I am very thankful for winning it in a Goodreads giveaway. It has become a reference I will cherish for years to come.

Steven Lee Crane’s book is not just a one-time read; it’s a lifelong treasure that reveals hidden truths with each revisit. It’s a book to share with your children and future generations.

Thank you, Steven, for researching, writing, and sharing this invaluable work. It is well-written, thoroughly researched, and exceptionally well-rounded.

Beautifully Broken

Have you heard the song, God Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flats? It’s pure gold, absolutely beautiful, and speaks to many people. I’ve listened to that song many times in my life. I’ve cried tears to that song, and I’ve also had a few beers listening to it.

I’m not going to sit here and say that life has been easy, hunky dory, or peachy keen. Life has been hard, sometimes grand, and other times downright a hot mess.

One thing that I’ve always been blessed with is God’s love. I’m not someone you look at and think she’s a faithful person. I don’t exude religion, faith, or all-around righteousness. I’m me; I flip the F-Bomb at times. I don’t walk a certain way, wear the right clothes, and often stick to myself.

The thing is, what is a faithful person? What is a religious person? If you can answer that question, I will question your ideals. So many times, we think we have faith and God figured out. We think we have to put on our Sunday best and act a certain way for God to love us. Society tells us that we have to do this or that when all we have to do is accept God into our lives and never give up trying.

This book and Pastor Kim reminded me of that and helped me return to God when I needed him the most. The world and the scars I received from my choices opened a door for me to choose to walk away from God’s grace. I chose to believe that I had to make my own way, live life on my own, and figure it all out without any help.

I sat alone for nine months in an apartment and found my faith again. I found what was missing in my life, and while I’ll never claim to be perfect or know it all, I won’t let it go again because of the ugliness in the world that tries to tell me I’m not enough.

Beautifully Broken Book Review

Beautifully Broken by Kimberly Jones-Pothier

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Pastor Kim brings a very Raw story to life, giving readers insight into her healing.

Through her deliverance, you will see the healing process. Reading this story allows readers to understand that through your broken period, you learn your true strength and that God will never give up on you.

Everyone deserves forgiveness along with love. This book is a great read for anyone going through a troubled time or anyone who has been through one.

No one is getting out of this world without a scratch, ding, or getting in the mud at one point. We have to understand that life was never meant to be easy. It was meant to be lived. The realness Pastor Kim brings to her story and ministry opens our minds to God’s love and lets us all know we are not alone.

Dark Rise

I happened upon Kim Richardson by chance a few years ago, and boy, am I glad I did because I haven’t been disappointed yet. I started with this series, and I’m moving on to a new series of hers soon. If you’re looking for a series to get lost in, this one and her others will blow your mind.

Since I was young, like a 15-year-old girl, I have loved fantasy, vampires, werewolves, and demon-type books and movies. Not necessarily the supernatural things that go bump in the night and scare you, but the ones where there is a hero or heroine who fights them. It’s more of a kick-ass badass thing, and some of them are your friends. Vampire Diaries, Buffy, Angel, and that type of thing are not horror movies.

Anywho, I have devoured these types of shows and books like there is no tomorrow, but although there are a plethora of these books, there isn’t a lot that can keep my attention, and there aren’t enough that are long series. Insert Kim Richardson and Bazinga; it’s a whole new type of series.

I don’t want to give too much away, but boy, did she do a doozie on me, and I didn’t want the series to be over. I could definitely see this being a television show that could last for a while. This reminded me of Lost Girl, which ended way too soon, if you ask me. I don’t know who is not watching these shows enough for them to stay around, but I’m going to need my fantasy lovers to find these shows before they get canceled because I need good shows to watch because the re-runs, while good, are getting old and I need a new show to binge LOL.

I can’t get enough

If you read a Kim Richardson book, you don’t want to leave the world she creates.

I love this series. Robyn is in a league, and her band of misfits are conquering Hell. I love how the Author brings the story and world alive on the pages. I sit up in bed, so I can’t fall asleep to get a few more pages in!

How do you tell people you’ve fallen in love with fictional characters and don’t have time to talk to them because you’re too engrossed in a book to bother with their conversations? LOL, that’s how I have to explain this series.

The storyline is original, and the world is wholly conceptualized. The characters are developed in a way that you feel like you’ve known their story for years but not that you’ve met them in another book like some.

The originality makes you want to see what else Kim has up her sleeves. You come back for more, and I can’t wait for the next book to come out if you’re reading a series that isn’t complete yet.

Don’t wait too long, folks, because once you’re, you’re hooked.

Broken Bayou

As we grow up, we all have those moments when we look back and wonder, ‘Why did I do that?’ Can you recall your own moment? You’re not alone in this.

I can think of mine, but I’m not divulging it here, LOL. We would need way too much vodka (which I don’t drink anymore) and a terrible day for me to want to tell that story.

The thing is, we are all living with skeletons in our closets of some sort, but what if that skeleton came back and tried to ruin your life? What a kick in the hay, aye?

Life is supposed to be lived in the moment, a hotbed of activity that catapults us to our destiny, but some people don’t get that. Some people have a messed-up childhood that kicks them every single day.

