08/23/2020 Snippet, MORGAN BAROD revision.
Gratuitous river monster!

The clump of Red Bankers nearest him all headed to the nearest river-facing wall, taking care to keep a few feet away from the edge overlooking the Navesink. As they took position, a few ran to boxes set at regular intervals and opened them, revealing broad-bladed chopping axes. Those without an ax of their own quickly reached for one, although enough townsmen kept their swords to make Morgan decide it was safe to keep his.
There they waited. The scene was tense, and as quiet as it could be when every bell on the wall was seemingly now ringing. It struck Morgan: whatever was going on here, it would hardly be a surprise to the Red Bankers.
And he would rather it not be a surprise to him, too. Carefully, as to not startle anyone now nervously carrying an ax, he said, “So, hey: this wasn’t in the tourist brochure?”
That actually got a laugh! So the situation isn’t grim, just not great and maybe a little horrible, thought Morgan. One woman (vampire, based on the full-body covering) even replied. “Somebody suggested that as a slogan! ‘Visit Red Bank! The neversinkers await you!’ But the Council said no.”
“That’s a shame,” said Morgan. He paused. “What’s a neversinker?”
Ahead of them, two long arms boiled out of the water to grab the top of the wall. The arms bunched and thickened as they dragged up a vaguely potato-shaped body, with flipper-like legs — and a nightmare of teeth and whiskers, attached to a serpentine neck.
“That,” said the vampire.
The Goodreads Giveaway is 10% completed!

As you might recall, I am doing a giveaway drive. If I get ten (now nine!) more physical book sales from Backerkit, I will give away five physical books on Goodreads. Exciting, yes? Link for the Backerkit store here. $10 and $30 tiers only, alas.
Also: consider signing up for my mailing list for future updates! We’ve got things coming up this fall and winter, so it’s even reasonable!
Patreon microfiction: Verdict of History (2020).
I had folks… disagree with me about ‘Verdict of History (2020).’ Which was honestly the idea. Sometimes you need to challenge your readers, you know?

The Reassuring THE BATMAN trailer.
You know annoying it can be when they make superhero films grim, dark, and edgy? Yeah, well, that doesn’t apply to Batman movies. As somebody pointed out somewhere: this project has a THE CROW vibe to it.
…I AM ABSOLUTELY DOWN FOR VIOLENT GOTH BATMAN. I didn’t think that was an option! And, hey: since you’re raiding my to-do list anyway, maybe we could get a THE DOOM THAT CAME TO GOTHAM animated miniseries? Because tell me you wouldn’t watch that. Go on. Tell me*.

PS: Villains are Riddler and Catwoman, and the first at least looks like he’d give the Joker a run for his money when it comes up to doing messed-up [expletive deleted] thematic villainy.
*Damn. I was hoping that there was a TDTCTG animated series planned, and I just missed it. But no joy.

‘Bang on the Drum All Day.’
I took the dang day off. I’ve been pushing out about 1600 words a day for the last few weeks, I could afford the bye day, and now I’m going to go get some sleep. Which last will shock the heck out of my wife, too.
Book of the Week: A Deadly Education.
A Deadly Education: Lesson One of the Scholomance is Naomi Novik’s latest novel, it comes out in a month, and I have it pre-ordered. Like you do. Well, like I do. I have high hopes for it, too. Again, like I do.
The GOTHAM KNIGHTS video game trailer.
Well. [expletive deleted].
Comes out in 2021, dunno if GOTHAM KNIGHTS gonna be exclusive for next-gen consoles. My oldest kid approves.
The WONDER WOMAN 1984 trailer.
Some actual clues as to what the heck is going to happen in WONDER WOMAN 1984, so: huzzah! And spoilers. And no Commies being punched onscreen, which is a shame. Still, I am down.

Not thrilled about the Audible delay for FROZEN DREAMS, either.
From what I can tell, apparently everybody in the world decided to record an audiobook this year, and they don’t have the staff to process everybody’s entry in less than 30 business days. Technically, it’s only been 17 business days for me, but I have to start assuming that the FROZEN DREAMS audiobook will not be ready on September 1st. There’s no deadline, strictly speaking, but I’d like it off my to-do list*.
Alas. At least it’s paid for. And you can still get the regular book, of course.

*I’d also like whatever royalties accrue from it, too. Purchases this month will directly impact the November Kickstarter for the short story collection.
The final TENET trailer.
I really, really want to see TENET in theaters. Not entirely up to me, though. We’ll see…
