Not the best day (but with updates).

Various forms of crap going on; and that’s just the way it goes, sometimes. I decided to just do TINSEL RAIN additions because everything else felt slightly oppressive and I’m a little ahead of schedule for the monthly story for Patreon. Just as long as I don’t turn a couple of days off into two weeks, I should be fine.

Although, I should note: the three Tobias Marsh/Asenath stories (one has yet to be written) will be the new sampler for next year’s Kickstarter! I know how the third one is going to go, and it’ll make for a good triptych, so that’s sorted out. Tentative date for the Kickstarter to begin will be one week before Farpoint, so that I can advertise it at the convention itself. My wife suggested it, because she’s smart like that.

More icemold!

“Crap,” I said as I straightened up, quickly. “Stay back!” And then I stuck one arm out to stop Teresa from crowding in. I didn’t have to even look. Adventurers are kinda predictable that way.

They’re predictable about not liking it when you keep them back, either. “I’m all grown-up, Shamus,” Teresa told me. “I can dodge, and everything.”

“Can you dodge icemold?” I asked her. “Because some of its insides are smeared with the stuff.”

“On the other hand,” Teresa said without missing a beat, “the best way to survive a poison dart trap is to be somewhere else when it goes off. Why the hell is icemold in that thing?” That last bit was a little muffled, thanks to the towel now wrapped around her mouth and nose. I have to admit, Adventurers are creative in finding uses for those things.

The ‘Surprisingly Interesting’ First Five Minutes of MOONFALL.

Okay. So this isn’t horrible.

I still expect MOONFALL to be flat-out absurd, but they get points for having the astronaut correct for spin, and generally thinking at least a little about orbital mechanics. A very little. You have to grade Hollywood on a curve.

PS: By the way? NASA doesn’t have orbiters anymore, Hollywood. I mean, sure, Elon Musk’s going as fast as he can — but he wants rocketships, not shuttles. Just saying.

Back to normal tomorrow.

Had a nice lightning visit with my mom and sisters, but all the driving wipes you out. Although that might have been the beer; my home town has an extremely good brewpub now. Not to mention half a dozen excellent restaurants in walking range. I should put some of them in the MORGAN BAROD sequel.

Patreon Microfiction: ‘Personal Thaumaturgical Choice.’

100WS-Personal Thaumaturgical ChoiceDownload

Yeah, that particular method in ‘Personal Thaumaturgical Choice’ does sound kind of awful. The kind of awful that ensures that the mages who use it don’t ever seem to successfully surrender. Real fight-to-the-death types, those.

Tweet of the Day, There Are Crazy-Faced Goats edition.

Say what you like about how many Thors there are on that poster: the goats are pretty cool.

“A warning would have been nice, Randy,” I groused as I settled myself in a chair. “Like, telling my just how many hooks Howie had in Tourista. Even if you brought it up in passing.”

This time Randy wasn’t offering me a drink. But he wasn’t snarling or anything, either. “What would you have done if I had? Said, ‘Never mind,’ then knock off for the day? I don’t think so.”

I snorted. “Not a chance in Hell. I’d have knocked, all right, and a lot harder. But I’d have started off with banging on the right doors.”

“Yeah, well, maybe some people didn’t want you popping in for a visit quite so quick.”

“That thought crossed my mind, too.” I glared at him. “And why wouldn’t they want a visit from a Shamus? What was the big worry?”

“Who you asking there, Tom?”

“Well, let’s see. The judge won’t know, because nobody would tell you anything official. And the Stone won’t say, because ‘screw you, gumshoe.’ So I guess I’m asking Randy. Looks like he’s the only one in your head that I can talk to about this.”

Have a good weekend!

If the post just now wasn’t obvious enough, here ya go: I’m taking most of today and tomorrow off. Christmas stuff, and I don’t feel bad about it all. Everybody: have a good weekend.