It’s up to us to decide the outcome. We can either stay where we are, making excuses, or we can take control and create our own path to success.

We are all given a choice; you have to make it for yourself and be the main character in your own story. While the story isn’t solely about triumph, there’s an underlining of it here, and I adore the resilience and strength of the main character for it.

Remember, we’re not always going to have a good day. But what you do on those bad days is what truly defines your path. It’s not the mistake you made that one time at band camp, but in this story, it’s that one mistake that comes rearing its ugly head, and this character didn’t let it define her entire life.

Broken Bayou Review

Broken Bayou by Jennifer Moorhead

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Let me just say I had no idea. This one threw me for a complete loop, and I was left with my mouth completely open.

It was a travesty that the ending was wrapped up this way, but it made it much more believable and realistic. The author ensured you weren’t left with a cliffhanger or scratching your head. You weren’t made to feel like you were cut off from mid-show.

I felt the character’s angst, the town’s gossipy nature, and each tiny detail down to my bones. The author had a way of sucking you into the storyline and grabbing you with the pieces that made you think you had it figured out.

The author brought parts of Louisiana into the story, and as a person who has only been there once, I felt like I had been transported back there. This made the story more realistic. I like the unexpected impact. It caught me off guard and left me utterly speechless.

I found myself deeply invested in unraveling the mystery while hoping for love to triumph.

I do not often empathize with characters I initially disliked, but the book prompted me to reevaluate my biases.

Was I reading a book or watching a movie? No, I was trying to figure out who the real culprit was, all while hoping for love in all places.

Geez, Louise, Jennifer, could you have left me with breath in my lungs?

Anyway, I don’t usually feel bad for the people I hated so much at the beginning of a book, but in the end, I felt horrible for stereotyping people. This book also made me think about how I think.

Bravo, on so many levels.

The Situation Room

The Situation Room: The Inside Story on Presidents in Crisis by George Stephanopoulos

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Since I opened this book, Mr. Lopez has come in and asked me, “What’s the Situation?” I can’t put it down. It’s fascinating, hilarious in parts, devastating in others, and eye-opening throughout. The things you learn about your nation, its leaders, and the moments that shaped history are incredible!

The Situation Room taught me more about our government during national crises than many other sources. It sparked my interest in learning about issues that impact our daily lives. Having watched George on Good Morning America for years, I had no idea how deeply intertwined his work has been with significant events. I’m now quite intrigued to continue learning and will be diving deeper into the heart of American politics, history, and the minds of great Americans like George Stephanopoulos.

An Ancient Yuletide Saga

An Ancient Yuletide Saga by Philip Gegan

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Philip has once again gifted us with a remarkable tale in “An Ancient Yuletide Saga: Christmas Folklore Fantasy in Rhyme.” His talent for storytelling is nothing short of enchanting. When I refer to these as “stories,” it’s not to downplay their significance as books but to say how quickly and completely one becomes immersed in the narrative.

One of the standout features of this book is Philip’s skillful use of rhyme. The poetic aspect adds a melodic quality to the prose and allows the story to flow smoothly, effortlessly drawing readers into its intricate details. It’s a true testament to his literary craftsmanship.

What sets Philip’s work apart is his ability to transport readers into the heart of folklore surrounding various holidays. In this particular book, he delves into the enchanting realm of Christmas, inviting us to explore its ancient origins and rich traditions. It’s a refreshing departure from the commercialized versions of the holiday we encounter so often.

The characters in this Yuletide saga come to life with vividness and depth. Philip’s storytelling prowess shines through as he weaves them seamlessly into the tapestry of Christmas folklore. As you read, you’ll find yourself deeply connected to the essence of the holiday and the captivating stories that have shaped it over time.

In a world where consumerism often overshadows holidays, Philip’s books are a welcome respite. They encourage us to rediscover these special occasions’ true meaning and stories, fostering a greater appreciation for their cultural and historical significance.

Philip, once again, you’ve outdone yourself. “An Ancient Yuletide Saga: Christmas Folklore Fantasy in Rhyme” is a delightful and educational journey that captivates readers from start to finish. Your ability to blend fantasy and folklore with such finesse is commendable. I eagerly anticipate your future literary endeavors. Bravo!

Book Reviews Matter, Why Sharing Your Love Matters

The Power of Positive Book Reviews: Book Reviews Matter, Why Sharing Your Love Matters

Book reviews are a powerful tool that can significantly impact authors and readers. Positive reviews can encourage and motivate authors to keep writing, while negative reviews can discourage authors and even harm their careers.

