Quests (The Guardians of the Forest Book 2)

Gwen and Mark bravely face known and unknown threats on a mission to find their sister Lucy and plead for help for all in their village. They learn a lot along the way and meet people who sometimes help and sometimes hinder their progress. They keep going and so must the reader. Cheryl Burman's series is set in a fantasy world every age can relate to. I love the element of surprise that she conjures up. Glad I could purchase and read all of these without waiting. As soon as I finished one I started the next

Gryphon Magic (The Guardians of the Forest, #3)

The final book in this trilogy continues the twisting turning journey. This story has been an entertaining one that I didn't want to put down. Each angle has been carefully thought out. Each character so well drawn I could see them. The world that Cheryl Burman created came to life as if she drew it for me. Loved it.

2021 Still Together: Another Anthology of Shorts

This is a varied anthology with 49 poets, writers and photographers expressing their thoughts each in their own style. As each contribution is short, (from 3 lines up to 3 pages) it is something you can pick up and put down whenever you have a minute. I read it cover to cover but also dipped in and read some of the poems randomly. Full disclosure I have 3 poems and a longer piece in here but I assure you I am in excellent company.

Diary of a Dizzy Peri: Poems and thoughts on midlife, menopause and mental health.

Karen Honnor has written the only poetry book I have read in the way I would read fiction. I couldn't put it down. It is rare for me to find a poet that I can really relate to. I don't have a favourite famous poet. The indie poets I have read seem more inclined to speak my language. Karen certainly does. This is the best poetry book I have read. Honest, relatable and I suspect something I will turn to again.

Finding my Way

There was a lot for me to relate to in this book. I took my time to read it because it made me think. The brave honesty of the author touched me and made me reflect a little. There is a danger in life that we live on automatic pilot, sometimes we need to stop, look around and see where we go from here. Karen Honnor has taken big steps which from my perspective are paying off. This book will connect with a lot of people who will sit and nod just like me. Bravo Karen.

We Should All Be Feminists

A short informative book which examines the lack of gender equality in the world. We have come a long way but there is so much further to go. The population is 52% female but looking at all the people in power that is hard to believe. I didn't realise how bad the global situation is, glad I read this book.

Keepers

I love Cheryl Burman's writing. She brings characters to life and makes you care about them. I don't do historical fiction but this is actually women's fiction at its best. Raine's life in 1950's Australia is so well described my own lack of knowledge was no hindrance to me. I was kept guessing till the end. I loved every bit of this book. Read whatever you can by this versatile author. You won't regret it.

It’s complicated

We are given an identity - a name, a sex, a gender, before we can speak. If we don't fit those boxes, our boxes do not exist.Unable to belong, we compromise,we let others dictate.Society catches up, makes new boxes,we feel fit us better. We accept ourselves, knowing we are not alone.Scared of rejection,we shy away, from revealing who we are.

Poetic Choreography

My words fall onto the page, knowing their place better than I.They form their groups, shifting into position,to suit each situation.Adaptable, flexible, ready, willing to be used.Expectation of earning their keepunderstood, accepted.Taking rejection well, knowing opportunities arise. The right fit comes with patience.Their reward the attention they receive.Copyright © 2021 Lily Lawson
