NaNoWriMo, Day 10: 510 / 28,870.

I need to reset. Or sleep more. Or both.

The remains of the planetary traffic system had issues with haulers skimming just above the tree-tops at several hundred miles per hour. Can’t imagine why! Their mothers must have been scared by space-cheetahs, or something. But that was all right; most of the path from here to the Delilik Autonomous Agronomic Facility was currently blessedly free of traffic laws. Those stretches that weren’t were stable enough that I could reduce speed in time to avoid grounding. It’d take finesse, but when I’m behind the control stick I have that and to spare. Getting a look-see at Adam’s main patrol route would just be a matter of flying straight, and making sure the cameras were properly recording this time.

Although a proper look-see would have involved me walking the path. That wasn’t going to happen, though. It’d take too long and I didn’t know a damned thing about hiking through the woods.

The Hackers Honest Trailer.

Warning! Do not watch this Honest Trailer if you are susceptible to Nostalgia Cringe. Yes, my children: HACKERS is what we once thought the computer world would be like. Forgive us: we had no idea how it would all go down.

NaNoWriMo 2021, Day 9: 1,520 / 28,360

Another day where I had to power through.

“Absolutely not,” Greg told me, bright and early next morning.

I had gone to him before Maki because I knew she’d say no, and could I even blame her? Once you get the space-happy in the cryofreezer, the idea is to keep him there. If he’s in there, he can’t get out. But I figured if we had enough people with rifles around, it’d be safe enough. And since Greg was in charge of what weapons we had on the planet’s surface, I’d have to get him to agree with my scheme.

Only he wasn’t agreeing. “I’m not going to ask Maki to thaw Adam out, Pam. I mean, you can hear how stupid that idea is when I say it aloud, right?”

“It’s the only way to check the eyes, Greg. We don’t have any footage of them when he went after me, or when he woke up; and the pre-freeze checklist doesn’t include looking at eye colors. One look, and we’ll know.”

Greg shrugged. “And then what?”

“What do you mean?”

“Let’s say you’re right. His eyes have changed colors. So what?”

Tweet of the Day, …KOTOR? edition.

That would be @zamoose‘s hope. And mine. A KOTOR movie would just make logical sense. So would a sequel video game too, of course.

This Zhao/Feige Star Wars announcement was (one) of the things I was teasing a while back… most of the details are still under wraps, but Zhao & Feige’s film (written by LOKI’s Michael Waldron) will be set before any other film in the Star Wars universe… https://t.co/erMXUaidQn

NaNoWriMo, Day 8: 1,710 / 26,840.

DST is kicking my butt, here. 1700 words was just barely sustainable.

I cornered the creature in the alleyway, and swore. I had been hoping it was just a cat. Nope, not with my luck! I had flushed out a dog. A damned dog.

You don’t bring pets to the Tomb Worlds. Or at least this one. There are a lot of places where cats can settle in, and a lot of different places where dogs can, but something in the atmosphere of One-Eighteen did things to any Earth life larger than — well, every animal that wasn’t human, honestly. Mostly, what it did was kill those species off, but dogs and cats are stubborn buggers.

Even then, they mostly avoided humans — it was like every scrap of domestication had been burned off of them — but this creature looked hungry enough to forget about who the apex predator was. I didn’t like its looks in general, too: it was about the size of a golden retriever back home, but its hair was a mangy patch of gray and greenish fur, a mouth full of loose and slightly oozing teeth, and eyes that mixed hurt, confusion, and disgust in equal proportion. Dogs and cats really don’t like living on One-Eighteen, and I think the few feral ones here dimly blame humans for bringing them here.

And I was pretty sure that the dog wanted to take its frustrations literally out of my hide.

The Final Yes I Will Shut Up About GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE Now trailer.

At least, until I can actually see it.

PS: Please, God, let somebody at the studio have had the thought You know, Maurice LaMarche is available for voice work. Any other voice for, say, the Ghost of Egon* would be a travesty and an insult. But he’d be a good choice. Obviously.

*Look at that child. LOOK AT HER. Tell me that she is not from the Spengler family tree.

Almost there on the Skin Horse Calendar Kickstarter!

98% funded!

I rather want this calendar, you understand. Also, Shaenon’s a good egg. Plus, it’s so tantalizingly close. To quote SM Stirling: pick a reason. Any of them would do.

Behold the Unicorn.

A genuinely funny SNL skit. I know, I know – I’m as amazed as you are. Infinite choices in infinite universes, amirite?