The authors Porch Blog Interview

In this blog post, we will explore the significance of book reviews and their impact on authors and readers. We will discuss the benefits of leaving positive reviews, the consequences of harsh public criticism, and the importance of constructive criticism. We will also provide guidance on writing positive and constructive reviews and offer tips on choosing your words wisely when providing feedback. Preview the main points of your blog post: the importance of positive reviews and when to keep harsh criticisms private. Remember, Book Reviews Matter

The Benefits of Leaving Positive Book Reviews

Encourage authors and motivate them to keep writing. When an author receives a positive review, it’s akin to a child who has just been handed their first lollipop. They savor it, read it repeatedly, eagerly share it with friends, and revel in the feeling that their words have finally found meaning. Remember, authors have toiled away for months, years, and sometimes even decades, meticulously selecting the right words to convey the thoughts that have kept them awake at night. They yearn to unveil the intricacies of their minds, and when those revelations resonate exactly as they had envisioned with their readers, it’s nothing short of magical.Help readers discover hidden gems.Readers may not glean certain details about a book solely from the description on a sales page, but through your review, they can be drawn in and discover aspects that resonate with them even more. Your reviews not only assist readers in finding new authors and exploring new literary realms, but, in the case of non-fiction books, they may also offer the much-needed guidance someone has been seeking in their life. Your reviews hold more significance than you might imagine.Create a more positive and supportive literary community. The literary community is one of the most supportive communities in the world, and your insights and reviews play a crucial role in maintaining that support. Your reviews inspire authors to continue crafting those limitless worlds in a world where anything is possible. So, keep up the great work, keep encouraging, and never cease to believe in the people who dare to dream the impossible. Like Sapphire Blue by Marission Billions Book Review

The Consequences of Harsh Public Criticisms

Everyone starts somewhere. I remember my first book—the horrible grammar mistakes, the pictures I drew that looked like a kindergartener’s homework. But it was my inaugural piece of work, and I felt immense pride in publishing a book at the age of 40. Just think about it—what if someone had left the reviews that some believe I should have received? I might have stopped writing and never reached my full potential. While honesty is a valuable aspect of reviews, rudeness is not. There’s a way to provide constructive criticism in private, which helps individuals grow rather than crushing their dreams. Reviews can serve as a tool to guide authors toward improvement, allowing them to evolve and reach the caliber of literary giants like Stephen King and Nora Roberts, who once shared the same dream as the rest of us.Always remember that every word, whether spoken or typed on a screen, carries weight and impact. K.D. Miller Book Review

Where to leave Reviews

Online Retailers:Amazon: One of the largest online marketplaces where readers can leave book reviews, and most authors want it on Amazon because over 80% of the readers go here to find their books.Barnes & NobleGoodreads: A social media platform for readers where you can rate and review books. This is the largest online reader platform currently owned by Amazon.Book Depository: Provides an option for readers to leave reviews.Book Review Websites:Many websites specialize in book reviews, often allowing readers to submit their own reviews and ratings.BookBubAuthor’s Website or Blog:Some authors have their own websites or blogs where they encourage readers to leave reviews and provide feedback.Library Websites:Some library websites offer the option to leave reviews if you borrow books from a library.Social Media Platforms:Readers can share their thoughts and reviews on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.Book Clubs:Some book clubs, whether online or in-person, provide spaces for members to share their reviews and discuss books.Online Forums and Discussion Boards:Websites like Reddit have specific book-related subreddits where readers can post reviews and engage in discussions.Publisher Websites:Publishers often feature books on their websites and may allow readers to leave reviews or provide feedback.Audio and E-book Platforms:If you listen to audiobooks or read e-books, platforms like Audible and Kindle provide options for leaving reviews.Local Bookstores:Some physical bookstores offer the opportunity to leave handwritten reviews in-store.

Regardless of where you are, the next step should be leaving a review each time you turn past that last page. If you can’t do one publicly, send a note privately to the author and let them know how the book left you feeling. Always remember that on the other end of that message is a human being with feelings, and they have poured their heart and soul into that book. Be kind, rewind, and have faith that each time an author picks up their pin and quil, pad of paper or keyboard, they always have the readers’ minds on their hearts.

Like Sapphire Blue

Like Sapphire Blue by Marisa Billions

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Have you ever found yourself inexplicably drawn to a character, celebrating their triumphs, yet grappling with a nagging moral unease? “Like Sapphire Blue” by Marissa Billions is a literary roller coaster that evokes precisely this complex emotional journey.

From the very beginning, I was captivated by the protagonist’s relentless determination to defy the odds stacked against her. She didn’t passively accept life’s challenges; she confronted them head-on, unyielding in her resolve. The narrative was replete with unexpected twists and turns, leaving me on the edge of my seat, eagerly embracing each shocking revelation.

Marissa Billions possesses a remarkable gift for crafting both words and characters that ensnare your heart. Even when her characters engage in morally questionable actions, you find yourself inexplicably rooting for them. As I closed the final pages, I was left pondering my own ethics, still unsure of my stance on the enigmatic conclusion. Ultimately, I’ve come to accept that I simultaneously agree and disagree with myself, a testament to the book’s thought-provoking power.

Few authors have the ability to make a story linger in your thoughts long after you’ve turned the last page, forging a connection between the reader and the characters as if they were cherished friends. Marissa Billions is one of those rare talents, and I wholeheartedly recommend delving into her books. However, I must offer a word of caution: “Like Sapphire Blue” merely hints at the emotional whirlwind awaiting you within its pages; it’s a title that doesn’t even scratch the surface of the profound impact this novel will have on your emotions.
